Louis van Amstel is a professional dancer, Latin American style. Van Amstel was born in The Netherlands. In 2000, he retired from competing, but he regularly appears in exhibition performances. Van Amstel lives in New York City, and has produced dance shows on Broadway at City Center (Latin Fusion) and in Salt Lake City (Latin Revolution). Van Amstel directed, choreographed and performed in Latin Fusion through his company VanDance, LLC, founded in 2000.
Van Amstel started to dance at a very early age, and gained a solid background in ballet, tap dancing and jazz. After high school, he attended the University of the Arts in the Dutch capital Amsterdam. Unlike many dancers, Van Amstel has a strong psychological approach to teaching. This approach was based on the theory described in the book Dance To Your Maximum by Maximiliaan Winkelhuis, a must-read for competitive dancers.
In 1989, Sammy Stopford and Peter Townsend, both excellent competitors, thought that Julie Fryer from Manchester, UK would be a great match for Amsterdam dancer Van Amstel. Van Amstel and Fryer talked to each other on the phone quite a few times. Ultimately, Fryer chose to fly to The Netherlands to meet with Van Amstel. From day one, Van Amstel and Fryer made an excellent dancing couple.
Van Amstel and Fryer kept on traveling back and forth from Manchester to Amsterdam for several months. This was an exhausting period. Van Amstel and Fryer knew they had to make a final decision: either working with Sammy Stopford or in Holland with Ruud Vermeij, outstanding competitor from Amsterdam. Van Amstel and Fryer chose to stay in The Netherlands because of Ruud Vermeij's impact on their dancing.
In 1990, Van Amstel and Fryer became Dutch Latin Champions and 10 Dance Champions. They also made the final in Blackpool in the 'under 21' category. This very same year, they received a bronze medal at the German Open, at the World Latin and at the European 10 Dance. In the Worlds 10 Dance Championship, Van Amstel and Fryer got the fourth place. Now it was time to choose between ballroom and Latin American dancing. They chose the Latin American style since this was where their hearts really were.
In 1991 Van Amstel and Fryer did it again: they won the national championships for the second time, and got the fourth place in all major championships. A year later, Van Amstel decided that he wanted to retire from competing for a while, and came to the point where he finished his partnership with Fryer for the first time. Three years later, in 1995, the partnership was re-established, and Van Amstel and Fryer enjoyed another great year by winning all major championships. In 1996, they turned professional, and made the UK final together. They started to concentrate on South American show dancing. Thanks to a very successful choreography written by Ruud Vermeij, Van Amstel and Fryer won the World Championships. Also, they made the final in Blackpool in the paso doble, and the final in the World Championships in Miami, Florida.- Edyta Sliwinska is known for being the only professional dancer on all 6 seasons of Dancing with the Stars (2005), partnered with Evander Holyfield, George Hamilton, Joey Lawrence, John Ratzenberger, and most recently Cameron Mathison and Jason Taylor. Carrie Ann Inaba was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. She is of Japanese, Chinese, and Irish ancestry, and is the youngest of two children. Carrie Ann grew up dancing the hula (native Hawaiian dance) and other dance forms. She also played the piano and violin and sang in the choir. She attended Hanahaouli School and then Punahou School. Carrie Ann played volleyball for a little while but found her true love in performing.
At the age of 16, she and her closest friend Tina Horii won the Hawaii statewide competition, "Search for Talent", dancing a piece that they had choreographed together. While still sixteen, Carrie Ann was scouted to go to Japan to become a "Teen Idol".
However, she waited until she finished high school and then left Hawaii to pursue her career as a musical artist in Japan. During her time in Japan, Carrie Ann released three singles with Pony Canyon Records while attending Sophia University, a Jesuit university in Tokyo. In the two-year period spent living in Tokyo, Japan, she learned a great deal about the entertainment industry, performing, as well as the Japanese language. She also made great friends from all over the world, which later became a theme in her life as a documentarian.
