- DirectorPetr VáclavStarsStefan FerkoMilan CifraRadek HolubHis Czech was poor. On arrival he was silent, inhibited, insular. Later he gradually adapted, and made some contact. Unfamiliar with basic concepts, he does not even know how to listen to a fairy tale or recognize colors. He lacks basic hygiene habits. Sometimes very affectionate. At other times truculent. He lacks self control and is impulsive. He is usually alone and behaves aggressively towards the other children. These bouts are often followed by great shows of overbearing affection and pampering, to the point of discomfort. He does not understand the rules to games. But nonetheless interferes and spoils them for the others. He demands attention and when he does not get it he imposes himself and clamors in an undisciplined manner. He is too familiar. He has an apathetic look which is at the same time sly. On June 11th he insisted on telling his story. He tried to finish it even though he did not have permission to speak. Repeated admonished. He continued to speak. To finish his story. He grabbed hold of adults and forced them to listen. He raised his voice. When he is severely reprimanded he responds with foul language. He refuses to accept punishment. He is uncooperative and arrogant. An outsider. A gypsy.

- StarsVáclav NeuzilIvan TrojanMartha IssováStepán (Václav Neuzil) got a job as a second night receptionist in a three star Hotel Meteor on the periphery of Prague. He'd like to get along with the colleagues and not attract the attention of his superiors. But how is he supposed to do that, when he desperately falls in love with Pavlínka (Martha Issová), who works as a day receptionist? The see each other only in the moment when the shifts change! On top of that, Pavlínka is not interested in Stepán but in the aggressive hotel maintenance man David (David Novotný). He is in turn interested in two things only: how has his beloved Sparta played and how to avoid the exhausting erotic interest of his superior, the ambitious hotel manager Tereza (Lenka Krobotová). Tereza does her best to improve the quality of the hotel and get the long-wished-for fourth star. This concern clashes with the selfishness, indolence, laziness, acquisitiveness and cunning of the subordinates. Of all the hotel employees, the fourth star is of the least interest to her ex-husband Theodor (Martin Mysicka), the director of the hotel. His only interest is to perfect his skills in playing the Chinese game of mahjong. Tereza's efforts are being thwarted by the personal interests of other subordinates, too: the ambitious and treacherous cook Smutný (Jaroslav Plesl) craves the position of the chef, the melancholic chef Tichý (Miroslav Krobot) struggles with losing his taste as a result of work accident, the day receptionist Frantisek (Ivan Trojan) deals with the underworld and consorts with the dangerous criminal Major ('Pavel Simcik'), the hotel prostitute Libuska (Klára Melísková) trains a junior lacrosse team, the hotel taxi driver Jindra (Marek Taclík) is a gay with a strong maternal instinct and Jirina the barmaid (Simona Babcáková) has a deficit. In the course of series' season we watch in suspense whether the hotel manages - despite the clash of the employees' personal interests - to get the fourth star in the end, and the more refined and solvent clientèle with it. And is something like that even in the interest of the mysterious Chinese hotel owner?
- DirectorViktor TausStarsDidier FlamandOldrich KaiserJirí LábusAt the beginning of their careers Oskar, Max and Viktor created a superstar clown trio called The Busters. Their clownery personified little islands of freedom in the midst of a motionless swamp of resignation during the communist regime of the former Czechoslovakia. An explosive disagreement, however, led to the three clowns breaking up. As it turns out, the clowns, beloved by the nation, can't stand each other. Now, after thirty years in exile, Oskar (Didier Flamand) returns to end his artistic career in Prague. The meeting with his former friends leads to an unavoidable confrontation with now morbidly obese Viktor (Jirí Lábus) and terminally ill Max (Oldrich Kaiser). Even after all this time the question remains the same: who will have the last laugh?
- DirectorJitka RudolfováStarsJana PlodkováMartin MysickaJaroslav PleslThe film's main theme is obsession. An obsession with love, with art, originality, copying, with success, money and... with oneself. Sooner or later, if we lose our rational upper hand over it and let ourselves be dragged down by it, every obsession leads to destruction. But it is only when being dragged down, in spite of all the cuts and bruises, that we find a unique DELIGHT, if only for a few short moments - and what else is life really about? It is like a drug. What at first seems to be weak and trivial is capable of expanding and growing into a serious problem that can appear to be absolutely incomprehensible and absurd to those who have never experienced anything like it.

The time's stopped and life's been stuck in a shape resembling the era of Soviet Union. Somehow, people got used to the reign of the secret police and the fear of being spied on. - DirectorJan HrebejkStarsJirí CernýStefan ChovanecMartin FingerThe screenplay (Der Müll, die Stadt und der Tod) by Rainer Werner Fassbinder inspired a theatre production by Dusan David Parízek. The screenplay and the production in turn inspired the film ODPAD MESTO SMRT (Waste, City, and Death) by Jan Hrebejk. Romi (Gabriela Mícová), a prostitute, is anything but successful at her job: she is of far too gentle a nature for her clients. The more obstinately she is pushed to the streets by her pimp Franz (Stanislav Majer), the closer she is to a complete breakdown. One day Romi is addressed by a property speculator referring to himself as a "wealthy Jew" (Martin Finger). He does not demand any sexual services of her. He satisfies himself with Romi telling him stories, for which he lavishly rewards her. However, no one shares the sudden happiness with Romi. Her work-mates and current clients turn their backs on her, as does Franz, with whom Romi is in love. The whole story takes place in the setting of a dilapidated city, during the clean-up of which politicians openly split their profit with speculators and lobbyists, all under protection from the police.

- DirectorSilvie DymákováStarsSilvie DymákováRoman VanekOndrej VetchýSilvie Dymáková's raw documentary uncovers the manipulation, humiliation and pressure that exist behind the closed doors of "product demonstration excursions for seniors" in the Czech Republic. The sad heroes of her film show us the non-functional saucepans, unused vacuum cleaners, "wool" blankets and bio-lamps they bought during such excursions for tens or even hundreds of thousands of crowns... and that is the best-case scenario. In exchange for their ID cards, confiscated by sellers, many have signed loan contracts. Despite their shocking experiences, the elderly repeatedly take part in these events in a bid to escape their loneliness or because they can't say no to the offers. Dymáková succeeded in smuggling a hidden camera into product presentations and, with a psychologist and a lawyer, analyzed the high-pressure methods employed. Even while being completed, her documentary sparked a deserved uproar when it became clear that dozens of Czech firms were abusing seniors' inexperience, credulity and certain dependencies.
