- DirectorRachel TalalayStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanJami Reid-QuarrellTrapped in a world unlike any other he has seen, the Doctor faces the greatest challenge of his many lives. One final test. And he must face it alone...The way this episode explores grief is really good and the directing leaves such an atmosphere. Capaldi gives his best performance ever. The pacing, production design and cinematography are great. I really like the storytelling and this episode was an emotional journey.
- DirectorDaniel O'HaraStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanColin McFarlaneIn a town that never was, the Doctor and his friends are being stalked by a mysterious figure. With the past and future in the balance, can the Doctor stop the evil Fisher King? And more importantly, who composed Beethoven's 5th.This episode is pretty original and the pacing is really good. There's some tense direction and great character building. The production design and storytelling are great and the plot is really well told.
- DirectorBill AndersonStarsPeter CapaldiPearl MackieMatt LucasThe Doctor and Bill visit London during the last of the River Thames frost fairs in February 1814. They soon discover that there is something under the ice which is causing people to disappear.Bill and The Doctor have great drama against each other and the plot it fairly unique and engaging. The antagonist isn't great, however the directing, pacing and themes are strong enough to hold it together.
- DirectorBen WheatleyStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanZawe AshtonThe Doctor's greatest enemy surrounds a rebel ship. To save everyone, he and Clara must choose to venture into the most dangerous place in the universe. The Doctor is forced to examine his conscience and ask if he is a good man.A spiritual sequel to Dalek. The production design and great acting turn a bad premise into a really engaging story with really well explored themes and ideas. It has some minor structure problems, but overall it's excellent.
- DirectorRachel TalalayStarsPeter CapaldiPearl MackieMatt LucasThe Doctor makes a final stand against an army of Cybermen to protect a tiny band of humans from destruction.I really like how this story wraps up Bill's arc. The cybermen are finally scary again and the conflict portrayed in Bill's character is done fantastically. The Master, Missy and The Doctor have some great dialogue and conflict. The direction is brilliant and the music is great. A really satisfying ending of many storylines.
- DirectorPaul WilmshurstStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanSamuel AndersonOn the most beautiful train in history, speeding amongst the stars of the future, a deadly and immortal creature is stalking the passengers. This episode has some amazing directing and production design. The characters are rather thin and it does have twists that don't work, however this has some amazing moments. The dialogue and acting is great. Whilst it has odd morals, that is the purpose. It's a well paced mystery that has Capaldi at his best.
- DirectorLawrence GoughStarsPeter CapaldiPearl MackieMatt LucasThe Doctor and Nardole team up with a university student to take down a sinister life-mimicking alien.I really like the new approach to the Twelfth Doctor and Bill made for a really fun companion. The mystery elements were well used and the direction gave so much energy to the story. It does suffer from mystery box elements and it's resolution is strange. Overall, it still made for a fresh new starting point.
- DirectorCharlie PalmerStarsPeter CapaldiPearl MackieMatt LucasWhen the Doctor, Bill and Nardole become trapped on a space station without oxygen, they discover the spacesuits are trying to kill them. There are some really good stakes in this story and the themes of capitalism are quite good. It's okay directed, although the plot doesn't stay consistent. It has good characters, good dialogue and great pacing, although it's impact isn't felt for long.
- DirectorDouglas MackinnonStarsPeter CapaldiAlex KingstonMatt LucasWhen a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song's squad and hurled into a chase across the galaxy.A really nice send off. The dynamic between River and The Doctor is fresh and the pacing is really good. The plot is slightly lopsided and overly goofy sometimes. The directing and dialogue are great and it ends up being very endearing.
- DirectorDaniel NettheimStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanIngrid OliverWith the Zygons invading England, and UNIT neutralized, the Doctor stands alone to stop the Zygons from taking over the entire planet. But how can he stop the Zygons? And how can he save his friends?I really like the themes and tone established here. Once again it suffers from messy storytelling due to a need to throw in twists. Thankfully this is fixed in part 2, as the end encounters are fantastic. The directing and acting are good, although it is messily told.
- DirectorWayne YipStarsPeter CapaldiPearl MackieMatt LucasThe Doctor, Bill and Nardole discover a tomb of the Queen of the Ice Warriors on Mars in 1881.There wasn't a huge amount of substance to this story, however the characters were pretty good and it had good dialogue. It had good pacing, however unfortunately it also suffered from poor direcftion.
- DirectorJustin MolotnikovStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanMaisie WilliamsThe Doctor and Clara are called back to Earth when Rigsy discovers a strange tattoo on the back of his neck that appears to be counting down to zero. Their investigation leads them to a hidden street in the middle of London, the discovery that Rigsy has been issued a death sentence, and one of them facing the choice of having to make the ultimate sacrifice; to face the Raven! This episode has good ideas and concepts, however it takes a while to get to the point. When it finally clicks, the episode is an engaging story, although it's resolution is questionable and the addition of Me didn't work. Half of a really great episode.
