- DirectorFrank MarshallStarsBarry GibbMaurice GibbRobin GibbAn exploration of the history of the Bee Gees, featuring revealing interviews with oldest brother Barry Gibb, and archival interviews with the late twin brothers Robin and Maurice.Seen at Gary's place, as per his recommendation. Things I learned: they had a breakup around the same time the beatles did, they got back together in 18 months. That White Sox double header with the Tigers really DID seal the end for the Bee Gees, as disco because synonymous with "disco sucks". That last hit, Disco Duck, didn't help either. Robin and Barry didn't get along well, and Maurice was often forced to be the go between. They did ask brother Andy to join the group in 1988 shortly before his death. There is a bridge in Miami that made the noise similar to the intro to Jive Talking...
- StarsRachael StirlingSarah BradfordA.N. WilsonThe relationships between female historical figures and their sisters.I liked the story behind the iconic Jackie O photograph. I felt it was also quite clear that Jackie was not the most beautiful sister.
- 1985– 3h 28mNot Rated8.4 (12K)TV EpisodeDirectorMartin ScorseseStarsBob DylanB.J. RolfzenDick KangasA chronicle of Bob Dylan's strange evolution between 1961 and 1966 from folk singer to protest singer to "voice of a generation" to rock star.
- DirectorErik PoppeStarsJuliette BinocheNikolaj Coster-WaldauLauryn CannyRebecca is one of the world's top war photographers. She must weather a major emotional storm when her husband refuses to put up with her dangerous life any longer.Woman with wanderlust chooses her camera and the danger of combat zones over her loving family back in Ireland.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleMichael CaineKen WatanabeAfter witnessing his parents' death, Bruce learns the art of fighting to confront injustice. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city.Katie Holmes, though pretty, was somewhat forgettable. There was never a more perfect Alfred than Michael Caine. I liked the "fear of bats" making Bruce decide to be a bat man.
- DirectorShawn KuStarsNicolas CageNoah Le GrosKarolina WydraAn ex-enforcer for a local crime syndicate has vowed to enact retribution on his mob bosses after 19 years of wrongful imprisonment. The only thing diverting his violent plans is a new found relationship to his beloved son.I don't care what people say about his acting, I like Nicholas Cage. Not really sure what Tank or Dragon did to piss him off so bad, and it was unsettling to see him shoot the unarmed Tank. He was called an ugly old man by a whore he didn't want.
- DirectorWoody AllenStarsTimothée ChalametElle FanningLiev SchreiberA young couple arrives in New York for a weekend where they are met with bad weather and a series of adventures.Woody Allen, despite his past, just gets it. His movies are always entertaining and never trite. Also got a chance to see Selena Gomez, her voice is a little rough though.
- DirectorChristie Will WolfStarsJen LilleyJason CermakLee MajorsVeterinarian Dr. Carly Monroe (Jen Lilley) falls for Dan Landis (Jason Cermak), the owner of a dog shelter she frequently visits. Unfortunately, Dan is about to marry his glamorous girlfriend and move to New York City. The best thing about this movie was seeing the reunion between Lindsay Wagner and Lee Majors.
- DirectorMichael TyburskiStarsPeter SarsgaardRashida JonesTony RevoloriA successful "house tuner" in New York City, who calibrates the sound in people's homes in order to adjust their moods, meets a client with a problem he can't solve. This movie had an interesting concept, but a horrible adaptation. The star actor had less energy than Sleepy Joe Biden.
- DirectorAli LeRoiStarsSteven SilverSpencer NevilleNicola Peltz BeckhamA wealthy, Nigerian-American teen is pulled over by police, shot to death and immediately awakens, reliving the same day over and over, trapped in a terrifying time loop - forced to confront difficult truths about his life and himself.Again, a great concept, but poorly executed. The gay couple was not very likeable, although the gay son's dad was.
- DirectorFrank MarshallStarsPaul WalkerJason BiggsBruce GreenwoodBrutal cold forces two Antarctic explorers to leave their team of sled dogs behind as they fend for their survival.Wasn't quite sure what happened to the other three dogs, other than the one who couldn't free himself from the chain. Well paced movie, likeable characters, great scenery, and heartwarming. Saw on the return flight from Dallas (origin in Belize City)
- DirectorJohn FordStarsJohn WaynePedro ArmendárizHarry Carey Jr.Three outlaws on the run risk their freedom and their lives to return a newborn to civilization. The idea of glorifying bank robbers, even though one of them was John Wayne; didn't sit well with me. I think I saw the origin of the goofy Mexcian hat (the Mexican in the story was wearing one.).
- DirectorTerrence MalickStarsMartin SheenSissy SpacekWarren OatesAn impressionable teenage girl from a dead-end town, and her older greaser boyfriend, embark on a killing spree in the South Dakota Badlands.Amazing how much Charlie Sheen looks like the younger version of his father. Also very interesting that the song Badlands and more importantly, Nebraska, where directly inspired by this movie. They did change the official narrative whereas somehow Sissy Spacek espcapes prison in the end.
