Kudoh Yuki is an accomplished Japanese singer, former teen idol and actress whose resume includes more than half a dozen records, starring roles in Japanese, Japan-Iran and Japan-Canada films, stage and anime productions. She was only seventeen when she was working overseas, in the USA, filming a movie called Mystery Train, a film she has cited as her favourite role. Born on January 17th, 1971, Kudoh won acclaim as early as 1984 as the Best Newcomer at the sixth Yokohama Film Festival for her first feature length appearance, which was for the film The Crazy Family. Kudoh has spoken both about feminism and breaking free from Japan's male-dominated culture and simultaneously pleaded in favour of distinct Japanese values and aesthetics in film and culture.工藤夕貴- Uchida Yuki was born in Tokyo. She attended Fujimura Women's High School and fenced as an activity. Like most Japanese female celebrities she has modelled, acted, sang and represented companies in commercials and advertisements. She began working at age sixteen in 1991 and subsequently skipped finishing school. She began acting in serials and did modelling emphasizing a masculine look with short hair. She would later grow her hair slightly. She had a radio show as well, which lasted until shortly after the turn of the century. Her first single, Tenca Wo Torou!, which also acted as a theme for a serial called Hanjyoku Tamago in which she participated landed at position one in the Japanese charts. However she returned in 2006 following her 2005 divorce and became active on television again. Mizuno Miki was the mainstay actress in the Odoru Daisosasen TV serials and movies, but was not cast again in 2010. Shizuoka City native Hirose Suzu was born four years following her model and actress sister, Alice Hirose. Her real name is Ooishi Suzuka, but she chose her alias to synchronize with her older sister. She played basketball at high school. She was scouted when her mother and she attended an event for Seventeen magazine for which her sister modelled. She was a model for Japan's Seventeen magazine beginning 2012. She was in an advertisement for wedding planning at age sixteen in 2014 and was rumoured to have been caught going to a love hotel with a Johnny's Junior member at age seventeen the next year. The report was denied. She began her on-screen career in 2013, but it was her role in 2015's Umimachi Diary (a.k.a. 'Our Little Sister') next to Haruka Ayase that got her noticed. The film, which was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival, was nominated for multiple awards in Japan. Hirose won the Newcomer Of The Year award at the Japan Academy Awards. She was in another film by Kore-eda Hirokazu two years later, namely The Third Murder, which was also showcased at TIFF in Canada. She has been doing commercials since 2013 and even appearing in videos. She has done multiple commercials including one for a beverage called Match, which also featured her sister. She soon became the most prolific corporate advertiser in Japan. She caused controversy when she belittled film and sound technicians on a variety show. Naturally, she swiftly backtracked, which made her look unsteadfast. A reported survey reported that she was the most unpopular celebrity among twenty-something females in Japan. This survey's results, however, were never officially published. She denied reports of being in a relationship with Ryo Narita. She graduated from high school in 2017 and announced she would pursue her career and not attend college. Also in 2017, she released the obligatory CD release which comes with all Japanese actresses. This one was a cover of Ruriiro No Chikyu by Seiko Matsuda. During a radio broadcast she mentioned that her mother is quirky sometimes and told her children that their mother is a worm. When her mother objected via a message on the mobile Suzu posted the image of the message online. Her older brother Ooishi Koya was arrested for drunk driving and an accident in January of 2018. Kimiko Elizabeth Glenn was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ, where she grew up with her sister Amanda, and parents Mark and Sumiko. She started doing theater when she was ten years old at Valley Youth Theatre and there, began developing her love for performing.
Halfway through her freshman year of college at the Boston Conservatory, she was cast in the 1st National Tour of Spring Awakening. After touring for two years, she finally settled her life in New York.
Since then, she starred as the title role in La Jolla Playhouse's "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots", directed by Des McAnuff; and played the bratty Princess Ssu-Ming in the Playhouse's production of "The Nightingale", directed by Moisés Kaufman. She was honored to perform at the Delacorte Theater for Shakespeare in the Park, in The Public's "Love's Labour's Lost", directed by Alex Timbers. She had a blast originating the role of Emily in the Off-Broadway production of Julianne Moore's Freckleface Strawberry and is proud of the many exciting projects she has been a part of. Favorites include: Behind the Painting written by Maltby & Shire; Plop, written by Bare's Damon Intrabartolo; Yeast Nation from the creators of Urintetown at the NY Fringe festival '11; Crossing Over as part of the National Asian Artists' Project; and the staged reading of Cheer Wars -- her very first New York job.
