69 titles
- DirectorRuben FleischerStarsSean PennRyan GoslingEmma StoneIt's 1949 Los Angeles, the city is run by gangsters and a malicious mobster, Mickey Cohen. Determined to end the corruption, John O'Mara assembles a team of cops, ready to take down the ruthless leader and restore peace to the city.
- DirectorMichael TiddesStarsMarlon WayansEssence AtkinsMarlene ForteMalcolm and Kisha move into their dream home, then learn that a demon also resides there. When Kisha becomes possessed, Malcolm--determined to keep his sex life on track--turns to a priest, a psychic, and a ghostbusting team for help.
- DirectorKim Jee-woonStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerForest WhitakerJohnny KnoxvilleThe leader of a drug cartel busts out of a courthouse and speeds to the Mexican border, where the only thing in his path is a sheriff and his inexperienced staff.
- DirectorAllen HughesStarsMark WahlbergRussell CroweCatherine Zeta-JonesIn a city rife with injustice, ex-cop Billy Taggart seeks redemption and revenge after being double-crossed by its most powerful figure: Mayor Nicholas Hostetler.
- DirectorTommy WirkolaStarsJeremy RennerGemma ArtertonPeter StormareBrother/sister duo Hansel and Gretel are professional witch-hunters who help innocent villagers. One day they stumble upon a case that could hold the key to their past.Initially wrote this off, but man, it is one fun movie. Yes it lacks accents, true representation of the firepower of the day, but it is a thrill ride. Think of Hansel and Gretel meets the Winchester Bros. of Supernatural. 7 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorElizabeth BanksSteven BrillSteve CarrStarsEmma StoneStephen MerchantRichard GereA series of interconnected short films follows a washed-up producer as he pitches insane story lines featuring some of the biggest stars in Hollywood.
- DirectorAndy MuschiettiStarsJessica ChastainNikolaj Coster-WaldauMegan CharpentierAfter a young couple take in their two nieces, they suspect that a supernatural spirit named Mama has latched onto their family. Was very anxious to see this. All in all, a fair amount of creepy and scares. Would have liked a little more of the creepy younger sister. Instead we got way too much mama, in my opinion. The insinuation of mama was much creepier than the actual rendering. Still, a fun enough scare movie that has beat all of the January releases. 7 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorJonathan LevineStarsNicholas HoultTeresa PalmerJohn MalkovichAfter a highly unusual zombie saves a still-living girl from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion events that might transform the entire lifeless world.Another zombie film, though, it has a twist; the walking dead are coming back to life. Plus, we get narration from the dead. It could be said that the zombie genre has been played to death, this film proves there is still new ground to be culled. Terrific performances make this a very enjoyable film. 8 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorWalter HillStarsSylvester StalloneJason MomoaChristian SlaterAfter watching their respective partners die, a New Orleans hitman and a Washington, D.C. detective form an alliance in order to bring down their common enemy.
- DirectorSeth GordonStarsJason BatemanMelissa McCarthyJohn ChoMild mannered businessman Sandy Patterson travels from Denver to Florida to confront the deceptively harmless looking woman who has been living it up after stealing Sandy's identity. Not as funny as I thought it would be, but, it is worth a rental. Takes a bit of a serious turn in the 3rd act. 6 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorJohn MooreStarsBruce WillisJai CourtneySebastian KochJohn McClane travels to Russia to help out his seemingly wayward son, Jack, only to discover that Jack is a CIA operative working undercover, causing the father and son to team up against underworld forces. It is OK, you can see the years on Willis even more now. The franchise returned to an R-rated presentation due to internet fan-boy crying. The result was the least attended film in the franchise and the least enjoyable. Get back to McClain in a confined space, these road movies are not what endeared the character in the first place. 6 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorRichard LaGraveneseStarsAlice EnglertViola DavisEmma ThompsonEthan Wate longs to escape his small southern town. He meets a mysterious new girl, Lena Duchannes. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history, and their town.It feels a lot like Twilight in presentation. It is fun seeing UK thesp's Irons and Thompson hamming it up. I enjoyed the leads, but all in all, way too Twilight-like which keeps it from being distinguishable from the crowded YA ranks. 6 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorLasse HallströmStarsJulianne HoughJosh DuhamelCobie SmuldersA young woman with a mysterious past lands in Southport, North Carolina where her bond with a widower forces her to confront the dark secret that haunts her.I have to say, this film turned out a lot better than I thought going into it. It is the usual Sparks story, this time with a bit of a change up. The heart strings and tears are manipulated as only Sparks stories can. But it has something other Sparks stories have; intrigue. A 7 out of 10 star surprise.
