The son of the great character actor (and Errol Flynn sidekick) Alan Hale, Alan Hale Jr. (he dropped the Jr. after his father passed away) was literally born into the movies. He did many television guest appearances as well before getting his role as Skipper Jonas Grumby on the cult comedy Gilligan's Island (1964). After the sitcom went off the air, Hale continued to act and even teamed up with Gilligan co-star Bob Denver in The Good Guys (1968), a CBS-TV comedy that lasted only two years. Amy Lin Johnson was born on 8 March 1972 in Caro, Michigan, USA. She was a producer and production manager, known for Crash Course (2009), Cartoon Network Hall of Game Awards (2014) and 2014 Young Hollywood Awards (2014). She died on 7 January 2022 in Costa Rica.- Andrea Alexis Parker learned to walk on the sand in Newport Beach, California. Andrea's natural grace led her beloved mother Karen Macaulay to enroll Andrea in ballet lessons at 5 years old, soon turning to serious classical training by the age of 8. By the time she was 11, Andrea's passion for dance was so strong that she began to leave home each summer to continue her formal ballet training in NYC and San Francisco. At 15, it was the thrill of her very young life to be invited to train full time with the San Francisco Ballet School and perform year-round with The San Francisco Ballet Company. Moving away from home to dance at The War Memorial Opera House while also touring with SFB was a dream come true, but life had other plans for Andrea.
Forced to retire from ballet at 18 when her 5'10" height (6'3" on point!) proved problematic for the lesser stature of the male ballet dancers, Andrea moved home to Los Angeles, where she studied and transitioned to contemporary dance. Andrea found herself a dance agent and began to book countless commercials, industrials, videos and dance gigs including MARRIED WITH CHILDREN. Her talent took her from LA to New York to Europe as a professional dancer, until she returned to Hollywood to study acting.
While continuing her studies, Andrea performed in several plays in Los Angeles where her talent was recognized by the legendary Susan Smith, eponymous head of what was then the hottest boutique talent agency in town. Andrea soon had her very first acting audition, and booked the role in what would become the classic Emmy-award winning SEINFELD episode "The Contest" and she never looked back as her acting took center stage.
Andrea's acting career took off when she was cast as George Clooney's love interest for the first two seasons of the global phenomenon hit series E.R. Next, she was set as the co-lead opposite David James Elliott in J.A.G. but faced a devastating disappointment when the network decided to go in another direction, replacing her after the pilot episode. Never one to quit anything, Andrea faced down those same network executives the very next season, landing her iconic starring role as Miss Parker in THE PRETENDER.
Andrea took the opportunity to learn fight choreography from some of the world's best stunt women, and learned how to handle firearms and shoot by the LAPD, bringing maximum authenticity to the boss lady roles she so often plays. She trained in stunt driving with world renowned stunt driving coach Bobby Ore, and held her own in the Toyota Celebrity Long Beach Grand Prix.
Andrea showed her incredible versatility as an actress when she shifted from drama to comedy, starring for 4 seasons as the gorgeous Lydia Weston in the underrated ABC ensemble comedy LESS THAN PERFECT, alongside such stars as Zachary Levi, Eric Roberts, Patrick Warburton, Sherry Shepherd, Will Sasso and Andy Dick.
Andrea was thrilled to join the cast of long running hit series DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES in its final season, and most recently held dual roles as twin sisters Mary Drake and Jessica DiLaurentis in the wildly popular Freeform series PRETTY LITTLE LIARS.
Andrea lives in Los Angeles and is married to the man of her dreams, film producer Michael Birnbaum. - Actor

Anna Held was born Helene Anna Held on March 8, 1872 (some sources say 1873) in Warsaw, Poland, the youngest of eleven children in a Jewish family. Her family moved to France, where her father died from alcoholism when she was twelve years old. She began her career singing in Europe. Her signature song was "Won't You Come And Play With Me." In 1894, she married Maximo Carrerra, a wealthy South American adventurer. Their daughter, Liane, was born the following year.
While performing in London in 1886 she met producer Florenz Ziegfeld Jr. He brought her to New York and the two began a passionate affair. Held quickly became one of Broadway's most popular stars. She starred in the hit shows A Parlor Match, Papa's Wife, and Miss Innocence. Audiences loved her voice and her risque performances. Her lavish stage shows were the inspiration for the Ziegfeld Follies. The press reported that she bathed in milk every day and had a rib removed to achieve her perfect hourglass figure (her waist was only eighteen inches).
