- DirectorMartin PittsStarsGregg AllmanDickey BettsButch TrucksRecorded in September of 1991, originally for Japanese TV, The Allman Brothers Band's beloved Live At Great Woods showcases the classic American rock band reaching a new generation of audiences. Original band members Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe were joined by new guitarist Warren Haynes, bassist Allen Woody and percussionist Marc Quiñones in one of the most powerful lineups in the group's history. This set - recorded before a crowd of nearly 20,000 adoring fans at the Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts in Massachusetts - features a top-notch set of fan favorites, with a fiery acoustic mini-set included for good measure. This release of Live At Great Woods fills a crucial gap in The Allman Brothers Band's videography: after years of demand, fans can experience the original longform video version of this concert (previously only available on VHS and LaserDisc), with no interruption of the main feature. Finally, fans have nothing standing between them and the top-notch performances of this set.

- DirectorFrançois LamoureuxPierre LamoureuxStarsChrissie HyndeMartin ChambersJames Walbourne"Live In London" is a live performance masterpiece that captures The Pretenders at the top of their game. If you saw them live on their 2009 tour, you'll know what I'm talking about. You owe it to yourself to get this program as a reminder of just how amazing this band is on the road. "Live In London" succeeds where The Pretenders' studio albums fail. They are one of those rare bands that truly does sound better when they're playing in front of an audience -- an intimate small theater crowd here. With all due respect to original guitarist James Honeyman Scott and bassist Pete Farndon, The Pretenders latest lineup is the best Chrissie Hynde has ever staged. With the steady pounding of original drummer Martin Chambers, newcomers James Walbourne on guitar, Nick Wilkinson on bass and Eric Heywood on pedal steel rock from start to finish, revitalizing Pretenders' classics like "Message of Love" and "Kid," while adding new ones like "Boots of Chinese Plastic" to the playlist. You'll be blown away by Walbourne's electrifying guitar work. It starts with the first licks of the opener "Chinese Plastic," scorches through "Rosalee," and climaxes with the show-stopper "Precious." Walbourne delivers pure, unadulterated, raw, rip-snorting rock 'n' roll. His on-stage chemistry with Hynde is self-evident. As per usual, Hynde's vocals are impeccable, showing great range, dynamics and emotion, equally adept at punk rockers like "The Wait" and ballads like "I'll Stand By You." This woman has earned the right to work the stage with the swagger of a rock star. She is it. The direction and camera work throughout "Live In London" give the viewer the perspective of being on stage with The Pretenders. Tight crops interspersed with effective wide angles make one feel like he can count the streaks of mascara multiplying on Hynde's face and see the beads of sweat building on Chambers' brow as the night rocks on.

- 20121h 37mNot Rated8.4 (106)VideoStarsMuddy WatersJohn PrimerLovie LeeThe Rolling Stones join Muddy Waters' band on stage in 1981, at the Checkerboard Lounge in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood. Muddy, whose health was declining, dying 1 ½ years later, is sitting down, playing a rather desultory set when the Rolling Stones finally lurch into the club. This seems to fire up Muddy who plays standing up the rest of the show, but needs to urge the Stones, who idolized Muddy, to join him. One by one they do. Muddy beseeches Mick Jagger, who seems the drunkest of the Stones, coming up last to sing with Muddy on several tunes. Guitarist Buddy Guy, who was an owner of the club, joins the group, along with harpist Junior Wells and a fiery Lefty Dizz. The Stones were playing in Rosemont, Illinois on the Tattoo You tour, and this was their night off. The film of the set appeared immediately on bootlegs, but was not issued on DVD until 2012.

- StarsJoss StoneMind, Body & Soul Sessions features R&B phenomena Joss Stone live in concert in 2004. Recorded at New York's Irving Plaza, the show begins with an introduction by the legendary Betty Wright, who co-produced the Brit's stunning debut, The Soul Sessions, and co-wrote several songs on the second, Mind, Body & Soul. The barefoot singer then gets down to business, performing a solid selection of material from both albums, including "Super Duper Love" from the first and "You Had Me" from the follow-up. Stone receives strong support from a tight band, distinguished by powerful drummer Caesar Griffin. As a performer, she's vivacious and her soulful voice is in fine form, but she may want to tone down the giggles in the years to come. That said, Stone is still just a teenager--as hard as that may be to believe while listening to the sophisticated recordings of this old soul.