- DirectorRobert WiseStarsRobert MitchumBarbara Bel GeddesRobert PrestonUnemployed cowhand Jim Garry is hired by his dishonest friend Tate Riling as muscle in a dispute between homesteaders and cattleman John Lufton.Film noir means filmed in mostly dark locales. I guess this fits the bill. I never realized what sad eyes Robert Mitchum has.
- DirectorJohn FordStarsRichard WidmarkCarroll BakerKarl MaldenThe Cheyenne, tired of broken U.S. government promises, head for their ancestral lands but a sympathetic cavalry officer is tasked to bring them back to their reservation. It starts out with an "overlude", which is basically just a bunch of dramatic music. Funny fake looking stunt where a man jumps on a horse riding behind another man. Karl Malden plays a wide eyed drunk general, and there is a largely undeveloped love story between Richard Widmark and the Quaker.
- DirectorDanny GarciaStarsBrian JonesAnita PallenbergTerry O'NeillA documentary about the events in the life of Rolling Stone legend Brian Jones that lead to his death.A convincing therory is put forth that Brian did not die due to "drugs and drink" in his swimming pool, but by a deliberate murder commited in a nearby fresh water trough. The idea that the other Stones, or Allen Klein had something to do with it was largely debunked.
- DirectorRichard FleischerStarsRichard AttenboroughJudy GeesonJohn HurtWhat happened to the women at 10 Rillington Place? The story of British serial killer John Christie, who committed most or all of his crimes in the titular terraced house, and the miscarriage of justice involving Timothy Evans. That murdering guy was creepy as hell. His little at home inhaler , "breathe deep now", was also eerie. And the London flat made my Colton place look like the Taj Mahal.
- DirectorBudd BoetticherStarsRandolph ScottGail RussellLee MarvinA former sheriff blames himself for his wife's death during a Wells Fargo robbery and vows to track down and kill the seven men responsible. This might be the first Lee Marvin movie I've ever seen. He reminded me a lot of that farm hand on Dallas, Ray Krebbs. Masters of course, dies in the end, and Stride gets the babe.
- DirectorRobert BentonStarsJeff BridgesBarry BrownJim DavisA God-fearing Ohio boy dodging the Civil War draft arrives in St. Joseph, MO where he joins up with a hardscrabble group of like runaways heading westIt gave me sort of a Clockwork Orange vibe which at first I didn't like. Jim Davis from Dallas makes an appearance as the Marshall. I thought that was him. Dixon's transition to stick up artist at the end was a bit rushed.
- DirectorTom LaughlinStarsTom LaughlinDelores TaylorClark HowatEx-Green Beret hapkido expert saves wild horses from being slaughtered for dog food and helps protect a desert "freedom school" for runaway. So this is where One Tin Soldier comes from. "one of the all time classic B movies" (Sid Judicious).
- DirectorJohn FordStarsJames StewartRichard WidmarkShirley JonesA corrupt marshal is pressured by his army friend into negotiating the release of white captives of the Comanches, but finds that their reintegration into society has its consequences.Interesting to see Jimmy Stewart in a less goodly "aw shucks" role. He was more a less a mercenary throughout the film. Interesting to see a young Shirley Jones as well.
- DirectorAndrew V. McLaglenStarsKirk DouglasRobert MitchumRichard WidmarkIn 1843, a former U.S. Senator leads a wagon train of settlers to Oregon, but his megalomania leads to growing dissatisfaction with his leadership.Robert Mitchum seemed to be almost a silent shadow. Russell was the stern taskmaster who got his rope cut in the end. Showing how pretty a pre Flying Nun Sally Field really was.
- DirectorDestin Daniel CrettonStarsMichael B. JordanJamie FoxxBrie LarsonWorld-renowned civil rights defense attorney Bryan Stevenson works to free a wrongly condemned death row prisoner.Seen with JaC and her mother at Mikes' place while he was away. Not sure I believe the film's premise that 1 out of 9 death row inmates were somehow falsely imprisoned. But it was tough to watch an execution. I was literally praying they wouldn't actually show the electrocution.
- DirectorJustin KurzelStarsMichael FassbenderMarion CotillardJack MadiganMacbeth, the Thane of Glamis, receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders his king and takes the throne for himself. The cinematography did a great job of capturing just how cold and bleak Scotland is, yet at the same time, so etherally beautiful. I followed along with Spark Notes, and found out that the sound and fury signifying nothing quote comes from this play, NOT Hamlet.
- DirectorJim JarmuschStarsJohnny DeppGary FarmerCrispin GloverOn the run after murdering a man, accountant William Blake encounters a strange Native American man named Nobody who prepares him for his journey into the spiritual world. The black and white monochrome, combined with the forest scenery and the Neil Young guitar soundtrack playing throughout made for a powerful combination. Also, the William Blake references didn't hurt either. OVerall, a very powerful film.
