- DirectorHarvey JonesStarsDavid AttenboroughPiers GibbonLiving in the depths of the New Guinean Rainforest are birds of unimaginable colour and beauty. When Europeans first saw the plumes of these fabulous creatures in the sixteenth century, they believed they must be from heaven and called them the Birds of Paradise. The men of New Guinea make even greater claims. They say the birds possess supernatural powers and magic. But to find these Birds of Paradise in New Guinea is one of the very toughest assignments, and to witness their extraordinary mating displays is even tougher. These rare moments happen only briefly, unpredictably, in tiny patches of thick forest at dawn. To SEE them requires immense patience and luck. David Attenborough has been entranced by these birds since he was a boy, and introduces the latest expedition to try their luck at finding and filming 10 birds of paradise. The team is led by Miriam Supuma, a young New Guinean ecologist, and Paul Igag, a highly talented ornithologist, and the programme follows them as they search for the birds - the holy grail of wildlife filmmakers - in the heart of the New Guinean rainforest. From the Crater Highlands to Spirit Mountain, a moving journey unfolds. To attract a mate, some male Birds of Paradise, like the King bird, perform like acrobats. Others, including the Parotia, have highly complex dance moves. The Superb Bird of Paradise displays a bizarre shield apparently with eyes, while the Prince Rudolf's Blue Bird makes a hypnotic, pulsating sound like no other creature on earth. But above all, they give us a glimpse of what happens when there are no limits to beauty.

Why we can see in color but have a lousy sense of smell? Your Inner Fish delves deep into the past to answer questions like these. The three-part series reveals a startling truth: Hidden within the human body is a story of life on Earth. Based on a best-selling book by evolutionary biologist Neil Shubin, this scientific adventure story takes viewers from Ethiopia to the Arctic Circle on a hunt for the many ways that our animal ancestors shaped our anatomical destiny. Shubin has spent much of his life studying our ancient ancestors----searching for the deep pedigree of Homo sapiens. Using both the fossil record and DNA evidence, he traces various parts of our body's structure to creatures that lived long, long ago.
- StarsAlice RobertsBrian RichmondSvante PääboWe have uncovered the secrets of the atom, travelled to the moon, and dominated planet Earth. But how did humans come to be so successful? This three-part series reveals the powerful anatomical changes that have given us - and our ancestors - the edge over all other life on Earth. From the way we walk, to the shape of our jaw and even the way our thumbs move, we are connected intimately to the struggles and triumphs of our ancestors. However, many of these changes have come at a surprising cost, and the problems we face now are a direct consequence of our evolutionary journey. As much about our bodies today as about our bodies 6 million years ago, Origins of Us will change the way you see yourself.
