- Mariya Poroshina is a noted Russian stage and film actress, famous for her portrayal of Svetlana - the female lead in the vampire franchise 'Night Watch' and 'Day Watch'.
Mariya was born in Moscow, Soviet Union. Her mother was opera director and her father was a folk singer. Her parents divorced, and young Mariya was brought up by her stepfather. She started taking ballet and singing classes at the age of 5. By the time she finished school, her future had been settled: encouraged by her parents she attended Shchukin Drama School. When still a student she married actor Yuri Kutsenko. The marriage lasted 5 years and produced a daughter. From the early 1990s she has appeared regularly on TV and had small parts in B-movies. Her stage career has been more successful with dozens of leads in highly acclaimed productions of both classic and modern plays.
Mariya's breakthrough as a film actress came with Night Watch - an adaptation of a vampire book series. Although the film polarised critics and got mixed reviews, the story of the never-ending battle between the good and the evil set in the present day Moscow became a sort of a cultural phenomenon in Russia and set a box office record.
In the film Mariya's character is seduced by a person who happened to be portrayed by her former husband Gosha Kutsenko. After the film release Mariya was busy answering only one question: "How does it feel working with an ex-husband?" Her reply was: "We are friends and we are actors, you see... Besides, he is the father of my daughter". Day Watch premiered in January 2006 and was a smash hit.
Outside of her film career, Poroshina is a member of the troupe of Sergei Vinogradov in Moscow, Russia. She is in her second marriage to actor Ilya Drevnov. - Actress

In 1998, Yekaterina Rednikova received a Nika award (the "Russian Oscar") for her performance in, "The Thief" by Pavel Chukrai. This was her first lead role. Yekaterina traveled with "The Thief" to Los Angeles, where it was nominated for "Best Foreign Language Picture" by the Academy. This role, for which she was called, "the Russian Liv Ullman" by Italian critics at the Venice film festival, led Katerina to pursue an international career.
Rednikova was born in Moscow, the daughter of an engineer, Valeriy Rednikov, and an accountant, Yelena Rednikova. Her older brother, Dmitriy, was a physicist and worked on the aftermath of the Chernobyl catastrophe before becoming a screenwriter.
Yekaterina stepped on a stage for the first time when she was 6 and played two small roles with one of the biggest theater companies in Moscow: Lenkom. One of the accomplished actors with whom she shared the stage wrote her an autograph that changed her life and encouraged her to become an actress.
Yekaterina entered the very competitive Russian Theater Academy (GITIS) at the age of 17. After graduating from the Theater Academy, she worked with several theater companies, more often in American classics such as "A Streetcar named Desire" and "Beyond the Horizon" than in Russian plays, which is ironic since Yekaterina is a relative of classic Russian playwright Anton Chekov.
After "The Thief", Yekaterina played lead roles in movies in Russia, Turkey, Great Britain and the United States. She was nominated for "best Turkish actress" at the Turkish Critic Awards in 2000 for her performance in the Turkish movie, "Balalayka", which was quite an accomplishment since she did not speak Turkish before arriving on set. In 2005, Yekaterina played the female lead opposite Daniel Craig in the BBC production, "Archangel".
Since 2003, Yekaterina has been living in Moscow and in Los Angeles. At the moment, she is preparing for the role of Raisa Gorbachev in the upcoming project, "Raisa", based on the life of former Russian President Michael Gorbachev.- Actress

Russian-born actress, Svetlana Metkina, embodies the essence of grace and talent. Her credits to date include films such as Bobby (2006) and Mini's First Time (2006). The international tale of Svetlana's success story began at age 11 in the Moscow theater world, growing from there to a string of European films and then stretching inter-continentally, eventually lander her at the center of today's film making circles.
Irrefutably talented, natural, and with stunning looks, Svetlana followed a charmed path to her first US feature film Slingshot (2005), starring opposite David Arquette, Thora Birch and Balthazar Getty. Though she always spoke English fluently, Metkina worked especially hard to bring her skillful acting into English for the first time. Thriving in the collaborative environment of this film, Metkina enjoyed the enthusiasm of the film's first-time director Jay Alaimo. Metkina's character had originally been scripted as a man, but they turned the character into a tough independent woman, a jewel fence going by the moniker "Fast Bobby." The film premiered at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival.
Next in the cards for Metkina, "Mini's First Time" featured her in a superb cast alongside Luke Wilson, Alec Baldwin, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jeff Goldblum and Nikki Reed, whom Metkina found "hilariously funny." Metkina plays the delicious part of Russian trophy wife "Jelena." The sexy darkly comic thriller premiered at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival.
