2015 Movies I'm Interested in
These are listed in order of their release. I will most likely only see half of these in the theater, but these are the films which are on my radar due to me, my wife, daughter or grand kids wanting to see them. This list started out with 19 films, but will surely grow as the year goes by. I will add my 2-cents on them when I actually do see them.

- DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsColin FirthTaron EgertonSamuel L. JacksonA spy organisation recruits a promising street kid into the agency's training program, while a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.Absolutely had a blast watching this. It is old school Bond on steroids. Any fan of the old-school Bond films or Matthew Vaughn in general as a director, need to check this out. Wonderful performances, some twists and crazy R-rated action make this an absolute joy to watch. I am giving this a not-so-secret 8 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorSam Taylor-JohnsonStarsDakota JohnsonJamie DornanJennifer EhleLiterature student Anastasia Steele's life changes forever when she meets handsome, yet tormented, billionaire Christian Grey.Had no clue what to expect from this movie. I knew the subject matter, but nothing more. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the film. Leads have perfect chemistry. The whole dominant/submissive relationship is not all buckles and tie-downs. The movie is for fans of the book or genre, no new converts will be gained. There is no grey area here, a solid 7 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsLily JamesCate BlanchettRichard MaddenWhen her father unexpectedly dies, young Ella finds herself at the mercy of her cruel stepmother and her scheming stepsisters. Never one to give up hope, Ella's fortunes begin to change after meeting a dashing stranger. There is nothing new or amazing here, per say, it is however a wonderfully acted and presented live-action interpretation of the famous Cinderella story. There is not a sour note to be had among a stellar cast. Everyone is as they should be, no re-imagining or other tinkering with the story that has become common place lately with Disney. We get exactly what we expect and that is a sweetly and capability told children's fairy tale. A nice 7 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorRobert SchwentkeStarsShailene WoodleyAnsel ElgortTheo JamesBeatrice Prior must confront her inner demons and continue her fight against a powerful alliance which threatens to tear her society apart with the help from others on her side.I was late to the Divergent fandom; saw the first film on Blu and loved it. Insurgent picks up not long after the events of Divergent and it successfully moves the story along. A bigger film and in some respects, better than Divergent. It gets an 8 out of 10 stars and a hearty "go see".
- DirectorJames WanStarsVin DieselPaul WalkerDwayne JohnsonDeckard Shaw seeks revenge against Dominic Toretto and his family for his comatose brother.Everything is amped up to the extreme in the 7th entry of the Fast & Furious franchise. Fans will not be disappointed here, even with totally absurd action scenes that devy all concept of "reality", the film gives fans exactly what we love. What sets this apart from the other is of course it is the last film of Paul Walker's career/life. The film does an absolutely classy and emotional send off to him that sets this film apart from the others. It gets a 9 out of 10 stars from and a "must see" recommendation for all the fans of the series.
- DirectorLee Toland KriegerStarsBlake LivelyMichiel HuismanHarrison FordA young woman, born at the turn of the 20th century, is rendered ageless after an accident. After many solitary years, she meets a man who complicates the eternal life she has settled into.
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansMark RuffaloWhen Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plan.Great fun with characters we have come to love. It ticks off all the checklist items that we expect, which makes it a little too predictable. Knowing we will see most of these characters in Civil War, the drama is forced through wasting a character. It is overstuffed, no doubt about that, so it lacks a certain charm and awe the first film had. The middle act offers the most substance of the movie, Hawkeye benefiting the most here. Standout for me was James Spader chewing up every scene. All in all, it is fun and does what it needs to, a solid 7 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorElizabeth BanksStarsAnna KendrickRebel WilsonHailee SteinfeldAfter a humiliating command performance at The Kennedy Center, the Barden Bellas enter an international competition that no American group has ever won in order to regain their status and right to perform. All of the gang is back and this time, it isn't just other college groups they are up against, this time, it is the world. Lots of familiarity with the second film, but that is a good thing. You play to your strengths and first time directory Elizabeth Banks doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. Lots of fun mixes of genres sung a Capella and characters, both familiar and new, hit all the right beats. A hail the Bellas!!! Solid 7 out of 10 stars and a must see for fans and those just needing a reason to laugh and enjoy crazy music mixes.