After realizing that the Tokyo lifestyle wasn't for her at the time, Carrie Ann returned to the United States, relocating to California. She began to study choreography at the University of California, Irvine. It wasn't long till she got the bug to dance in Los Angeles and moved up to study with Alex Magno at the Debbie Reynolds Studios in North Hollywood, California. One day in dance class, Carrie Ann was approached by a producer who asked her to be in a music video for an artist named Terry Lin. She met the choreographer and booked the job. She was ready to start working.
One of her first jobs was as a dancer for the Emmy Award-winning television show, In Living Color (1990). Her next big gig was performing with Madonna, being featured as the "Pole Girl" on The Girlie Show tour. For this tour, Carrie Ann had to shave her head and also train with circus trainers and a stripper. She later went on to dance with Ricky Martin, David Copperfield, Chayanne, and did a lot of appearances on shows such as The Creative Arts Emmys, The SAG Awards, The NAACP Awards, The MTV Awards, The Oprah Winfrey Show (1986), and so much more. To this day, she still loves to dance. In her heart of hearts, it is the movement and the music that will always inspire her as an artist. In fact, even as an actress, she likes to incorporate dance and movement.
When Carrie Ann began her acting career, her main interest was in action roles. She studied tae kwon do with Billy Blanks, the creator Taebo, and continues her education in martial arts. She also practices hatha yoga. Carrie Ann always looks for ways to include her background in movement (choreography and martial arts) into her career.
Besides performing, Carrie Ann has many credits behind the scenes as well. Besides her choreography, she opened up her own digital video production company, EnterMediArts, Inc., which produced two of her documentaries and her short film. She hopes that EnterMediArts, Inc. will soon produce more reality/education television programming, behind-the-scenes DVD productions as well as lower-end film projects. She is the president and CEO for the company and has directed and edited most of her own projects. She loves the entertainment industry and loves the accessibility that DV (Digital Video) provides. She invested in a few edit bays and a few cameras and produces projects for fellow artists and "creatives." As her company's name implies, Carrie Ann likes to break down barriers and combine elements, creating hybrids just like she, herself, is a combination of cultures. Her production company, EnterMediArts, Inc., gets its name from Entertainment, Media, and the Arts -- all rolled into one.
Carrie Ann has also modeled here and there and has been on the cover of European magazines and Japanese magazines. She was the national spokesmodel for an AT&T Asian Campaign and has been in many commercials throughout her career.
At the time of this writing, Carrie Ann is in the limelight once more for her participation in the hit show, Dancing with the Stars (2005) and Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann (2008).- Actress

Moreover, she was the assistant choreographer to Jason Gilkison on So You Think You Can Dance USA and So You Think You Can Dance Australia for many years. In 2009 Burn The Floor landed on Broadway with Sharna as one of the lead female dancers.
Finally achieving her life long dream of doing Broadway, Sharna bid the world-renowned Great White Way a sweet adieu in 2011. After that amazing and exhilarating run with Burn The Floor, she leapt from the theatre world to the film business when she choreographed Street Dance 2 3D released in the UK, Europe, India, Australia, and Asia in 2012. She not only created some of the most electrifying Latin and Salsa scenes on film to date, but she also worked with renowned choreographers Rich + Tone Talauega to fuse those Hip Hop and Latin worlds together. This innovative unification created a whole new style and catapulted Sharna into Tinsel Town's stratosphere landing her on one of the biggest prime-time network television shows - Dancing With The Stars - after years of devotion, passion, and perseverance to her artistry and craft.
Sharna has had the privilege of dancing with celebrity partners funny man Andy Dick, football-great-turned-ESPN personality, Keyshawn Johnson, Olympian Charlie White and television host Tavis Smiley on Dancing With The Stars. Sharna was honored to be paired with wounded warrior and motivational speaker Noah Galloway on Season 20 of the show. Sharna and Noah danced their way into the hearts of America and finished in third place while inspiring millions each week.
Sharna is embarking on an exciting new adventure as she also pursues a career in hosting and acting in television and film projects.