Svetlana's creativity in developing her characters is illuminated by a painstaking thoroughness. She contemplates every aspect of a character step by step. Stories based on classical literature or important historical events are Svetlana's absolute favorite type of films of which to be a part.
Thus, her next film, Bobby (2006), was a dream part for the international beauty. A fictional account of the events surrounding the assassination of Bobby Kennedy, the film also stars William H. Macy, Sharon Stone, Elijah Wood, Lindsay Lohan, Helen Hunt, Freddy Rodriguez, Heather Graham, Christian Slater, Demi Moore and Sir Anthony Hopkins. The experience of filming "Bobby" was summed up by Metkina in one word, "paradise."
Achieving so much in only a few years, Svetlana reminisces fondly of her first acting experiences on stage. Her very first role as an actress, at age 11, was in a children's theater's production of a play similar to CATS, only it was about dogs. Recalling how she played a "shaggy white dog," Svetlana's youthful heart reveals an innocence and openness-to the world, to her acting-in a way that is incredibly endearing to her fans, her co-stars and anyone she meets, in any language.
Svetlana cherishes theater as much as film. At Moscow State University, she studied Theatre, History, Literature, Music, Art and Philosophy. She also attended Shchukin Acting School of Maly Theatre in Moscow, Russia. Following these studies early in her career she graced the screen of several Russian and European films. Shestarred in the thriller, 300 Years Ago; delivered a touching portrayal as Ailia in the film Family; and starred in The Second Front (2005) a Russian-made thriller set during WWII, also starring Ron Perlman, Craig Sheffer and Todd Field.
Embracing travel and culture, Svetlana speaks a number of languages and splits her time between Europe, Russia and America, where she especially revels in the differences between America's east and west coasts. Dynamic and multi-faceted, Svetlana paints and writes short stories as a hobby. The single greatest inspiration in her life has always been her family.
Svetlana Metkina, also known as Lana Litwak, married Bold Films producer Michel Litvak, and the couple at one point resided in Los Angeles.- Anna Banshchikova was born on 24 January 1975 in Leningrad, RSFSR, USSR [now St. Petersburg, Russia]. Milla Jovovich is a Ukrainian-American actress, supermodel, fashion designer, singer and public figure, who was on the cover of more than a hundred magazines, and starred in such films as The Fifth Element (1997), Ultraviolet (2006), and the Resident Evil (2002) franchise.
Milica Bogdanovna Jovovich was born on December 17, 1975 in Kyiv, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union (now in Ukraine). Her Serbian father, Bogdan Jovovich, was a medical doctor in Kyiv. There, he met her mother, Galina Jovovich (née Loginova), a Russian actress. At the age of 5, in 1981, Milla emigrated with her parents from the Soviet Union, moving first to London, UK, then to Sacramento, California, and eventually settled in Los Angeles. There her parents worked as house cleaners for the household of director Brian De Palma. Her parents separated, and eventually divorced, because her father was arrested and spent several years in prison.
Young Milla Jovovich was brought up by her single mother in Los Angeles. In addition to her native Ukrainian, she also speaks Russian and English. However, in spite of her cosmopolitan background, Milla was ostracized by some of her classmates, as a kid who emigrated from the Soviet Union amidst the paranoia of the Cold War. Many emotional scars had affected her behavior, but she eventually emerged as a resilient, multi-talented, albeit rebellious and risk-taking girl. She was coached by her actress mother since her childhood, first at home, then studied music, ballet, and acting in Los Angeles.
She shot to international fame after she was spotted by the photographer Richard Avedon at the age of 11, and was featured in Revlon's "Most Unforgettable Women in the World" advertisements, and on the cover of the Italian fashion magazine 'Lei' which was her first cover shoot. She made her first professional model contract at the age of 12, and soon made it to the cover of 'The Face', 'Vogue', 'Cosmopolitan' and many other magazines. In 1994, she appeared on the cover of 'High Times' in the UK, at the age of 18. The total number of her magazine covers worldwide was over one hundred by 2004, and keeps counting. In 2004, she made $10.4 million, becoming the highest paid supermodel in the world.
