The Irish were slaves during the 17th Century.
During the 1600s, the Irish were slaves and indentured slaves where the English forced them to be shipped out of their homes. The brutal punishment was lead by Queen Elizabeth and Oliver Cromwell during the 1600s, which lead to the Irish revolt (war against the English) from 1641 to 1653. The British caused thousands of Irish people to be sailed to America and the Caribbean, such as Bermuda, Barbados, St Kitts, Montserrat (main port for Irish slavery), Antigua, and Nevis. The British wanted to get rid of the Irish so they could have the population all themselves. The Irish natives could not handle the new lifestyle in the tropical island, known as the West Indies.
Even Irish children as young as 10 to 14 years, and younger, old were affected by slavery as well. As much as 550,000 Irish people died at the hands of slavery. During the 1600s, almost of million Irish people were kidnapped, which reduced the Ireland population to nearly 50 percent from 1,466,000 to 600,000 native Irish residing.
The term red legs or red neck is highly offensive to Irish and British people, which describe poor Whites whose legs were brutalized while working as slaves in the islands. This derogatory term is as bad as calling African Americans the N word.
Irish people suffered a great deal of pain and suffering, which was just as bad as the anguish African Americans endured during the Atlantic Slave Trade in the 16th century. Therefore, Irish, African Americans, Native Americans, Slavs, Russians, The Jews, and other nationalities who were victims of slavery should be able to relate with one another by knowing what it was like to experience harsh conditions. The message is to use all this painful history to bring each other up during the present and future. So let's live from one another and instead of bringing people down for our differences.