Kimiko has also appeared in feature films Construction (2021); Nous York (2012); and Hair Brained (2013) starring Brendan Fraser & Parker Posey; and the movie-musical short, Galaxy Comics, by director Kevin McMullin. You may have seen her in the 2011 Disney/ABC Diversity Showcase directed by Ted Sluberski and Joe Ward. Kumamoto City-born Shimada Yoko is best known in the west as Mariko from the 1980 mini-series Shogun. The lady-in-waiting role created an interest in Japan and its culture overseas and introduced Japanese history to foreign audiences. She won the Golden Globe For Best Performance by an Actress in a TV-Series - Drama category and was nominated for a Prime-time Emmy Award for her work on the serial in 1981. Shimada, who spoke some English for the serial, had been acting for years prior to Shogun however. She began learning ballet since age three and wanted to become a ballerina until her high high school days. Her family had moved to Tokyo when she was eight. She obtained an agent and began acting while in junior high school. The TV serial Zoku Hyouten made her famous beginning 1970. She released a nude photo book, called Kir Royal, in 1992. She was 39 and the photo book became a bestseller shifting half a million copies. At 57 she starred in an 'AV' pornography video called Mikkai in 2011. Born Fujima Takako in Tokyo in 1977, she found herself in a family of actors and actresses including her kabuki artist father, uncle and brother, a sister who would act in movies and would eventually marry a man from the entertainment industry. Her mother Norika is a businesswoman. Her niece is a kabuki actress. Her sister's husband is also an actor. She appeared on the theatre stage at age sixteen and an NHK serial called Kura at seventeen. She hosted the annual New Year's Eve NHK show Koohaku Uta Gassen at nineteen. She debuted her single Ashita, Haru Ga Kitara on the same program the year after. She became a full-fledged singer from thereon releasing regular albums and going on tour for her soft pop music. She began acting with an appearance in NTV TV's "The Files of the Young Kindaichi 3 (2001)" starring Jun Matsumoto in 2001, the short film Justice in 2002, the feature-length Jam Films of 2002 and finally Amemasu No Kawa in 2004. One-time volleyball player, model, television personality and actress the Shimane-born Esumi Makiko retired at age 50 in 2017 citing a desire to concentrate on her family in general and children in particular, but magazines reported that the decision came amidst news of an extramarital affair and estrangement from her second husband from whom she was living apart. She denied the allegations and described her companion as a business associate. Reports also had it that she was negotiating a restitution on a bad deal from the businessman. She was no stranger to controversy however. She was once associated to a manager caught vandalizing a celebrity's house and also accused of not paying into her own public pension before the turn of the century while being the advertising face for the plan. She has been in TV serials and movies without pause ever since and came to most people's attention through NHK's series Asuka serial of 1999. She was recognized by the Japanese Academy Awards for 2003's Yomigaeri, which explored resurrection. Takeuchi married Shido Nakamura in 2005 and obtained a divorce three years later. The two had co-starred in 2004's Ima, Ai Ni Yukimasu. She also won the Nikkan Sports Film Award for Best Actress for Saido Ka Ni Inu of 2007. She joined other celebrities when in 2011 she released a cook book called Takeuchi Marchais, Presenting 102 Delicious Warm-Hearted Recipes. She was found dead at her Tokyo home on 26.09.2020. This was a mere nine months after giving birth to her second child. Cause of death was suspected as suicide. She is represented by Stardust promotion.