Milla appeared in ad campaigns for Chanel, Versace, Emporio Armani, Donna Karen, DKNY, Celine, P&K, H&H, and continues her role as the worldwide spokesperson and model for L'Oreal. Thanks to their continued success with Milla, Giorgio Armani chose her to be the face of his fragrance, Night. In addition to Armani's fragrance, Milla was the face for Calvin Klein's Obsession and Christian Dior's Poison for over 10 years and has most recently become the new face for Donna Karan's Cashmere Mist fragrance, which debuts in August 2009. Milla continues to shoot with the fashion industry's most sought after photographers, including Peter Lindbergh, Mario Sorrenti, Craig McDean and Inez & Vinoodh.
Milla made her acting debut in the Disney Channel movie The Night Train to Kathmandu (1988) and she made guest appearances on television series including Married... with Children (1987) (in 1989 as a French exchange student), Paradise (1988) and Parker Lewis Can't Lose (1990). In 1988, at age 12, she made her film debut credited as Milla in a supporting role in Two Moon Junction (1988) by writer/director Zalman King. During the 1980s and early 1990s, she played several supporting roles as a teenage actress in film and on television, then starred in Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991). In 1997, she co-starred opposite Bruce Willis in the sci-fi blockbuster The Fifth Element (1997), then she starred as the title character of The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999).
In the early 2000s, Milla had a few years of uncertainty in her acting career due to the uneven quality of her films, as well as some hectic events in her private life. She appeared with Mel Gibson in Wim Wenders' The Million Dollar Hotel (2000) which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival. She went on to co-star with Wes Bentley and Sarah Polley in The Claim (2000) and in Ben Stiller's spoof of the world of models and high-fashion, Zoolander (2001).
Milla achieved box office success in the U.S. and around the world with the action-packed thriller, Resident Evil (2002), based on the wildly popular video game, Resident Evil. It was written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Milla reprised her role as the zombie slaying heroine, Alice, in Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010), Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), and again in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016) A seventh resident Evil movie is in pre-production.
She received glowing reviews opposite Oscar-winner Adrien Brody and Illeana Douglas in Dummy (2002) which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. In the spring of 2006, Milla returned to the big screen as action heroine, Violet, in the futuristic film Ultraviolet (2006) directed by Kurt Wimmer.
Focusing on her personal sense of style, her love of fashion led Milla and her friend and business partner, Carmen Hawk, to launch their Jovovich-Hawk clothing line, which achieved instant acclaim in the domestic and international fashion world. The fresh, unique line garnered the attention of red carpet watchers and fashion magazines, including American Vogue, who featured Jovovich-Hawk on their coveted list of "10 Things to Watch Out for in 2005." A student of voice and guitar since she was very young, Milla began writing songs for her first record at the age of 15.
Her first album, "The Divine Comedy", was released by EMI Records in 1994. Informed by her experiences as a child growing up as a Russian emigrant in the Red-bashing Reagan era, the introspective European-folkish debut drew favorable reviews for Milla's songwriting and performing. She continues to write music, and has had songs featured on several film soundtracks. She has been writing music and lyrics to her song-demos, playing her guitar and sampling other sounds from her computer, and allowing free download and remix of her songs from her website.
Charitable work also plays a major part in Milla's life. She has served as Master of Ceremonies and co-chaired with Elizabeth Taylor for the amfAR and Cinema Against AIDS event at the Venice Film Festival, and has been heavily involved with The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, as well as The Wildlands Project.
For many years Milla Jovovich has been maintaining a healthier lifestyle, practicing yoga and meditation, trying to avoid junk food, and cooking for herself. Since she was a little girl, Milla has been writing a private diary, a habit she learned from her mother. She has been keeping a record of many good and bad facts of her life, her travels, her relationships, and all important ideas and events in her career, planning eventually to publish an autobiography. After dissolution of her two previous marriages, Milla Jovovich became engaged to film director Paul W.S. Anderson; their daughter, Ever Anderson, was born on November 3, 2007. Natalia Shmarenkova, wife of Kyiv Post publisher Mohammad Zahoor, is 2008 Mrs. World. She also has a singing and acting career and is excited about her upcoming role in a Hollywood movie.
For someone crowned Mrs. World 2008, Natalia Shmarenkova's demeanor is refreshingly devoid of elitism and celebrity arrogance. In Ukraine, she is more known as a pop singer under the stage name of Kamaliya. She hopes the world will know her soon as a movie actress.
Shmarenkova is the wife of new Kyiv Post owner and publisher, Mohammad Zahoor. Outside of business circles, he was the lesser-known of the pair, at least until he started spending some of his fortune to buy real estate and media companies.
Married in 2003, the couple has lofty ambitions, talent and the financial means to achieve them.
