- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsAmy AdamsJeremy RennerForest WhitakerA linguist works with the military to communicate with alien lifeforms after twelve mysterious spacecraft appear around the world.Beautifully shot but not as beautiful and effective as its ending. Not kidding though, the ending and sum of all of its parts add up to something extremely powerful and effective with a great message. May not be everyone's cup of tea though. 10/10

- DirectorJeremy SaulnierStarsAnton YelchinImogen PootsAlia ShawkatA punk rock band is forced to fight for survival after witnessing a murder at a neo-Nazi skinhead bar.Now something completely different. Extremely tense brutal film. Violence in most films doesn't hit you much but this movie has some very rare and effective use of violence. Also holds up incredibly well under re watches with surprising replay value, even if it isn't my favorite of the year it's definitely the most memorable so far. 9.5/10
- DirectorPark Chan-wookStarsKim Min-heeHa Jung-wooCho Jin-woongA woman is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress, but secretly she is involved in a plot to defraud her. Some of the best storytelling I've ever seen in a movie. Truly terrific 9.5/10
- DirectorTom FordStarsAmy AdamsJake GyllenhaalMichael ShannonA wealthy art gallery owner is haunted by her ex-husband's novel, a violent thriller she interprets as a symbolic revenge tale.Masterfully told in unconventional ways with some of the best performances of the year. - DirectorShane BlackStarsRussell CroweRyan GoslingAngourie RiceIn 1970s Los Angeles, a mismatched pair of private eyes investigate a missing girl and the mysterious death of a porn star.Hilarious really surprised how much I liked it, however, after 2 re watches after initial viewing I didn't enjoy t as much as the first time, there are no real flaws but it just isn't as laugh out loud funny when you see the jokes coming. Still a good movie 9/10
- DirectorTim MillerStarsRyan ReynoldsMorena BaccarinT.J. MillerA wisecracking mercenary gets experimented on and becomes immortal yet hideously scarred, and sets out to track down the man who ruined his looks.Fast paced and nonstop hilarious humor and should please fans of the original source material. Not exactly a quality film but an absolute blast 9/10.

- DirectorJohn CarneyStarsFerdia Walsh-PeeloAidan GillenMaria Doyle KennedyA young lad notices a beautiful girl who begins to occupy his thoughts. While struggling with poverty, personal relationships and life's woes, he starts a band, hoping to catch her attention. Not only is it very nostalgic to the 80s and makes excellent use of the time its also a profound coming of age story that with the right people who can make some relation to it it can really hit home, like with me. 9/10
- DirectorTaika WaititiStarsSam NeillJulian DennisonRima Te WiataA national manhunt is ordered for a rebellious kid and his foster uncle who go missing in the wild New Zealand bush.Funny and heartwarming story with a unique style and well executed.9/10

- DirectorAntonio CamposStarsRebecca HallMichael C. HallTracy LettsThe story of Christine Chubbuck, a 1970s TV reporter struggling with depression and professional frustrations as she tries to advance her career. The character study of Christine Chubbuck the news reporter who shot herself on live television. The movie offers an interesting and distressin look into the events leading up. Rebecca Hall gives not only one of
the best performances of the year but the best in her career. Slow and depressing but insightful and interesting. 8.5/10 - DirectorJohn Lee HancockStarsMichael KeatonNick OffermanJohn Carroll LynchThe story of Ray Kroc, a salesman who turned two brothers' innovative fast food eatery, McDonald's, into the biggest restaurant business in the world, with a combination of ambition, persistence, and ruthlessness.Excellent film on business as well as a really interesting history behind Mcdonalds. - DirectorJeff NicholsStarsMichael ShannonJoel EdgertonKirsten DunstA father and son go on the run, pursued by the government and a cult drawn to the child's special powers.Jeff Nichols delivers another fine film. - DirectorPaul VerhoevenStarsIsabelle HuppertLaurent LafitteAnne ConsignyA successful businesswoman gets caught up in a game of cat and mouse as she tracks down the unknown man who raped her.Isabelle Huppert gives an incredible performance in this disturbing and crazy character study. It does drag as you feel every second of its 2 hour runtime and then some, but none of it feels wasted. Far from any conventional thrillers that come to mind but that's one of the many interesting things about Elle. 8.5/10
- DirectorYeon Sang-hoStarsGong YooJung Yu-miMa Dong-seokWhile a zombie virus breaks out in South Korea, passengers struggle to survive on the train from Seoul to Busan. It's got heart and soul and action and tension that will raise your stress levels to the roof. Train to busan is easily one of the best zombie movies of the past decade. 8.5/10
- DirectorYorgos LanthimosStarsColin FarrellRachel WeiszJessica BardenIn a dystopian near future, according to the laws of The City, single people are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in 45 days or they're transformed into beasts and sent off into The Woods.Definitely one of a kind. It's really bizarre and humorous with a unique portrayal of pressures in society with relationships. There were times where it was a bit too strange even for me (really says something). Nevertheless 8.5/10
- DirectorPeter BergStarsMark WahlbergKurt RussellDouglas M. GriffinA dramatization of the disaster in April 2010, when the offshore drilling rig called the Deepwater Horizon exploded, resulting in the worst oil spill in American history. An important story detailing the events that led to the biggest oil spill in u.s history. It's very interesting and pays good tribute to those whose lives were effected. 8.5/10
- DirectorMike MillsStarsAnnette BeningElle FanningGreta GerwigThe story of a teenage boy, his mother, and two other women who help raise him among the love and freedom of Southern California of 1979.Very smart written coming of age movie with lots of interesting ideas to share. 8.5/10
- DirectorMel GibsonStarsAndrew GarfieldSam WorthingtonLuke BraceyWorld War II American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, serving during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people and becomes the first man in American history to receive the Medal of Honor without firing a shot.A war story that I can't believe I haven't heard until now. Great performance from Garfield and even though it touches on cheesy melodrama from time to time the story doesn't fail to effect. 8.5/10
