A mother personally challenges the local authorities to solve her daughter's murder when they fail to catch the culprit.
    DirectorMartin McDonaghStarsFrances McDormandWoody HarrelsonSam Rockwell
This is defiantly my favorite movie of 2017 for and I can't really see any other film taking my top spot. Dark humor is what Martin McDonagh nails in his past two movies but here he adds a certain element that it is so different that his past movies. It helps that his actors especially two main standouts of Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell, who from the beginning of the movie we understand that he is not only a horrible cop but also a terrible human being. However both actors and even characters have moments where they are vulnerable but also near the end it is that sheer rage and angry that have in common that brings them together and give more to a brilliant screenplay than just a regular ending that gives you answers that can not be solved with the amount of time. Because I am glad with the ending we got. This movies leaves you with the intention of being on the two main characters side. So if the movie would have continue then it would veer into unreal ism. We have seen Martin McDonagh gone dark before really dark before but that is not his intention for this film. To show that these are real people and we all have flaws that is why this screenplay is so perfect and his directing is spot on with the switch in tones with scenes that are a real gut punch. I love this movie. Also Caleb Landry Jones is fantastic in all his scenes but one scene will be so heart breaking to watch it is incredible what two actors can convey in such a short amount of time. Of course Woody Harrelson is amazing who's story line goes int a place where Martin has touched on in his past movies which I find fascinating that Woody was able to do all this in less that a quarter of screen time. This movie is incredible.

A young girl risks everything to prevent a powerful, multinational company from kidnapping her best friend - a fascinating beast named Okja.
DirectorBong Joon HoStarsTilda SwintonPaul DanoAhn Seo-hyun
My next two movies in my top ten are from Netflix and I would understand the argument that these are not "films" in the same scope as watching a movie in a theater. However Okja from its premise is not like any other movie out there right now. It is a definite shame that most individuals are blinded by the idea that this is not a real film because it premiered on a streaming service. And that is ridiculous to believe that people will put this movie off for that reason. This is Joon-ho Bong follow up film to the brilliant and equally important Snowpiercer, who he has a very incredible filmography before these two films, and from an original screenplay from him and Jon Ronson, who wrote the equally out there film Frank, created this strange and beautiful world where there is this creation of big pig like creature where this young girl cares for and looks after. That is where it make you feel compassion towards this movie is Seo-Hyun Ahn who plays the lead character, Mija, who is the caretaker of Okja. And the evil coorpartion lead by the trans formative Tilda Swinton is amazing in every frame. That is at the center of this film and how brilliant this film switches to crazy insane what am i watching type of film making to this is a film about now and where we are going as a society and how we can be reflected on screen. This movie is brilliant and from performances from everyone is spot on fantastic. Jake Gyllenhaal is unforgettable as his audition to play the Joker, to Steven Yeun who had a great year has many scenes where he steals the show, Paul Dano who has command and order that you buy him as a leader, to even Lily Collins who is absolutely ruthless and the rest of the team and visual effects are incredible and one not to be missed.

To me the best superhero/comic book movies are the ones that dare to be different. Especially now with how advance and how much care can be put into these movies. And it also doesn't hurt to have some bad a$$ action scenes. Hugh Jackman has really never been better, Patrick Stewart is absolutely phenomenal, James Mangold adds so perfectly what he has done with female characters and characters he has done in the past and apply them here, and every production design inside and out are an incredible feat that possibly can never be touch.

No one could image that a movie this sophisticated and thought provoking could come out at a time like this. I mean to a lot of people this is reality both in fear and out of not being aware the way they are acting. My exact point is at the get together where Rose is showing off Chris that whole scene is crucial in having such a bleak and frank portray of what a situation like that looks like. And anyone would believe that scene exists in real life. Other than that it is just a great horror film which I appreciate much more than a well I mean I love both aspects that it brings up both racial issues at the same time of fiction and nonfiction fans of this genre.