A professional musician, singer, model and rising actress, she did not get it all just by marrying the right man. Before meeting Zahoor, she worked on her own career and racked up awards at state festivals. Although never topping the charts or filling stadiums, she has an audience appreciative of her soprano and waist-deep blond hair.
Winning the Mrs. World beauty pageant for married women in 2008 was one of the highest points in her career. "I wanted to show women in Ukraine that being married does not mean it's the end of it all. We can always be beautiful," Kamaliya said. "Moreover, the contest is about family values, self-accomplishment and helping those less fortunate."
She was born to a military family in far-off Chita Oblast in Russia. When Kamaliya turned three, her father was deployed in Budapest, thus starting their lifelong wandering around the world. "We never really had a home," said Inna Shmarenkova, Kamaliya's mother. "So we had enough of this feeling of nostalgia and now want to be in one place."
Shmarenkova never detached herself from her pre-school daughter from the moment she walked her to the vocals studio for the first time. A professional singer herself, she remains Kamaliya's producer, agent and sidekick to this day.
Failing to strike powerful friendships in turbulent 1990s, they did not secure mainstream fame. After the fall of the Soviet Union, newly minted millionaires not only ran steel mills and grain factories. They also made inroads into show business as well.
Exuberant and spontaneous, Kamaliya does not seem to be put off by the fickle fortunes of her past. Beauty contests and film roles are good enough omens for long-term prospects on stage.
The couple could be based anywhere - Russia, England, the United States or even Pakistan - but they have chosen to remain in Ukraine.
Talkative and energetic, she appears eager for a big break in her career - on the big screen or on TV. She started filming a pilot TV program "Coffee with Kamaliya," in which she interviews celebrities about their climb to fame. "The idea is to show younger people that popularity does not come by accident but is rather a product of hard work." She also plans to shoot another program about charity.Ukraine- Mariya Semyonova was born on 17 September 1977 in Former USSR. Olga Kurylenko is a Ukrainian-French actress and model, went from sharing a cramped flat with her aunt, uncle, grandparents and cousin to starring as a Bond girl opposite Daniel Craig.
She was born Olga Konstantinovna Kurylenko on November 14, 1979, in Berdyansk, Ukraine, Soviet Union. Her mother, Marina Alyabysheva, divorced her father, Konstantin Kurylenko, soon after her birth. After the divorce her mother struggled to survive as an art teacher. Young Olga was brought up by her mother and her grandmother, Raisa. During her youth Olga had the humbling experience of living in poverty; she had no choice but to wear rags and had to darn the holes on her sweater. During her years in Ukraine she studied art and languages and spent seven years studying piano at a local school of music in Berdyansk. She also went to a ballet studio until 13.
At age 13 Olga and her mother made a trip to Moscow. There she was spotted by an agent, who approached her at a subway station and offered her a job as a model. Initially Olga's mother was suspicious, but she checked the agent's credentials and eventually allowed Olga to accept training as a model in Moscow, which turned out to be a good career choice.
By age 16 she was ready for the next step. She moved to Paris, learned French in six months and was signed by the Madison agency. At age 18 she appeared on the cover of Glamour, and in short order graced the covers of Elle, Madame Figaro, Marie Claire, and Vogue. She also became the face of Lejaby lingerie, Bebe clothing, Clarins and Helena Rubinstein cosmetic companies.
In 1999 Olga married French photographer Cedric Van Mol, but divorced him 3-1/2 years later. One day Olga presented herself to an acting agency. Eventually she swapped the catwalk for the movie screen, and her acting career took off. In 2005 she made her film debut as "Iris", a sensual beauty, in The Ring Finger (2005), by director Diane Bertrand.
Olga's cinematic roles have been notably steamy, and her natural beauty and explicit nudity attracted the attention of the male audiences. She appeared opposite Elijah Wood in Paris, I Love You (2006) and as "Sofia" in The Snake (2006), then co-starred as Russian beauty "Nika Boronina" opposite Timothy Olyphant in Hitman (2007). She also appeared as "Mina Harud" in the indie surveillance-thriller Tyranny (2008). On Christmas Eve 2007, Olga was offered to play what will become her biggest hit: co-starring as "Camille", the Bond girl, opposite Daniel Craig in Quantum of Solace (2008), a sequel to Casino Royale (2006).
With the international success as Bond Girl, Olga also made appearances on various TV productions in Russia and Ukraine. In 2012, Olga Kurylenko was cast as Julia, supporting role in the Sci-Fi adventure Oblivion (2013) opposite Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman.Ukraine-France- Actress
