Joss Whedon is the middle of five brothers - his younger brothers are Jed Whedon and Zack Whedon. Both his father, Tom Whedon and his grandfather, John Whedon were successful television writers. Joss' mother, Lee Stearns, was a history teacher and she also wrote novels as Lee Whedon. Whedon was raised in New York and was educated at Riverdale Country School, where his mother also taught. He also attended Winchester College in England for two years, before graduating with a film degree from Wesleyan University.
After relocating to Los Angeles, Whedon landed his first TV writing job on "Roseanne", and moved on to script a season of "Parenthood". He then developed a film script which went on to become Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992). Whedon was very unhappy with the final film - his original script was extensively re-written and made lighter in tone. After this he earned screenwriting credits on such high profile productions as Alien: Resurrection (1997) and Toy Story (1995), for which he was Oscar nominated. He also worked as a 'script doctor' on various features, notably Speed (1994).
In 1997, Whedon had the opportunity to resurrect his character Buffy in a television series on The WB Network. This time, as showrunner and executive producer, he retained full artistic control. The series, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was a popular and critical hit, which ran for several seasons, the last two on UPN. Whedon also produced a spin-off series, "Angel", which was also successful. A foray in to sci-fi television followed with "Firefly", which developed a cult following, but did not stay on air long. It did find an audience on DVD and through re-runs, and a spin-off feature film Serenity (2005) was released in 2005.
Other projects have included comic book writing, the sci-fi drama "Dollhouse" and the screenplay for Marvel blockbuster The Avengers (2012).- Producer

Drew Goddard was raised in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He attended Los Alamos High School in Los Alamos, New Mexico and graduated in 1993. He then attended the University of Colorado, and worked as a production assistant in L.A. after graduation. A spec script Drew wrote based on Six Feet Under (2001) came to the attention of both Marti Noxon at Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997) and David Greenwalt at Angel (1999). Both wanted him but because Marti found him first, Joss Whedon determined Drew would go to "Buffy". He became a staff writer for Season 7 (2002-2003), writing five episodes. Once "Buffy" was over, Drew moved over to "Angel" and became the executive story editor for Season 5 (2003-2004), writing four episodes. Drew also found time to write the introduction for a book of essays about Buffy, "Seven Seasons of Buffy", and to contribute two stories to the "Tales of the Vampires" comic series. In the summer of 2003, Drew received his first screenwriting award, along with co-writer Jane Espenson, when the Hugos honored "Conversations with Dead People" from "Buffy" with an award for Best Dramatic Presentation/Short Form. That episode was also honored with a SyFy Portal Genre Award for Best Episode/Television; another of Drew's "Buffy" episodes, "Lies My Parents Told Me" (co-written with David Fury), was nominated for the same award.- Director

Vulich was an immensely talented sculptor and make-up effects wizard whose fertile imagination gave rise to numerous monsters and aliens for creature features and episodic television. He drew much of his early inspiration from Tom Savini with whose crew he initially worked on monster effects for George A. Romero's Day of the Dead (1985). In 1989, Vulich and colleague Everett Burrell struck out on their own and founded Optic Nerve Studios, specialising in the creation, sculpting and fabrication of props and prosthetics, as well as in animatronics. They did some of their best work for television, winning three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Makeup for Babylon 5 (1993) (Vulich created most of the alien make-up designs for the Minbari, Narn, Drazi and other alien races, imbuing each with distinctive expressions and physiognomies), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997) and The X-Files (1993). Vulich's credo was to create make-up that was entirely believable, as original as possible and (in his own words) "avoided the clichés of the genre". After selling Optic Nerve to Glenn Hetrick, Vulich worked for some time as a producer and production manager for the Disney channel.- Make-Up Department

After working with several crews from Hong Kong, Sophia decided it was time to make a move and try her luck in Hong Kong cinema. She went around to the various studios looking for work. Her first role was New Kid in town (1990) (New Kids in Town). The director had asked her if she could fight. She co-starred in more than thirty movies and became the first Western woman to join an Asian Stunt team. Growing up John Medlen had four loves: karate, stunts, music, and directing. Much of his early work was based on his vast martial arts background, which opened doors for him to become a stunt player and a small production company that he co-owned in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which provided plenty of trial and error learning as a director and editor. Medlen had an enormous appetite for learning and would take any position from extra to production assistant just to be on a production set.
In 1994, Medlen's tenacity began to pay off. He worked as a stunt player/actor for a Universal Studio's live show and as a stunt player under stunt coordinator Pat Johnson on "WMAC Master's: Quest for the Dragon Star" (4Kids Productions 1995-96). This became the first turning point in his career as he went on to be Johnson's Assistant Stunt Coordinator and the character "Ermac" in "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" (NewLine 1997), which had a #1 box office debut.
The #1 new syndicated show of 1997, "The New Adventures of Robin Hood", (13 episodes, Warner Bros. International 1997) and the #1 new syndicated show of 1998, "Mortal Kombat Conquest", (22 episodes, NewLine / Threshold Entertainment / Warner Bros. 1998-99) featured Medlen as a 2nd unit director, stunt coordinator, and fight choreographer. Medlen credits these two shows, especially the latter, for giving him the opportunity to showcase his unique style that he is known for today. In between these two projects, Medlen worked in Europe as the 2nd unit director, stunt coordinator, and fight choreographer for "Beowulf" (Miramax 1998). Set in a "time out of time" Medlen loved the challenge of creating new weapons and fights for the star Christopher Lambert.
Then Medlen was off to Hawaii to stunt coordinate and fight choreograph military combat for "To End All Wars: A True World War II Story" starring Keffer Sutherland (Argyll Film 2000). Medlen returned from Hawaii to join the crew of the much acclaimed and awarded "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (44 episodes, 20th Century Fox) as the 2nd unit director, stunt coordinator, and fight choreographer. He is currently on his third season. While working on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", Medlen has had the wonderful opportunity to do other shows and features that continue to establish him as a trendsetter in fight choreography. J.J. Abrams, executive producer/creator of the "Best New Television Drama" (People's Choice Awards), "Alias", hired John Medlen as the fight choreographer for the "Alias" pilot, "Truth Be Told" (Touchtone 2001). Medlen has received high recognition for his work on this episode, including a 2002 an American Choreography Award for "Outstanding Achievement in Fight Choreography" for film and television.
Medlen's second nomination for an American Choreography Award came from his work on the box office action sensation "Spiderman" (Sony Pictures 2000). As the fight choreographer under stunt coordinator Jeff Habberstad, Medlen was thrilled to develop such high action fights for the well-known Marvel Comic characters.
Medlen just completed work on "In the Houze"(Touchstone) starring Steve Martin and Queen Lativa. As 2nd unit director, stunt coordinator, and fight choreographer, Medlen enjoyed creating the comedic fights for this soon to be released feature. John Medlen is a proud member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). He is married and considers his greatest accomplishment in life his precious daughter.- Editor