- DirectorGeorge MillerStarsTom HardyCharlize TheronNicholas HoultIn a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in search for her homeland with the aid of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshipper and a drifter named Max.It took a while to complete, but like a fine wine, Miller took his time and provided theaters one of the best action films in the last couple of decades. Full out crazy dystopian action above and beyond anything we have seen of late. Charlize Theron is fantastic and shows an action side that has only been hinted at before. A "max"imum 10 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorBrad BirdStarsGeorge ClooneyBritt RobertsonHugh LaurieBound by a shared destiny, a teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor embark on a mission to unearth the secrets of a place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory.Back in the 70's and 80's Disney presented the World of Disney on Sunday nights. These were specials and movies which became a staple for many tweens and teens. This movie is very much in the spirit of those films. Clooney has great chemistry with his young cohorts. A really earnest and overall positive message is presented. A good matinee film, 7 of 10 stars.
- DirectorGil KenanStarsSam RockwellRosemarie DeWittKennedi ClementsA family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces must come together to rescue their youngest daughter after the apparitions take her captive.Lacking the playfulness of the original, not to mention sub-par performances and music, this remake of the 80's classic is "meh" at best. There are elements of a decent remake, some tweaks here and there might have raised it above mediocre, still, another example of cashing in on a name without earning audience. A haunting 6 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorPaul FeigStarsMelissa McCarthyRose ByrneJude LawA desk-bound CIA analyst volunteers to go undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer and prevent diabolical global disaster.McCarthy and Feig have turned into a winning team. They push the envelope with their latest collaboration and it is a big win. I laughed really hard throughout the film. McCarthy ditches the loser persona she adopted over her last films and plays more in her wheel-house this go around. An excellent supporting cast gives this an 8 out of 10 stars from me.
- DirectorColin TrevorrowStarsChris PrattBryce Dallas HowardTy SimpkinsA new theme park, built on the original site of Jurassic Park, creates a genetically modified hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, which escapes containment and goes on a killing spree. Not the game changer the original was and is, still, Jurassic World incorporates a lot of what makes a summer popcorn film work. Lots of dinos, parel, action, humor, heroes/heroines, villains and dino vs. dino, all get check marked here. The final act/finale is the best of the franchise hands down IMO. A new use for the technology/science is introduced and looks to be further explored in subsequent chapters which makes for some interesting stories to be told. All in all, a solid 8 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorPete DocterRonnie Del CarmenStarsAmy PoehlerBill HaderLewis BlackAfter young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school.Pixar finally goes back to a totally original story and hits it out of the park once again. On par with some of their best, Inside Out offers up a unique look into the mind of a tween who is in the process of a big move. This is when Pixar is at their best; going outside the box and into the depths of emotion. An emotional 8 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorSeth MacFarlaneStarsMark WahlbergSeth MacFarlaneAmanda SeyfriedNewlywed couple Ted and Tami-Lynn want to have a baby, but in order to qualify to be a parent, Ted will have to prove he's a person in a court of law. There are several moments that laughs are generated, but the film lacks any kind of cohesive storytelling. It is like they filmed a ton of funny bits then cut and pasted them in an attempt to make a film. Loved the first film, this was definitely a let down. A disappointing 6 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorAlan TaylorStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerJason ClarkeEmilia ClarkeWhen John Connor, leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline.