- DirectorLawrence GoughStarsPeter CapaldiPearl MackieMatt LucasThe Doctor brings Bill to a future human colony, where cute EmojiBots work as willing servants and make sure everybody's happy, but if they're not happy ,they're harvested, so Bill and The Doctor better smile, or else.I really like the slower pace they took at the start and I really like to gothic atmosphere too. A lot of the plot twists do feel very far out of left field though and it's conclusion is far too convenient. I like it's portrayal of society and the visuals of the future, although sometimes it veers into stupidity.
- DirectorDouglas MackinnonStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanKeeley HawesThe Doctor and Clara wake up in a room with two other people, unable to remember how they got there. As it turns out Someone known as the Architect has employed them to Break into the Universe's most secure bank. This episode takes the dumbest plot possible and manages to turn it into a really investing mystery box. The characters are good and the plot twists work well. Although it's direction isn't great, the pacing is good, so overall it's a fun story.
- DirectorDouglas MackinnonStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanJoivan WadeA problem happens with the Tardis, trapping the Doctor inside and leaving Clara to fend for herself against a two dimensional enemy.Clara is well used in this one, as are the other characters. The concepts and direction were also really unique in this one. Unfortunately, the dialogue and pacing are lacking, as is much depth. This story also suffers from tonal whiplash a lot. It's fun, but not brilliant.
- DirectorBill AndersonStarsPeter CapaldiPearl MackieMatt LucasBill is moving in with some friends and they've found the perfect house rented by the landlord. The wind blows, the floorboards creak and the Doctor thinks something is very wrong.I really liked the first half of the haunted house idea, which made for some great tension with stakes. The characters were fine, however good pacing and a cool premise were good. The production design and direction are good, however the end of the story was very safe and contrived.
- DirectorEdward BazalgetteStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanMaisie WilliamsIn a Viking village, a girl named Ashildr is about to make a desperate mistake. The Mire are the deadliest mercenaries in the galaxy, famed for showing no mercy and Ashildr has just declared war on them. The Doctor and Clara have 12 hours to turn a peaceful village into strong fighters, ready for the deadly Mire. This episode is fine. The scatterbrained ideas and plot make it hard for me to feel invested, however the acting is good enough and I like some moments here. I felt very little connection to Ashildr and the story has low stakes, but the themes are good enough
- DirectorPaul MurphyStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanSamuel AndersonThe terrifying Skovox Blitzer is ready to destroy all humanity - but worse, and any second now, Danny Pink and the Doctor are going to meet. The acting is good and there's some witty dialogue. The story had good intentions, however there wasn't much levity. The villain was one note and the plot was incredibly generic, but the character interactions were good, so it gets a mild pass.
- DirectorPaul MurphyStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanTom RileyIn Sherwood Forest, the Doctor uncovers a sinister alien plot and forms an alliance with Robin Hood. With Nottingham at stake, the Doctor must decide who is real and who is fake. This episode was weird. The plot is fairly generic, however I did like the twist on myths. The directing and humour are great, but the characters are really bad. The Doctor is overly cocky, Robin Hood is one note and Clara doesn't do anything. It's fun, but uninteresting.
- DirectorCharlie PalmerStarsPeter CapaldiPearl MackieMatt LucasA long time ago, the Roman legion of the ninth vanished into the mists of Scotland. Bill has a theory about what happened, and the Doctor has a time machine. But when they arrive in ancient Aberdeenshire, what they find is a far greater threat than any army. In a cairn, on a hillside, is a doorway leading to the end of the world. It's a very generic story, where whilst the story has heart, it just falls into conventions. Nothing is really bad at all, but very little stood out, and in an overcrowded plot, it just doesn't distinguish itself
- DirectorJustin MolotnikovStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanReece ShearsmithVision recovered from the wreckage of Le Verrier Space Station shows how the Doctor and Clara became entangled in a rescue mission. As the footage plays out, a horrifying secret is uncovered.I like the visual techniques utilised, however I don't think it fits here. The plot is trather generic and slowly paced, but due to the whole concept, it leaves a disconnect. Hardly anything about the story and characters is memorable. There's just not much worth mentioning.
- DirectorDouglas MackinnonStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanSamuel AndersonWhen ghosts of past and future crowd into their lives, The Doctor and Clara are thrown into an adventure that takes them to the very end of the universe. The first half of the episode is amazing, but as the story continues, it gets less and less interesting. There's too much of a focus on Clara and Danny, which is pointless. The first Doctor nod is also pointless. The directing is amazing, so is the editing, but the writing sucks. It sucks you in only to disappoint you.
- DirectorRachel TalalayStarsJenna ColemanPeter CapaldiSamuel AndersonWith Cybermen on the streets of London, old friends unite against old enemies and the Doctor takes to the air in a startling new role. As the Doctor faces his greatest challenge, sacrifices must be made before the day is won.Danny Pink's death wasn't earned and the emotional pay-off felt way too cheesy. I like the reveal of the Cybermen, but unfortunately they are given little to do. The idea of dead corpses resisting cyber control is ridiculous. The plot has a good premise that's ruined by a deus ex machina. Missy is good, but her reveal was poorly executed. UNIT did nothing and none of the Danny stuff was interesting. I like The Doctor's arc and the direction, however the end leaves much to be desired.