Maximo Carrera, her estranged husband, died in 1908. Although she referred to Ziegfeld as her husband the two never legally married and he broke her heart with his infidelity. When she became pregnant he convinced her to have an abortion. The couple ended their relationship in 1909 after he fell in love with Lillian Lorraine. In 1916, Held made the feature length film Madame la Presidente (1916), playing Mademoiselle Gobette, for which she was paid $30,000. Later, she appeared in the Broadway musical Follow Me.
During WWI, she went to France to entertain the soldiers. She was diagnosed with cancer in early 1918. On August 12, 1918, aged 46, she died of multiple myeloma. She was buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, Westchester County, New York. Florenz Ziegfeld was criticized in the press for not attending her funeral.- Actress

Claire Trevor was born Claire Wemlinger in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, New York, the only child of Fifth Avenue merchant-tailor Noel Wemlinger, an immigrant Frenchman from Paris who lost his business during the Depression, and his Belfast-born wife, Benjamina, known as "Betty". Young Claire's interest in acting began when she was 11 years old. She attended high school in Mamaroneck, Westchester County, New York. After starting classes at Columbia University, she spent six months at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, also in New York. Her adult acting experience began in the late 1920s in several stock productions; she appeared with Robert Henderson's Repertory Players in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1930. That same year, aged 20, she signed with Warner Bros. Not too far from her home haunts was Vitagraph Studios in Brooklyn, the last and best of the early sound process studios, which had been acquired by Warner Bros. in 1925 to become Vitaphone. Trevor appeared in several of the nearly 2000 shorts cranked out by the studio between 1926 and 1930. Then she was sent west to do ten weeks of stock productions with other contract players in St. Louis. In 1931 she did summer stock with the Hampton Players in Southampton, Long Island. Finally, she debuted on Broadway in 1932 in "Whistling in the Dark".
Trevor moved to the silver screen, debuting in the western Life in the Raw (1933). There would be three more films (one more western) that year and six or more through the 1930s. Although she had been typed playing gun molls and hard-case women of the world, she displayed her already considerable versatility in these early films, often playing competent, take-charge professional women as well as "shady" ladies. There was a disappointed-pout-vulnerability in her face and that famous slightly New York-burred voice that cracked with a little cry when heightened by emotion that quickly revealed an unusual and sensitive performer. Many of her early films were "B" potboilers, but she worked with Spencer Tracy on several occasions, notably Dante's Inferno (1935).
Hollywood finally took notice of her talents by nominating her for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her standout performance as a slum girl forced by poverty into prostitution in Dead End (1937), opposite Humphrey Bogart. That same year she did the radio drama "Big Town" with Edward G. Robinson, then teamed with he and Bogart again for the slightly hokey but entertaining The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse (1938). Director John Ford tapped her for his first big sound Western film, Stagecoach (1939), the film that made a star of John Wayne. All her abilities to bring complexity to a character showed in her kicked-around dance hall girl "Dallas", one of the great early female roles. She and Wayne were electric, and they were paired in three more films during their careers.
In the 1940s, Trevor began appearing in the genre that brought her to true stardom: "film noir". She started in a big way as killer Ruth Dillon in Street of Chance (1942) with Burgess Meredith. She was equally convincing as the more complex but nonetheless two-faced Mrs. Grayle in the Philip Marlowe vehicle Murder, My Sweet (1944). However, she was something very different and quite extraordinary as washed-up, hopelessly alcoholic former nightclub singer and moll Gaye Dawn in Key Largo (1948), for which she won an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress, again working with Bogart and Robinson. Her pitiful rendition of the torch song "Moanin' Low", which her character was forced to sing, humiliatingly, for the sadistic crime boss played by Robinson (to whom she is, figuratively speaking, permanently tethered) in exchange for a desperately needed drink. There were more quality movies and an additional Academy nomination (The High and the Mighty (1954)) into the 1950s,, but she also was doing work on stage and in television.