Born Hiramaru Kumiko in Chiba Prefecture's Sanbu-gun (now separated into Sanmushi and rural Sanbu-gun), which is next door to Narita, Japan on the 17th of June 1978, Kumiko Aso began her film career with 1995's Bad Guy Beach despite a lack of interest in acting at the time. It was 1998's Dr. Akagi, which introduced her to a wide audience in Japan. She garnered Japan Academy Prize for Best Supporting Actress for this film. Ironically, her manager had sent her to this movie's auditions and Kumiko would claim later she was not even sure what she was auditioning for. Either way, this film would not be the last, which would accord her an award. She had initially aimed to become a pop star and had sent an application for an audition. She participated in a Japanese schoolgirl audition for the Young Jump weekly magazine, which she won in 1995. She has become a well-known actress, model and product representative in her native country. Aso has also starred in a couple of Kiyoshi Kurosawa films, had a cameo in the cult film Tenten and became a stalker in Moteki, by which time she had cut her hair for an older look. Earlier she had expanded her horizons and played a leading role as an Iranian-Japanese in the 2007 Iranian film Hafez. She had contemplated quitting acting in 2006, but persisted in the profession because she enjoyed her time in Jiko Keisatsu TV serial. She married stylist Daisuke Iga in late 2007 after dating for four years and gave birth to their daughter in 2012. She gave birth to a boy in 2016. She cites reading manga as a hobby. Aya Brea is a Parasite Eve video game character. She had another Godzilla role in 2003, but has been more active in television serials since. She was also the subject of some hilarity when she announced to her fans that while trying to buy an iPhone she had accidentally brought an iPod home. The Tokyo born Mizuki Arisa is both an actress and J-pop singer who has done modelling as well as represented corporations in commercials and advertising for their products. Her parents set up a company to support her career, but ended up quarreling and in court. She began her acting career in 1983 at the age of seven and her singing endeavours eight years later in 1991. She began modelling as a child at the age of four. 1991 was the year when she broke through both with the release of her Arisa album and winning the Japan Academy Award for Best Newcomer for Cho Shojo Reiko. She also contributed vocals to a song, Kaze Mo Sora Too Kitto ('Wind Too, Sky Too, Maybe'), for the Sailor Moon anime. Her mother was arrested on drug charges in 2000. Her father was arrested on gambling charges in 2008. She was nominated for Best Actress for her appearance in Bokunchi in 2003. She often starred in and sang songs for the same TV serials. She was associated with successful producer and later fraudster Komuro Tetsuya. Mizuki earned a spot in the Guinness Book Of World Records in 2010 as an actress who has starred in television serials for nineteen consecutive years. This record was extended to thirty by 2017. She married construction company president Koji Aoyama in 2015. Mizuki's lineage is Japanese-American. Fukuoka born Sakai Noriko initiated her career at age 15 in 1986. Her first single was called Otoko No Ko Ni Naritai ('I Want To Be A Boy') and was issued in February of 1987. Her music was classified as J-pop. She used the Nori-P (later also the name of a character she illustrated and marketed) alias at this time and for the next ten years. In the '90s she enjoyed much success not only as a singer, but also contributing to soundtracks for films and serials in which she also acted. She had been popular outside Japan since 1990. Her appearance in 1993's Hitotsu Yane No Shita serial, which was about orphan siblings, helped her become famous. She maintained the popularity for 1995's Hoshi No Kinka and also sold a million records as she also contributed a single to the soundtrack. She eventually became in-demand in China and South East Asia thanks to her concerts, tours and advertising work. She also began her own business in 1996. She toured most of East and Southeast Asia in 1998 and capped the year off by announcing her marriage to Yuichi Takaso, a pro surfer. She gave birth in the year 1999. She had a comeback following her maternity period in the year 2000. Sadly, her long-time manager committed suicide in his office in that year. She continued acting for the big and the small screen until her arrest on drug charges in 2009. Her husband was arrested on August 2, 2009 and implicated his wife in the ordeal. Under the guise of picking up her ten-year old son she delayed her arrival at the police station, but alongside her son disappeared that day. She dropped off her son with a friend and disappeared, but turned herself in two days later. Her hair would test positive for amphetamines. She received a three-year suspended sentence eventually having posted bail earlier. She was accompanied by a vice-president for Sun Music upon release, but would later be dropped by the agency. Moreover, her clothing line PP Rikorino was removed from stores and commercial sponsors and employers dropped her. Ironically, her music sales saw an uptick. She and her husband divorced in 2010. Sakai did charity work and advertised the hazards of drugs in 2011 and announced a comeback in 2012. She has been making personal appearances at places like pachinko parlours, hand shake events and picking up minor TV roles since. Born in Tokyo Kikuchi Momoko was discovered in the city in 1982 and began working first on television and