- DirectorEdward BazalgetteStarsPeter CapaldiMatt LucasJustin ChatwinOne fateful night in New York City, the Doctor inadvertently causes a young boy to gain superpowers. Returning years later on the trail of the shady Harmony Shoal Institute, he finds the boy all grown up as masked superhero The Ghost.Whilst I like the idea of a superhero story in this, they've chosen a very generic type of episode with very dull villains and a Doctor that doesn't do much. The directing is fairly bland, however the pacing and dialogue are quite good. Whilst the ending is charming, the story just doesn't justify itself and has little substance.
- DirectorPaul WilmshurstStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanNick FrostThe Doctor and Clara face their Last Christmas. Trapped on an Arctic base, under attack from terrifying creatures, who are you going to call? Santa Claus! This episode has very little do with Christmas and instead adopts a miserable, grimy tone. The directing is bad, a lot of the acting is bad and the pacing is bad. The plot is fairly lose and has many holes, but overall it's just a string of strange choices.
- DirectorSheree FolksonStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanSamuel AndersonOne morning in London, and every city and town in the world, the human race wakes up to the most surprising invasion yet: the trees have moved back in. Everywhere, in every land, a forest has grown and taken back the Earth. Why? There is no conflict in this story whatsoever. Danny and Clara do nothing. The addition of the children is meaningless. The whole episode paces so slowly, there are so many unnecessary plot elements and the plot makes so little sense. The Doctor has some good moments, the production design is good, and the whole episode is rather inoffensive, but it's a waste of time.
- DirectorEdward BazalgetteStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanMaisie WilliamsEngland, 1651. A deadly highwayman known only as 'The Knightmare' plagues the dark streets of London, his fire-breathing accomplice by his side. There's something clearly more than human here, and that includes the loot as much as the outlaws. Who are these creatures, and are they enemies to be fought, or friends who might possibly save the Doctor from certain doom on the gallows? This episode has such a loose plot and subsequently some really bad pacing and dialogue. Ashildr was really uninteresting and the directing is quite weak. Twelve has some good moments and the ideas of losing memory and heart over time is interesting, but it isn't well handled.
- DirectorWayne YipStarsPeter CapaldiPearl MackieMatt LucasEarth is invaded and Bill is living alone in occupied Britain. The Doctor appears to be on the side of the enemy, flooding the airwaves with fake news. Bill and Nardole embark on a deadly mission to rescue the Doctor and lead the resistance against the new regime, whatever the cost.(The Monk Trilogy) Each episode felt very unrelated from the last one, and no themes or concepts are really translated through. Extremis, whilst undercutting it's own ending was good. Pyramid was disappointing thanks to uninteresting plot lines. And Lie of The Land was scatter-brained and ends too neatly. Overall, it's just unchallenging and pointless overall.
- DirectorBen WheatleyStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanNeve McIntoshWhen the newly-regenerated doctor arrives in Victorian London, he finds a dinosaur rampant in the Thames and a spate of deadly spontaneous combustions.Awful post regeneration story. The focus of the episode is so blurred. Capaldi is given nothing to do and is over shadowed by Clara and the Paternoster gang, who are exceedingly annoying. The acting is good, so is the directing, but the writing is awful. The pacing drags, it lacks life and the characters are poorly developed. Not a great start.
- DirectorHettie MacdonaldStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanMichelle GomezTrapped and alone in a terrifying Dalek city, the Doctor is at the heart of an evil Empire; no sonic, no TARDIS, nobody to help. With his greatest temptation before him, can the Doctor resist? And will there be mercy? Why is this 2 parts? This episode is such a cluster of references and meaningless scenes. Missy is fun, but serves no purpose. The daleks are really useless in this one and there's no threat at all. The Doctor and Davros scenes are great, but it takes so much wasted time and bad dialogue to get there.
- DirectorPaul WilmshurstStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanSamuel AndersonIn the near future, the Doctor and Clara find themselves on a space shuttle making a suicide mission to the Moon. Crash-landing on the lunar surface they find the most terrible things. The moon was an egg. This episode adds absolutely nothing and is filled with insufferable lecturing. Clara is really annoying and the other characters are necessary. The cinematography and editing suck. Capaldi keeps on randomly leaving. The plot is just so pointless, yet so irritating as well.
- DirectorRachel TalalayStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanDonald SumpterEscaping his confession dial, the Doctor finds himself back home on Gallifrey and confronts those who have conspired against him. However, the Time Lords are unprepared for the lengths the Doctor will go to in order to save his friend. For god's sake. This prophecy idea comes out of nowhere and it's answer is so tacked on. There are so many meaningless references that drain my engagement. Gallifrey is barely in the episode and it gives a massive middle finger to the mythology. The pacing sucks and the choice to bring Clara back is ridiculous. An absolute mess of a finale.
- DirectorRachel TalalayStarsPeter CapaldiDavid BradleyPearl MackieThe Twelfth Doctor, still refusing to change, goes on a last adventure with the First Doctor.
