- DirectorGraeme HarperStarsColin BakerPeter DavisonNicola BryantChellak and his men attack Jek's base. The Dr. crash-lands the ship, and must escape from his captors to find the antidote to the Spectrox poisoning and save Peri. He does so, but at a staggering cost.An incredible regeneration story. The direction is excellent and all of the production value is brilliant for the time. The acting is all superb. The Doctor, Peri, Sharaz and every single side character is well developed. The dialogue is great and the depths traveled by certain characters leads to a brake-neck pace and a fascinating plot.
- DirectorPeter GrimwadeStarsPeter DavisonBeryl ReidMatthew WaterhouseTegan is captured by the Cybermen, allowing the Cyber Leader to use her as a hostage and force the Doctor to do his bidding. Left behind on the ship, Adric attempts to prevent it from plummeting to Earth as time is running out.The best Cybermen story. The Doctor is pushed to his limits in an intense way. The characters are all great, with real stakes and consequences. The pacing is brilliant and the music, editing and direction are all really solid as well.
- DirectorPeter MoffattStarsPeter DavisonSarah SuttonJanet FieldingMawdryn presents the Doctor with an ultimatum; give up his remaining regenerations or leave the ship and suffer the consequences. Meanwhile Turlough's stupidity puts the two Brigadiers at risk of meeting, angering the Black Guardian. The way that time travel and regeneration are explored are really interesting. The portrayals of The Brigadier and Turlogh are excellent. The plot is unique and engaging. The production design, makeup and music are incredible. Whilst the pacing struggles at part 4, it still delivers as an excellent story.
- DirectorMatthew RobinsonStarsPeter DavisonJanet FieldingMark StricksonWhile Davros looks into solving a small problem offered up by the Movellans, the Daleks have not overlooked the Time Lords for all their years of interest and attention paid them, hoping to make of the Doctor and his companions emissaries of their appreciation, in order to thank them all to the fullest and permanently. The episode is well paced with great cinematography. The effects work all holds up and the Doctor and Davros both have excellent moments. The writing is bold and is willing to take the story in a very interesting direction. Some of the writing has plot holes and excessive sequences, but overall it's great story.
- DirectorPeter MoffattStarsPeter DavisonMatthew WaterhouseJanet FieldingWith Tegan and Richard under alien control, and the manor sealed against anyone leaving or entering, it's a question whether or not the Doctor can get to London before the Terileptils release their improved strain of black death upon the world. The direction and acting are excellent. The plot, whilst poorly paced is engaging. Some of the characters are quite annoying, however the treatment of the Doctor and the timeline are well handled.
- DirectorFiona CummingStarsPeter DavisonMark StricksonPeter WyngardeWhile the Master, victim of his own attempt to improve his TCE weapon, seeks restoration through Sarn's numismaton gas, the truth of Turlough's past comes out at last, though to guarantee the safety of his brother and the Sarn people, Turlough must consider a great personal sacrifice.Underrated. Kamelion is a really interesting companion in this episode and his dynamic with the Master is well handled. The acting is solid all round. The production design great and the direction is really good. Some of the episode is dumb in it's writing and I can't buy Peri as a companion, however overall, it's still an engaging story.
- DirectorFiona CummingStarsPeter DavisonJanet FieldingSarah SuttonEscaping from jail and rescued from execution by Tanha, the Doctor escapes to find Dojjen. Will he finally be able to defeat the Mara? The effects are great, the acting is great and the plot is pretty good, however poorly paced. It's great seeing Tegan finally given something to do and her moments with the Doctor are great. The editing and dialogue are decent, however nothing special.
- DirectorPeter MoffattJohn Nathan-TurnerPennant RobertsStarsPeter DavisonJon PertweePatrick TroughtonThe Doctor and his previous incarnations are brought to the Death Zone on his homeworld Gallifrey as part of a renegade Time Lord's scheme.Really enjoyable. It's great seeing these characters return, in a well directed, well paced story, that contributes to the lore in an interesting way, with various plot turns. It is hampered by a lack of Doctor interactions and some lazy writing at the start, but the story still very much delivers.
- DirectorPeter GrimwadeStarsPeter DavisonRichard ToddNerys HughesLed by the voice of the Mara inside Aris, the Kinda begin their attack on the dome. The Doctor, Todd, and an awakened Tegan attempt to stop the two sides destroying each other and hatch a plan to defeat the snake-like Mara. The villain is unique and the plot is interesting. Some of the story is very cheap and goofy, in particular the acting, however the characters are good, and Peter Davison properly steps into the role here.
- DirectorRon JonesStarsPeter DavisonJanet FieldingMark StricksonThe Doctor tries to deal with the Tractator's cunning plan, despite Turlough's best intervention. They discover the splintered TARDIS in the tunnels beneath the planet's surface, but how will they put it together again? The story is unimaginative and poorly shot, however all of the human characters are interesting and well acted. The dialogue, whilst stilted is still interesting and the plot is well paced. The production design is good, but it feels missing on a deeper level.
