1. Jackie Brown (1997)

62 Metascore

A flight attendant with a criminal past gets nabbed by the ATF for smuggling. Under pressure to become an informant against the illegal arms dealer she works for, she must find a way to secure her future without getting killed.

Director: Quentin Tarantino | Stars: Pam Grier, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Forster, Bridget Fonda

Votes: 375,293 | Gross: $39.67M

At the risk of being hunted down by all of his other characters, Jackie Brown remains my favorite QT creation.

2. The Boondocks (2005–2014)

Brothers Huey and Riley Freeman experience a culture clash when they leave Chicago to move in with their grandfather in the suburbs.

Stars: Regina King, John Witherspoon, Gary Anthony Williams, Cedric Yarbrough

Votes: 35,759

One of the finest comic adaptations ever features the voice of Samuel L. Jackson in only a handful of episodes, but I have watched this show three times through.

3. Grace of My Heart (1996)

R | 116 min | Comedy, Drama, Music

Director: Allison Anders | Stars: Illeana Douglas, John Turturro, Sissy Boyd, Christina Pickles

Votes: 4,081 | Gross: $0.62M

Not the strongest script in this bunch, but Bridget Fonda is part of an excellent supporting cast that holds up Illeana Douglas's first leading role.

4. Heat (1995)

76 Metascore

A group of high-end professional thieves start to feel the heat from the LAPD when they unknowingly leave a verbal clue at their latest heist.

Director: Michael Mann | Stars: Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer, Jon Voight

Votes: 719,899 | Gross: $67.44M

Robert De Niro's career choices were solid through the 1990s; this crime epic ranks as one of his top performances from that decade.

5. The L Word (I) (2004–2009)

TV-MA | 50 min | Drama, Romance

Follows the lives and loves of a small, close-knit group of lesbian women living in Los Angeles as well as the friends and family members that either support or loathe them.

Stars: Jennifer Beals, Leisha Hailey, Laurel Holloman, Mia Kirshner

Votes: 28,774

Perhaps the top binge-watch candidate on this list. For the uninitiated, "The L Word" blows off the "guilty" label and remains a pleasure in which to immerse yourself. Pam Grier supports as Kit Porter, a stormy performer/cafe owner.

6. Mulholland Drive (2001)

R | 147 min | Drama, Mystery, Thriller

86 Metascore

After a car wreck on Mulholland Drive renders a woman amnesiac, she and a Hollywood-hopeful search for clues and answers across Los Angeles in a twisting venture beyond dreams and reality.

Director: David Lynch | Stars: Naomi Watts, Laura Harring, Justin Theroux, Jeanne Bates

Votes: 384,100 | Gross: $7.22M

This is one of Robert Forster's best roles since Jackie Brown. And I plan on re-watching this film as soon as David Cronenberg's Maps to the Stars (a hopeful companion piece) is released.

-Arno

7. Out of Sight (1998)

Michael Keaton has an uncredited role here -- a reprise of his Jackie Brown character, Ray Nicolette.
