Films I can't stand that many other people think are great
Here is a list I wanted to make for quite a while. There are certain films that everyone seems to say are "great", and they win awards, but I think they are junk. Of course this won't list the obviously bad films (e.g. Showgirls), or garbage by worthless hacks such as Sandra Bullock and Adam Sandler. I know I'm not alone, so here they are:

- DirectorPaul HaggisStarsDon CheadleSandra BullockThandiwe NewtonLos Angeles citizens with vastly separate lives collide in interweaving stories of race, loss and redemption. This won best picture, though I didn't see any redeeming quality to it at all. Total trash.
- DirectorSam MendesStarsKevin SpaceyAnnette BeningThora BirchA sexually frustrated suburban father has a mid-life crisis after becoming infatuated with his daughter's best friend.Another best picture winner I can't stand. Yes, a great actor is the star, but really a mediocre script.
- DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsTom HanksRobin WrightGary SiniseThe history of the United States from the 1950s to the '70s unfolds from the perspective of an Alabama man with an IQ of 75, who yearns to be reunited with his childhood sweetheart.I'm not a fan of Tom Hanks, but I never quite got the reason this film is so good. Maybe I'm as dumb as the character!
- DirectorJames CameronStarsLeonardo DiCaprioKate WinsletBilly ZaneA seventeen-year-old aristocrat falls in love with a kind but poor artist aboard the luxurious, ill-fated R.M.S. Titanic.I believe this is the top grossing film in history. I considered it a tragedy that a film this big could be so poorly done. The script was pure garbage and the acting was a well.
- DirectorStephen DaldryStarsMeryl StreepNicole KidmanJulianne MooreThe story of how the novel "Mrs. Dalloway" affects three generations of women, all of whom, in one way or another, have had to deal with suicide in their lives.Meryl Streep is probably the greatest actress in history ever to make a whole bunch of bad films.
- DirectorPaul Thomas AndersonStarsDaniel Day-LewisPaul DanoCiarán HindsA story of family, religion, hatred, oil and madness, focusing on a turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business.Total waste of time and boring.
- DirectorJim AbrahamsDavid ZuckerJerry ZuckerStarsRobert HaysJulie HagertyLeslie NielsenAfter the crew becomes sick with food poisoning, a neurotic ex-fighter pilot must safely land a commercial airplane full of passengers. This film is really little more than cheap laughs. Not sure why it became so successful. On the other hand the film it was parodying, Airport, was a classic.
- DirectorJohn MaddenStarsGwyneth PaltrowJoseph FiennesGeoffrey RushThe world's greatest ever playwright, William Shakespeare, is young, out of ideas and short of cash, but meets his ideal woman and is inspired to write one of his most famous plays.Put it this way: there was someone named Shakespeare and he did write a play called Romeo and Juliet, but other than that this mediocre train wreck was complete fiction and fails as satire as well.
- DirectorOliver StoneStarsKevin CostnerGary OldmanJack LemmonNew Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison discovers there's more to the Kennedy assassination than the official story.Just because I'm sure Oswald acted alone is NOT the reason this one is on the list. Because when I first saw it I was a CTer and didn't particularly like it. Though it has a ton a great actors, the script is not just fictional (read false), but mediocre.
- DirectorJames L. BrooksStarsJack NicholsonHelen HuntGreg KinnearA single mother and waitress, a misanthropic author, and a gay artist form an unlikely friendship after the artist is assaulted in a robbery.God this film was bad. Again it had only one thing going for it, Jack Nicholson. However he plays a cartoon character and I could never stand Helen Hunt. This script was not mediocre; it was poor!
- DirectorRon HowardStarsTom HanksBill PaxtonKevin BaconNASA must devise a strategy to return Apollo 13 to Earth safely after the spacecraft undergoes massive internal damage putting the lives of the three astronauts on board in jeopardy. To schmaltzy with too many family scenes with lines like "mommy you're squishing me". Too bad, because this was an important event, but better to just watch the documentary of it.
- DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsBruce WillisHaley Joel OsmentToni ColletteMalcolm Crowe, a child psychologist, starts treating a young boy, Cole, who encounters dead people and convinces him to help them. In turn, Cole helps Malcolm reconcile with his estranged wife.I REALLY hated this one! This kid is so annoying and the script was poor.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsJesse EisenbergAndrew GarfieldJustin TimberlakeAs Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg creates the social networking site that would become known as Facebook, he is sued by the twins who claimed he stole their idea and by the co-founder who was later squeezed out of the business.
- DirectorMartin BrestStarsBrad PittAnthony HopkinsClaire ForlaniDeath, who takes the form of a young man killed in an accident, asks a media mogul to act as his guide to teach him about life on Earth and, in the process, he falls in love with the mogul's daughter.