- DirectorRic Roman WaughStarsDwayne JohnsonSusan SarandonJon BernthalA father goes undercover for the DEA in order to free his son, who was imprisoned after being set up in a drug deal.
- DirectorChris WedgeStarsAmanda SeyfriedJosh HutchersonBeyoncéA teenager finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle between the forces of good and evil is taking place. She bands together with a ragtag group of characters to save their world--and ours.A solid story and performances. Perfect for all genders of little ones as there is plenty of action and girl heroics to keep everyone entertained. 7 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorPark Chan-wookStarsMia WasikowskaNicole KidmanMatthew GoodeAfter India's father dies, her Uncle Charlie, who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her unstable mother. She comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives and becomes increasingly infatuated with him.
- DirectorJon LucasScott MooreStarsMiles TellerJustin ChonJonathan KeltzThe night before his big medical school interview, a promising student celebrates his 21st birthday with his two best friends.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsNicholas HoultStanley TucciEwan McGregorThe ancient war between humans and a race of giants is reignited when Jack, a young farmhand fighting for a kingdom and the love of a princess, opens a gateway between the two worlds.A fun, family movie. This didn't get much love at the theaters, but could find some life in the home disk arena. Fun for the whole family. 7 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsJames FrancoMichelle WilliamsRachel WeiszA small-time magician is swept away to an enchanted land and is forced into a power struggle between three witches.Admittedly, my anticipation for this fell when RDJ dropped out, but this is a really fun romp for all ages. Has a lot of the whimsy of the original, sans the musical numbers. Saw this 2D, would love to see it 3D. It gets a solid 7 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorDon ScardinoStarsSteve CarellLuke VanekSteve BuscemiA veteran Vegas magician tries to revive his career after his longtime partner quits, he gets fired from his casino act, and an edgy new "street magician" steals his thunder.
- DirectorJon M. ChuStarsDwayne JohnsonChanning TatumAdrianne PalickiThe G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. Most of the sins of the first movie are righted here. GI Joe is back to being an American force, not some multi-national mixing pot unit. The strength enhancing suits are gone, instead, it is men and women using the latest weaponry and guts to defeat the enemy. Just all in all a vast improvement over the first movie. 7 out of 10 stars
- DirectorAndrew NiccolStarsSaoirse RonanMax IronsJake AbelWhen an unseen enemy threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories, Melanie Stryder risks everything to protect the people she cares about.Interesting premise, but a very bland movie. There is much to explore here, but the romantic triangle takes up way too much of the movie. So you are left with lots of exposition quickly brushed, though the pace never picks up. 6 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorPaul FeigStarsSandra BullockMichael McDonaldMelissa McCarthyAn uptight FBI Special Agent is paired with a foul-mouthed Boston cop to take down a ruthless drug lord.
- DirectorAntoine FuquaStarsGerard ButlerAaron EckhartMorgan FreemanSecret Service agent Mike Banning finds himself trapped inside the White House in the wake of a terrorist attack and works with national security to rescue the President from his kidnappers. This is what the latest Die Hard movie should have been. Butler returns with a major bang to the action genre (please stay here a while). There hasn't been a man against the forces of evil movie this good since the original Die Hard. All kinds of crazy action and straight up "yeah!!" moment. 7 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorFede AlvarezStarsJane LevyShiloh FernandezJessica LucasFive friends head to a remote cabin, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead leads them to unwittingly summon up demons living in the nearby woods.Way too predictable, way too many body fluids, way too much gore all leave you with way too little real scares. An absolutely by-the-numbers story that telegraphs everything that will happen 10 miles out. 4 out of 10 stars.