She was enthusiastic about live TV and appeared on several famous shows by the mid-1950s. She won an Emmy for Best Live Television Performance by an Actress as the flighty wife of Fredric March in NBC's Dodsworth (1956). She alternated her career among film, stage and TV roles. As she aged she easily transitioned into "distinguished matron" and mother roles, one of her most unusual ones being the murderous Ma Barker in Ma Barker and Her Boys (1959). Her final film role was as Sally Field's mother in Kiss Me Goodbye (1982).
Trevor and her third husband, producer Milton H. Bren, had long been residents of tony Newport Beach, California, to which they returned when she finally retired from screen work. However, she did maintain an active interest in stage work, and became associated with the University of California-Irvine's School of Arts. She and her husband contributed some $10 million to further its development for the visual and performing arts (that included three endowed professorships). After her passing in April 2000 at 90 years of age, the University renamed the school The Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Her presence on the UCI campus is in more than spirit alone. She donated her Oscar and her Emmy to UCI; both are on display in the arts plaza at the campus theatre that bears her name.- Actor

Handsome, pipe-smoking South-African born singer and actor who reached the peak of his popularity in Britain during the late 1950s and early '60s. Lotis began his career in the entertainment industry at the tender age of nine after winning a talent contest. He then made several stage appearances and sang on radio. After leaving school, aged fifteen, he briefly worked as a bus conductor and as an electrician before leaving for England with a letter of introduction to the bandleader Ted Heath. Engaged as a regular vocalist with the Heath orchestra during the early 1950s, Lotis often crooned ballads which proved especially popular with female audiences. He straddled different genres, his repertoire encompassing jazz, pop and rock 'n' roll.
As a solo act from the mid-'50s, Lotis recorded a number of albums for Decca, Pye Nixa and Columbia, was featured frequently on BBC radio, toured the variety circuit and performed at the London Palladium. His singing career peaked in the '60s when he became a regular guest on TV pop music shows like Six-Five Special (1957) and Dial for Music (1959). He also acted in a few motion pictures, including The City of the Dead (1960) and Sword of Sherwood Forest (1960). As changing musical trends began to adversely affect his career by the end of the decade, Lotis reinvented himself as a restaurateur and antique store owner, based in the market town of Tring in Hertfordshire. He did, however, make a brief nostalgic comeback in the 1980s.
Lotis was married to the South African singer Alexandrena Maie (Rena) Mackie (1929-1997). After her death from cancer, he remarried and moved to North Norfolk where he passed away, aged 97, on February 8 2023.- Actor

She was an actress, known for Rob Roy (1977), Sunset Song (1971) and The Omega Factor (1979). She died on 25 April 2018 in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.
- This vibrant Scottish character actress managed in her seven-decade career trek to not only brighten up the Broadway stage during the 1950s and 1960s in roles ranging from the man-searching milliner Irene Malloy to Hamlet's mother Queen Gertrude, but conquered the TV market too, delighting daytime audiences for not only standing toe-to-toe against Susan Lucci's Erica Kane character (and later becoming her surrogate mom), but issuing in-your-face lessons on morality to other infamous Pine Valley characters on the classic soap opera All My Children (1970).
Eileen Herlie was born Eileen Herlihy on March 8, 1918, in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of a Catholic father and a Protestant mother. She studied and performed for many years with the Scottish National Players before transporting herself to England where she became professionally associated with the late and great director Tyrone Guthrie. Making her official stage debut with "Sweet Aloes" in 1938, she went on to advance in such plays as "Rebecca" (1942), "Peg o' My Heart (1943), "The Little Foxes" (1944), "John Gabriel Borkman" (1944), "The Second Mrs. Tanqueray" (1944), "The School for Scandal" (1945) and "Anna Christie" (1945) before making a strong impression as Queen Gertrude in "Hamlet" in late 1945. Her film debut came in support of Margaret Lockwood and Dennis Price in the costume drama Hungry Hill (1947), but her huge breakthrough came about when Laurence Olivier cast her as his mother, Queen Gertrude, in his film adaptation of Hamlet (1948) -- this despite Eileen being 11 years younger than Olivier, who won the Oscar for his superb work in the title role. Years down the road Eileen would again earn acclaim playing Gertrude in the 1964 Broadway production of "Hamlet" starring Richard Burton and in its accompanying Hamlet (1964) film effort.
