- DirectorRichard LinklaterStarsEllar ColtranePatricia ArquetteEthan HawkeThe life of Mason, from early childhood to his arrival at college. The most boring 165 minutes of your life, following most bland and uninteresting protagonist as he slowly grows some facial hair while his mother marries 18 alcoholics every minute. There is no story, which can work IF DONE WELL, but here... no because this movie has some of the most garbage dialogue ever, so bad I'd rather dip my face in horse poo. All the praise hinges on the fact that it took 12 years to make, just because this movie's ambitious in its production, doesn't mean that being bad is suddenly off limits to the film. And I gave this movie a 5... I think I need to rethink that. I have so so soooooo much more to say about this movie, but I want to move on and you probably do too because I can see you there steaming in anger.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsJames StewartKim NovakBarbara Bel GeddesA former San Francisco police detective juggles wrestling with his personal demons and becoming obsessed with the hauntingly beautiful woman he has been hired to trail, who may be deeply disturbed.I like a lot of the first half and if the movie kept me as interested for the rest of the movie it wouldn't be on this list. But sadly by the end I hated the characters and the ending sucked in my opinion. I know Hitchcock liked ending his films quickly and suddenly, but here I really wasn't a fan. SHE JUST GOT SCARED OF A NUN SO KILLED HERSELF, WHAT!?
- DirectorPete DocterRonnie Del CarmenStarsAmy PoehlerBill HaderLewis BlackAfter young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school.Far from my favourite Pixar movie and I mean FAR, but would I call it bad? No. Would I call it great? No. It's alright I guess, but I just wasn't a fan. I'll probably have to rewatch it in the future and then who knows? Or maybe I was just at that age when this movie came out when family films were just kids films?
- DirectorJames CameronStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerLinda HamiltonMichael BiehnA human soldier is sent from 2029 to 1984 to stop an almost indestructible cyborg killing machine, sent from the same year, which has been programmed to execute a young woman whose unborn son is the key to humanity's future salvation. You can complain all you want about fast pace action, but the action in this movie is so slow (at least from my memory) and I don't see desire to go back to it unless I have to. I'm thankful it exists purely so the second one can be a massive improvement, but there really isn't anything special about this movie in my opinion (aside from that one line). Sorry Alex.
- DirectorGeorge MillerStarsMel GibsonJoanne SamuelHugh Keays-ByrneIn a self-destructing world, a vengeful Australian policeman sets out to stop a violent motorcycle gang.I did have a headache when I saw this so maybe that's why I wasn't a fan?
- DirectorIsao TakahataStarsChloë Grace MoretzJames CaanMary SteenburgenKaguya is a beautiful young woman coveted by five nobles. To try to avoid marrying a stranger she doesn't love, she sends her suitors on seemingly impossible tasks. But she will have to face her fate and punishment for her choices.Okay I will admit, the animation is superb in this movie and I love it. BUT... after the first act, I lost interest. The movie is long, but that isn't the problem, my problem is well... I can't really narrow it down to one point. I hated the Dad character and thought he was an "insert naughty word here", which makes sense I guess as he's the only bit of the animation that I don't like as his face looks like it's been stepped on by a parade of giants. The whole "Moon" twist felt so out of place and like I said I just lost interest after the first act, with the animation and music being the elements that kept me going. I know we don't live in any alternative reality, but I'm willing to bet that if this movie and plenty of other anime movies were made by Western animation companies, they would not receive the same acclaim.
- DirectorJoel CoenEthan CoenStarsJeff BridgesJohn GoodmanJulianne MooreJeff "The Dude" Lebowski, mistaken for a millionaire of the same name, seeks restitution for his ruined rug and enlists his bowling buddies to help get it.John Goodman's character has some funny moments, but I don't know why this movie is so loved.
- DirectorLana WachowskiLilly WachowskiStarsKeanu ReevesLaurence FishburneCarrie-Anne MossWhen a beautiful stranger leads computer hacker Neo to a forbidding underworld, he discovers the shocking truth--the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence.Do I like The Matrix? Yes, I think it's a very good action sci-fi movie. But do I think it's some kind of God tier gem and is one of the best movies ever made? Absolutely not. If you love it then that's completely fine and good for you, but I don't really understand why this movie is considered one of the greatest ever made. I still think it's a great movie overall with some great action and a decent story, but where the movie fails for me is with the characters who I found really hard to connect with.
- DirectorPete DocterBob PetersonStarsEdward AsnerJordan NagaiJohn Ratzenberger78-year-old Carl Fredricksen travels to Paradise Falls in his house equipped with balloons, inadvertently taking a young stowaway.Up is a good movie, the opening... 10/10 Pixar. HOWEVER, after that, the movie just becomes a good family movie, but nothing special in my opinion at least. There are some nice moments here and there, a few laughs and I do really like the ending, but compared to Pixar's other work at the time, this movie falls back in comparison, maybe that's just because I don't have the same nostalgia for this movie that I have for movies like Toy Story and Monsters Inc, but still. I still enjoy it none the less and would be happy to rewatch it, but I think the movie is completely overshadowed by its opening 10 minutes to the point where a lot of the rest of the movie is ignored, which I do understand because the opening is in a league of its own when compared to the rest of the movie.
- DirectorEthan CoenJoel CoenStarsJeff BridgesMatt DamonHailee SteinfeldA stubborn teenager enlists the help of a tough U.S. Marshal to track down her father's murderer.Everyone seems to label this as a remake done right. I haven't seen the original True Grit, but in my opinion this Western is very much lacking in comparison to a lot of other Westerns I've seen. I hardly felt a friendship growing between the protagonists, as they went from arguing to suddenly friends in my eyes. Jeff Bridges gives a good performance, but I could not make out what he was saying at all. And the ending, in traditional Coen Brothers fashion, is not satisfying.
- DirectorRobert WieneStarsWerner KraussConrad VeidtFriedrich FeherHypnotist Dr. Caligari uses a somnambulist, Cesare, to commit murders.I understand how influential this movie was and do respect it for that, but I have never been this bored in a silent movie before. Each shot lasts for what feels like half an hour and the ending felt so rushed that the twist did not leave me satisfied.