- DirectorKyle BaldaPierre CoffinStarsSandra BullockJon HammMichael KeatonMinions Stuart, Kevin, and Bob are recruited by Scarlet Overkill, a supervillain who, alongside her inventor husband Herb, hatches a plot to take over the world. The Minions are best in small doses. In the Despicable movies, they work perfectly, much like the penguins from the Madagascar movies. But give the Minions a whole movie, their charm kind of wears thin. There are some fun musical montages and bits throughout, but just not enough for a full fledged movie. Bullock's first voice work as a villain is entertaining. This is one of those that is best viewed on disk or PPV so you keep the cost to a minimum. Hate to say it, but the first clunker of the year for me at the theater, a 6 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorPeyton ReedStarsPaul RuddMichael DouglasCorey StollArmed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, pull off a plan that will save the world. It is definitely not one of the top-tier stories in the MCU, however, the film is a nice addition to the universe. Paul Rudd is more than believable as both a master thief and hero. Given his comedic output, I had doubts, but he shines here. As does Michael Douglas who has one of his best characters in many years. The SFX are very well done and add a lot to the believability of the whole affair. The film does teeter on a fine line between comedy and action adventure, but it doesn't go too far into the comedy that it totally looses its credibility. A not so "small" 7 out of 10 star rating from me.
- DirectorJudd ApatowStarsAmy SchumerBill HaderBrie LarsonHaving thought that monogamy was never possible, a commitment-phobic career woman may have to face her fears when she meets a good guy.All in all, I enjoy Amy Schumer, granted she is an acquired taste. That said, for her first written feature, this is not a bad movie. It just comes off as being very much impromptu from start to finish. That is OK in bursts, but over time, the lack of a cohesive story does run its course. An admirable 7 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorChris ColumbusStarsAdam SandlerKevin JamesMichelle MonaghanWhen aliens misinterpret video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth in the form of the video games.Adam Sandler seems to be in a rut of late when it comes to critical response and some fan response to his projects. I have actually enjoyed most of his films of late, this one included. If you played arcade games in the 80's, this is a fun memory lane romp set in the modern world where geeks rule. Not going to change the world, but I enjoyed it alot. An extra life 7 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorJohn Francis DaleyJonathan GoldsteinStarsEd HelmsChristina ApplegateSkyler GisondoRusty Griswold takes his own family on a road trip to "Walley World" in order to spice things up with his wife and reconnect with his sons. Not the classic that the original film has become, that said, it does have some genuine laugh out loud moments (the opening credits are a hoot). Ed Helms is OK as Rusty, though I really would have loved to seen Hall reprise his role and seen what he could have done with it. There are enough tweaks to the original's story and easter egg references to the original that it does feel like a continuation rather than a re-telling. All in all, a fun rental movie at worse. A rest area be damned 7 out of 10 stars rating.
- DirectorChristopher McQuarrieStarsTom CruiseRebecca FergusonJeremy RennerEthan and his team take on their most impossible mission yet when they have to eradicate an international rogue organization as highly skilled as they are and committed to destroying the IMF.This time around, Ethan and the whole team are disavowed, the CIA stepping in to suck up the remnants of the IMF. Lots of world trekking, a may be bad, may not be bad former British intelligence agent, and a "rogue nation" that seems to be taking over things now that the IMF is out of the way keep our favorite IMF team on their toes. An absolute blast of a film, tons of action, humor and twists. With this film, the score is finally using a lot of the music cues from the original series. A not-so impossible to believe 8 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorJosh TrankStarsMiles TellerKate MaraMichael B. JordanFour young outsiders teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe which alters their physical form in shocking ways. The four must learn to harness their new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy. Not a total trainwreck, but a movie searching for an identity. Is it a comic book film, a science fiction movie, a coming of age movie, an indie movie, a big budget popcorn film, just what the heck is it? That is at the core of the problem with the film. Lots of viable ideas, but instead of focusing on one, it is a mix of all. The performances are sadly phoned in from a troup of young actors who have done way better in previous films. A not so fantastic 6 out of 10 stars.
- DirectorJoel EdgertonStarsJason BatemanRebecca HallJoel EdgertonA married couple, Simon and Robyn, run into Gordo, an old classmate. Things take a turn when Gordo begins to drop in unannounced at their house and inundates them with mysterious gifts.
- DirectorGuy RitchieStarsHenry CavillArmie HammerAlicia VikanderIn the early 1960s, CIA agent Napoleon Solo and KGB operative Illya Kuryakin participate in a joint mission against a mysterious criminal organization, which is working to proliferate nuclear weapons.