Surprisingly, Eileen was seen very infrequently on film after this initial success opposite Olivier. Instead she stayed true blue to her first love -- the theatre. Although she appeared to fine advantage on celluloid in The Angel with the Trumpet (1950), Gilbert and Sullivan (1953), Uncle Willie's Bicycle Shop (1953), Cocktails in the Kitchen (1954), She Didn't Say No (1958) and Freud (1962), she found even more rewarding roles under the theatre lights where she earned enviable notices for her work in "The Eagle Has Two Heads" (1946), "Medea" (1948) (title role), "The Way of the World" (1953) and "Venice Preserv'd" (1953).
The feisty, flaming red-haired Scot took her first Broadway bow in 1955 as hat shop owner Irene Molloy in the highly successful production of "The Matchmaker" with Ruth Gordon starring as Dolly Levi. Eileen also appeared in New York musicals, co-starring with Jackie Gleason in the nostalgic "Take Me Along" (1960), which merited her a Tony nomination, and Ray Bolger in "All-American" (1962). Elsewhere, she graced two of Peter Ustinov's plays ("Photo Finish (1963) and "Halfway Up the Tree" (1967)) and continued in classic regal fashion with her Queen Mary role opposite George Grizzard's Edward VIII in "Crown Matrimonial" (1973). She played the same role a year earlier in a TV film version opposite Richard Chamberlain as the abdicating King Edward and Faye Dunaway as paramour Wallis Simpson. Eileen's last stage role was in "The Great Sebastians" (1974) in Chicago co-starring Werner Klemperer, and her final film part came with a featured role in Chekhov's The Sea Gull (1968), directed by Sidney Lumet and surrounded by a superb cast that included Simone Signoret, Vanessa Redgrave, David Warner and James Mason.
In 1976, Herlie made a long and permanent switch to daytime soaps. As bawdy, plump-figured carny Myrtle Lum Fargate who later refined herself to a point and operated a frilly boutique store on All My Children (1970), audiences took a special liking to her down-to-earth character whose impulsive bluntness, staunch integrity, briny tongue and heart of gold made her one of Pine Valley's more beloved residents. She remained in town for over thirty years.
Divorced twice with no children, Eileen died at age 90 on October 8, 2008, due to complications from pneumonia. The stalwart actress continued to act almost to the end, last playing her "All My Children" character in June of 2008. - Actress

Fardeen Khan, born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, is an Indian film actor who has been a part of Bollywood since the late 1990s. He hails from a prominent film family, being the son of veteran actor Feroz Khan and the nephew of legendary actor Sanjay Khan.
Fardeen Khan made his acting debut in Bollywood with the film "Prem Aggan" in 1998, directed by his father Feroz Khan. The movie received mixed reviews, but Fardeen's debut performance caught the industry's attention. However, it was his second film, "Jungle" (2000), directed by Ram Gopal Varma, that earned him recognition and appreciation for his acting skills.
Following the success of "Jungle," Fardeen Khan appeared in a series of films throughout the early 2000s, such as "Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega" (2001), "Om Jai Jagadish" (2002), and "Bhoot" (2003). He showcased his versatility by taking on roles in various genres, including comedy, drama, and thriller.
One of his most successful films was "No Entry" (2005), a comedy directed by Anees Bazmee, where he shared the screen with Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor. The film was a commercial hit and contributed to Fardeen's popularity.
While Fardeen Khan enjoyed success in his early career, his later years saw a decline in film offers. He took a hiatus from acting and was occasionally seen in supporting roles. In recent years, there have been occasional rumors and reports suggesting his possible comeback to Bollywood, but as of my last knowledge update in January 2022, no major projects had been announced.