then as a singer in the following years. Her aunt ran a retail food business in Aoyama, Tokyo and had a photo of her by the register. A music company employee noticed the photograph and inquired about the girl. Her father accepted her foray into the entertainment business, but insisted on her maintaining her studies. She was said to be interested in such a career to actually meet celebrities she idolized. She had actually dreamt of becoming an archaeologist. Her first role was in the serial A Hole In The Knickers in 1983. She was in the movie of the same name the year after. She played a student. That year her photo was the number one selling among all the Idols. She released her first J-pop single at the age of fifteen and had seven number one consecutive hits on the Japanese charts. These were her fourth to tenth singles. She had given a concert at Budokan in Tokyo in 1985. She was, at the time, the youngest headliner at the venue and had more in attendance than the Beatles. She won the Rookie Of The Year Award at the Japan Record Awards. She attempted to diversify into rock music as a member of a band called RAMU late in that decade, but with that attempt producing rocky results she shifted her focus on her acting career. Kikuchi married professional golfer Nishikawa Tetsu in 1995 (was engaged in 1994) and gave birth to a boy in 1996 and a girl in 2001. Her daughter is paralysed on her left side due to a cerebral infarction in her brain. Earlier a child was stillborn. She had gone into hiatus, but returned in 2007. It was announced that she is divorced in 2012. She also announced she has Sjoergen Syndrome in the same year. Iijima Ai was born in Koto Ward, Tokyo. Her birth name was Matsue Ookubo, but she would later also use Ai Candy and Mitsuko Ishii as stage names. She had a troubled childhood, according to her autobiography, where she hated her parents so much that she ran away from her home and lives on the streets. She lost her grandfather at a young age and despite doing well at elementary school could not pass to enter high school from junior high. She made a living as a hostess at night clubs, engaging in compensated dating and working at a karaoke bar. She began her adult video acting in 2002 and in one year became Japan's top porn star. She concurrently made the transition to TV by appearing on TV Tokyo's Gilgamesh Night, which was an erotic early morning show. She released a music single called Naisho De Ai Ai bizarrely involving uncoordinated children dancing, an up-skirt shot, soldiers in uniform and her with a tank and obtained a regular spot on a TV talk show. She also appeared in the mainstream movie Purupuru Tenshi Teki Kyujitsu as an angel in 1993. Her 2000 novel Platonic Sex was a bestseller in Japan selling over a million copies. She would incorporate many autobiographical details in it. Fuji TV made a four-hour mini-serial and Toho a movie based on the book. Both were toned down. She was a regular on TV on a show called KinSuma (SNAP band's Friday program). By now she had become an AIDS activist, something which is rare in Japan, and had worked with the United Nations and the Japanese government among others. By 2006 she was in ill health and had taken time off from appearing in variety shows. There was a report that her talent agency, or employee thereof, had ripped off the equivalent of a million dollars from her and she was in emotional and physical pain. These lead to her retirement from television with the announcement coming on TBS' Sunday Japan. She was 34. She had suffered from kidney and urinary tract infection. She was found dead in hey Shibuya, Tokyo apartment in on December 24th, 2008. The autopsy report assessed that she had been dead for a week. She was 36 when police reported cause of death as pneumonia. Others suspected and reported suicide or aids-related illness. There is not much that makes Kashiwazaki famous, except the worrying presence of a nuclear power plant, but the city has Mihiro Tangicuhi a.k.a. simply Mihiro. Onodera Kumiko was born in Fujinomiya. She moved to Tokushima Prefecture, as her father was a chemistry teacher and also had to consider his health, and subsequently to Iwaki in the northern prefecture of Fukushima as a child and remained until graduation. Her father was from Hokkaido in northern Japan, but moved after contracting tuberculosis. Her mother was a nurse, which is how her parents met. Kumiko has a younger sister. She entered the acting profession at age eighteen. During her third year at high school a radio show announced a search for an actress for a movie called Tabi No Omasa ('Journey Into Solitude'). She auditioned without informing her parents. She came in second, but was accepted for the film and obtained the role of a girl who commits suicide. Her first work was in the Shochiku Studio movie Journey Into Solitude of 1972. Here she used her birth name for credits. She was happy with her approximately $800 salary. She nonetheless determined to attend university and was not bent on becoming an actress. Failing her university entrance examination changed things. She relocated to Tokyo. She appeared in a candy commercial. She was in a movie in 1973 and then changed her name and adopted an alias. As early as 1974 she won the Newcomer prize at the 11th Golden Arrow Award. 1974's Aka Chôchin made her famous. Aniimoto (1976) garnered her the award for Best Actress at Mainichi. She, or films in which she has appeared, have won awards regularly since. An international award came when Deep River won Montreal Film Festival Award in Canada in 1995.