- DirectorFiona CummingStarsPeter DavisonJanet FieldingMark StricksonAs the race nears it's end and the Black Guardian's victory seems all but certain, his counterpart, the White Guardian offers Turlough one final choice. The direction and production design are great. The acting is good and the dialogue is good, however the writing is cliched and poorly paced. The editing is lack luster as well.
- DirectorMichael Owen MorrisStarsPeter DavisonJanet FieldingMark StricksonThe Malus, an alien that's purely evil, needs the civil war re-enactments to become authentic so it can feed off the psychic energy of dying and embattled men and fully revive. Not if the Doctor can derail things, of course.Solid story. The plot, whilst hard to follow and poorly paced, has a great atmosphere and good direction. The acting and editing are good, however the dialogue and character moments are quite forgettable.
- DirectorJohn BlackStarsPeter DavisonStratford JohnsMatthew WaterhouseThe Doctor needs to stop Adric from siding with Monarch and get Bigon quietly restored (who was mechanically lobotomized for previously siding with the Doctor). The ship then gets turned into one big multi-cultural dance party so the Doctor can make a desperate leap for the TARDIS, floating just outside the spaceship, and stop Monarch's plans for Earth.A really enjoyable story. The story has a really unique plot, some good dialogue and good pacing, however the direction and writing let it down.
- DirectorRon JonesStarsPeter DavisonSarah SuttonJanet FieldingThe High Council creates a distraction so the Doctor and Nyssa can find Omega on Earth and prevent his reentry into our universe. The acting in this episode is great, the plot moves in interesting ways and the direction is pretty good, however the writing largely lets it down. In particular terrible pacing and a lack luster finale. The dialogue and direction are fine, so overall, it's a badly told story, that does well on a technical level.
- DirectorMary RidgeStarsPeter DavisonSarah SuttonJanet FieldingIn attempting to reopen a doorway into the TARDIS, Turlough activates Terminus' automated fuel-jettisoning sequence. The first time this sequence was engaged, it flung its first of two massive loads of unstable fuel into the distant past, producing the Big Bang that created the universe. This second sequence - if the Doctor can't find a way to shut it down - will release a second massive load, the explosion of which will entirely negate the effects of the first. This story is very forgettable, with little new or exciting as an episode. The direction is mediocre and the dialogue is fine. The plot itself is good and Nyssa's exit is well handled, however poor pacing and low production value lessen the effect.
- DirectorFiona CummingStarsPeter DavisonJanet FieldingSarah SuttonThe Portreeve of Castrovalva is revealed to be the Master in disguise who, as the Doctor discovers, created Castrovalva himself to trap his newly regenerated arch-enemy.A decent first episode. The Master is great in this story. I like the additions to the lore, however the pacing and direction are very sub par and the episode fails to make me connect with The Doctor.
- DirectorTony VirgoStarsPeter DavisonJanet FieldingMark StricksonWith The Master revealed, two questions remain: Who is impersonating King John and why?The plot of this episode is quite interesting, albeit predictable. The Master has a bad disguise, but is still well portrayed. The Doctor does a lot of out of character stuff, and the story ends badly, however the dialogue and direction are both good, so overall it's not too bad.
- DirectorRon JonesStarsPeter DavisonSarah SuttonJanet FieldingAnn escapes her Harlequin-clad abductor but it's The Doctor whom she accuses. Strangled bodies mount and The Doctor is arrested along with "accessories" Tegan, Nyssa and Adric. Will Lady Cranleigh's secret come out?The first part is 10 mins of cricket and 15 of a dinner party. The pacing sucks and the plot is completely skimmed over. This story is unambitious and just doesn't fit in, however the dialogue and direction are good.
- DirectorRon JonesStarsPeter DavisonSarah SuttonJanet FieldingIncorporating the Xeraphin race into his TARDIS power system, the Master has won, but technical obstacles and a bit of sabotage from friendlies give the Doctor a bargaining chip for the lives of the hijacked and enslaved airline passengers and crews - with maybe, just maybe, some hope for the Xeraphin race as well.Too bold. The master has a good plan, but the bad effects and weird storytelling let down. The story skims over Adric's death and does nothing with it and the large quantity of characters muddle the story.
- DirectorPennant RobertsStarsPeter DavisonJanet FieldingMark StricksonWith Silurians in control of the base, Icthar reveals his plan for a final solution to Earth's human problem, which presents the Doctor a great moral dilemma.Horrible. The production value is cheap, the direction is terrible and the whole thing is overlit. The pacing drags, none of the characters are interesting and the dialogue is hilariously bad.