In addition to his film career, Fardeen Khan has also been in the media spotlight for his personal life. He is married to Natasha Madhvani, and the couple has two children.- Actress

Francisco Rabal -- Paco to everyone -- was born in the mining camp where his father worked. His mother owned a small mill. At the age of six, with the Civil War breaking out, the family emigrated to Madrid and he started working as a street salesman and later in a chocolate factory, which later led to him working as an electrician in the Chamartín Film Studios. It was here he started in his first films in crowd scenes and so on. However, following advice from people like Dámaso Alonso, he found his way into the theatre and in 1950 started working with José Tamayo where he met Asunción Balaguer, who was to become his wife and inseparable companion for the rest of his life. One of the plays he starred in was a Spanish version of Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman." The big breakthrough came when he met Luis Buñuel, one of the greatest of Spanish film directors. They became great friends, in part due to their similar philosophies on life. Nazarín and Viridiana remain as hallmarks of that early period. However, with maturity and the passing of the Franco Régime, Rabal's best work was yet to come, and indeed culminated with his exceptional rôle in _Santos Inocentes, Los (1984)_, one of the best three or four Spanish films of all time. In 1987 he made a wonderful TV series called Juncal (1989) which was probably the character which mostly resembled the real-life Paco Rabal: a veritable "truhan" -- a roguish rascal. However, he has played the character of the Aragonese painter Francisco Goya in three different films, a personage who he became heavily identified with. It is in this period that he received his highest awards in Spain, Cannes, Montreal, etc. He is the only Spanish actor to have been given a Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of his native Murcia. Returning from the XXV Montreal Festival where he was homaged for a lifetime's work, he died over the English Channel aboard the aeroplane bringing him from London to Madrid and, despite the emergency landing in Bordeaux, nothing could be done for him. The pressure inside the plane aggravated his chronic bronchitis and started a fit of coughing which he was not able to overcome. He has published a few books which he called "some little things of mine," but most notably his collection of verses and "coplas" in 1994 and a little later collaborated with Agustín Cerezales on his biography "Si yo te contara" (If I told you all about it). His daughter, Teresa Rabal, is a successful actress, singer and TV presenter, while his son, Benito, also works as film director.- Actor

Gerald Potterton was born on 8 March 1931 in London, England, UK. He was a director and writer, known for Heavy Metal (1981), The Railrodder (1965) and Yellow Submarine (1968). He died on 23 August 2022 in Cowansville, Québec, Canada.- Once described early in his career as Australia's version of 1950's Hollywood action star Jeff Chandler, sharing his rugged looks and intense performances, Gerard began in theater before moving to television playing memorable villains in Homicide (1964). This led to his breakthrough role as enemy espionage agent Kragg in Hunter (1967), the arch nemesis of the title character played by Tony Ward. The Kragg role proved so popular with audiences that the producers surprisingly had the character change sides to become Hunter's ally. Following Ward's departure from the series, Gerard assumed the lead role, before he was given his own show, playing reliable Detective Frank Banner in Division 4 (1969). This role would last six years and earn him many awards, including two gold Logies as most popular personality on Australian television.
Following his long period playing Banner, Gerard had lead roles in many successful series and mini-series, including Tandarra (1976), Against the Wind (1978), and The Last Outlaw (1980). Much preferring to be part of an ensemble cast rather than as the star, he then took roles in established series, such as the airport manager in Skyways (1979), and later as the dependable Luke Mitchell in The Flying Doctors (1986). Continuing his long acting career in both movies and television, one of Gerard's more recent roles was as a memorable gangland patriarch in the controversial mini series Underbelly (2008). But he will always be identified for his realistic portrayals of idealist agent Kragg, and dedicated cop Frank Banner, roles that made him a reluctant television celebrity, rather than the versatile character actor he had intended to become. - Gregorio de Laferrere was born on 8 March 1867 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. India Adams was a 'ghost singer', a voice double for Cyd Charisse in The Band Wagon (1953) (her most famous number being "That's Entertainment") and for Joan Crawford in Torch Song (1953). This was kept under wraps for a long time, the actress having had to sign a gag order as part of her contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. She later said "you had to swear on a Bible you weren't going to tell anybody." A year later, India dubbed Crawford's singing again for the Republic western Johnny Guitar (1954).

In 1990, she assembled a vocal quartet, "Hollywood's Secret Singing Stars", teaming up with Annette Warren (who had provided the dubbing voice for Ava Gardner's singing in Show Boat (1951) and for Lucille Ball in Fancy Pants (1950)), former big band vocalist Jo Ann Greer (who had dubbed for Rita Hayworth 's singing in Pal Joey (1957), June Allyson in The Opposite Sex (1956) and Esther Williams in Jupiter's Darling (1955)) and Betty Wand (vocal stand-in for Esther Williams in Pagan Love Song (1950) and Leslie Caron in Gigi (1958)). The act went on to perform at various West Coast venues and the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in New York.
