Movies that Rotten Tomatoes has wrong
Hey, it's me again. A lot of times when I go on Rotten Tomatoes, I agree with whatever score the movies have on it. Other times, not so much. Here's a list of films whose Rotten Tomatoes ratings I strongly disagree with. There has to be at least 15% between my score and Rotten Tomatoes' score. They start from lowest difference between my score and Rotten Tomatoes score, and progressively the gap widens. Hope you enjoy.

To be fair, Unfriended isn't a disaster. It has some clever ideas and is told in an interesting way. But the script is garbage. Nobody talks like a person, the portrayal of cyber bullying is borderline laughable at just how ignorant it is, and parts of the movie make less than zero sense. And don't get me started on it being "scary". Why does the critical consensus of this movie say it is "surprisingly scary"? Is a bunch of teenagers screaming and dying in stupid ways considered scary now? Honestly. Unfriended isn't a terrible movie, but it sure shouldn't have any score over forty percent. - DirectorDavid FincherStarsJesse EisenbergAndrew GarfieldJustin TimberlakeAs Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg creates the social networking site that would become known as Facebook, he is sued by the twins who claimed he stole their idea and by the co-founder who was later squeezed out of the business.Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96%

Okay, the Social Network is definitely not a bad film. The acting is solid, the plot is engaging, and it is very relevant to modern times. But ninety-six percent? Come on. It's not even close to perfect. The film's portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg is frustrating to watch. He's arrogant, and annoying, and never even tries to empathize with others. This wouldn't be such a problem if (a) Facebook failed because of his attitude, and he had to learn how to be a better person, or (b) The film portrays Zuckerberg in an accurate way. Neither happen. What we're left with is a decent biopic with a few issues, not a film that's almost flawless. - DirectorKar-Wai WongStarsLeon LaiMichelle ReisTakeshi KaneshiroThis Hong Kong-set crime drama follows the lives of a hitman, hoping to get out of the business, and his elusive female partner.Rotten Tomatoes Score: 95%

Fallen Angels is just a weaker version of the far superior Chungking Express. In the latter film, the atmosphere is warm and relaxing, and the film is also visually stunning. Not to mention that the character's struggles are relatable and the plot is extremely engaging. Compare this to Fallen Angels, a film that is a slog to get through and has characters with the depth of a kiddie pool. The film is so incoherent and hard to follow that at times, the actions of the protagnists seem bizarre and incomprehensible. For example, one of the main characters randomly uses a wire hanger to trap his father in the bathroom for literally no reason. We never see the father get out, we never see the son explain himself or apologize, nothing. This wouldn't be such a big problem if the film was more about atmosphere and emotions, like Chungking Express. However, most of the stylized imagery in the film, whilst beautiful, is entirely pointless and only adds to the confusion of it all. The one really enjoyable part of the film is a brief segment involving (and I'll say this without giving too much away) sobbing, revenge, and a particularly unlucky body pillow. That small bright spot is right on par with Chungking Express, but is unfortunately really short. To summarize, Fallen Angels isn't what I would call a bad film, but it is really, really overrated. - DirectorLuchino ViscontiStarsHelmut BergerRomy SchneiderTrevor HowardThe reign of the tormented Ludwig, king of Bavaria, from 1864 to 1886.Rotten Tomatoes Score: 36%

An important note to make is that I saw the four hour cut, and there are at least two other cuts I'm aware of (one that's about ten minutes longer, one that's a half hour shorter), so it's perfectly possible that those cuts are bad. However, looking at the version I saw, it's actually a very interesting take on decaying sanity and crumbling opulence. Because the film is so long and takes place over such a long stretch of time, you get to see how naturally Ludwig changes throughout the movie, and how bad things done to him affect his behavior later in his life. THe first half is definitely slow, but luckily the second half definitely picks things up a bit as Ludwig begins to lose it more and more. The film is also filled with great performances, particuarly Helmut Berger as Ludwig and John Moulder-Brown as Prince Otto. My only real problem with the movie is that the version I saw was dubbed over in Italian (despite the fact that it's obvious that it was originally filmed in English), and some of the dubbing is pretty bad. Poor John Moulder-Brown gave a great performance, but for some reason they dubbed him over with a middle-aged man. Seeing as Otto is supposed to be a teenager, and Moulder-Brown looks barely twenty, his scenes are unfortunately a little silly. But hey, there's probably an English version out there somewhere. Other than that problem, Ludwig is a very solid look at one of history's most interesting monarchs. - DirectorRichard AttenboroughStarsMichael DouglasTerrence MannMichael BlevinsHopefuls try out before a demanding director for a part in a new musical.Rotten Tomatoes Score: 40%

A Chorus Line is certainly not a cinematic masterpiece, and the stage musical is probably way better, but forty-percent is way too low. The film is emotional, engaging, and the songs are catchy with a capital C. Heck, as I'm writing this, I'm listening to "One". Oh, and it has one of my favorite endings in movie history, and given the things I've seen, that's a very tall order. Of course, I knew next to nothing about the stage show when I went into this movie, so my guess is that those who didn't like it probably thought that the stage show was better. But if you aren't a theater fanatic, then this is a really solid movie to watch. - DirectorZack SnyderStarsEmily BrowningVanessa HudgensAbbie CornishA young girl institutionalized by her abusive stepfather retreats to an alternative reality as a coping strategy and envisions a plan to help her escape.Rotten Tomatoes Score: 22%

Okay, maybe the film is a little silly at times, and yeah, it isn't the most feminist movie ever, but still. I didn't even like action movies that much, but I couldn't help but admire the film's ambition and visual flair. It is a flawed, but enjoyable and unique film. Honestly, it feels like this movie just swapped scores with 300. 300 is a much weaker film, due in part to its egregious sexism and racism. But somehow, it has 60% whilst this is stuck with less than half of that. If you want to see 300, I highly recommend seeing Sucker Punch instead. - DirectorRobert SchwentkeStarsJodie FosterPeter SarsgaardSean BeanA bereaved woman and her daughter are flying home from Berlin to America. This one just baffles me. Okay, maybe the plot is a bit far-fetched, but so is practically every thriller ever made. Jodie Foster is great in Flightplan, and the basic premise is also very clever. So how did this get a score of only thirty-seven percent? The truth is, I don't know. How on Earth does Unfriended have a higher score than this? Also a mystery. A film being mildly far-fetched shouldn't warrant a forty-three percent reduction. Flightplan is a fascinating thriller that is full to the brim with tension and great acting. The reason why it has such a low score is more of a mystery than the film itself. - DirectorOren PeliStarsKatie FeatherstonMicah SloatMark FredrichsAfter moving into a suburban home, a couple becomes increasingly disturbed by a nightly demonic presence.Rotten Tomatoes Score: 83%

One word: boring. This movie feels about four times longer than it actually is. Not to mention, it isn't scary, and the acting is very unconvincing. So, what gives? To put it in context, this movie has a higher score than much better films like Vice, Friday the 13th, and both of its first two far superior sequels. That is completely absurd, given how next to nothing happens in this movie. If you want an actually good found footage horror movie, go watch The Blair Witch Project. Or The Last Exorcism. Or even Unfriended. Just skip this one.
