- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioRobert De NiroLily GladstoneWhen oil is discovered in 1920s Oklahoma under Osage Nation land, the Osage people are murdered one by one - until the FBI steps in to unravel the mystery.(7/10) - Runtime is exhausting. But yet another solid movie from Scorsese.
- DirectorTodd HaynesStarsNatalie PortmanChris TenzisCharles MeltonTwenty years after their notorious tabloid romance gripped the nation, a married couple buckles under pressure when an actress arrives to do research for a film about their past.(7.2/10)
- DirectorSandeep Reddy VangaStarsRanbir KapoorAnil KapoorBobby DeolThe hardened son of a powerful industrialist returns home after years abroad and vows to take bloody revenge on those threatening his father's life.(7.8/10)
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsJoaquin PhoenixVanessa KirbyTahar RahimAn epic that details the chequered rise and fall of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and his relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive, volatile relationship with his wife, Josephine.(7.3/10) - The battle scenes are gold. That's the only reason this got above 7. Story is told in old-fashioned biographical way itself. It becomes uninteresting real quick. Despite that, solid one with outstanding visuals.
- DirectorPatrice ChéreauStarsMark RylanceKerry FoxSusannah HarkerA failed London musician meets once a week with a woman for a series of intense sexual encounters to get away from the realities of life. But when he begins inquiring about her, it puts their relationship at risk.(5.6/10) - Damn. Never seen main
stream actors being so explicit. The movie was average, imo. Fell asleep a couple of times. But holds no hate. - DirectorBertrand BlierStarsGérard DepardieuMiou-MiouPatrick DewaereTwo thugs harass assault, steal, murder, Marie-Ange, a jaded, passive hairdresser, joins them as lover, cook, and mother confessor, on her own search for seemingly unattainable sexual pleasure.(6/10)
- DirectorChung-Hyun LeeStarsPark Shin-hyeJeon Jong-seoKim Sung-ryungTwo people live in different times. Seo-Yeon lives in the present and Young-Sook lives in the past. One phone call connects the two, and their lives are changed irrevocably.(7.7/10) - Ludicrous plot done in an interesting and engaging way.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsUma ThurmanDavid CarradineMichael MadsenThe Bride continues her quest of vengeance against her former boss and lover Bill, the reclusive bouncer Budd, and the treacherous, one-eyed Elle.(7.8/10) - This one focused much more on the plot and characters rather than action. Though, some scenes felt dragged.
- DirectorKim Do-YoungStarsJung Yu-miGong YooKim Mi-kyungKim Ji-yeong, an ordinary woman in her 30s, suddenly shows signs of being inhabited by others such as her late mother and older sister, and the stories of the people connected to her.(7.6/10)
- DirectorAng LeeStarsTony Leung Chiu-waiTang WeiJoan ChenDuring World War II era, a young woman, Wang Jiazhi, gets swept up in a dangerous game of emotional intrigue with a powerful political figure, Mr. Yee.(7.3/10) - Done really well in almost every aspects but maybe it's the language barrier that made me lose interest infrequently, as a result finished the movie in 3-4 days.
- DirectorPark Chan-wookStarsSong Kang-hoShin Ha-kyunBae DoonaA recently laid off factory worker kidnaps his former boss' friend's daughter, hoping to use the ransom money to pay for his sister's kidney transplant.(7.2/10) - Great story and direction from Park Chan Wook but it failed to reach the level as Oldboy. The minimal amount of dialogues in most scenes really affected my score.
- DirectorPark Chan-wookStarsNam-mi KangJeong-nam ChoiHye-Sook GoAfter being wrongfully imprisoned for thirteen years and having her child taken away from her, a woman seeks revenge through increasingly brutal means.(7.6/10) - The actress is a beauty to behold. Makes you a simp, ong. I could see traces of Oldboy in this and great improvement from the first movie of the trilogy. Though, the final 30 minutes felt quite unnatural, I liked this one.
- DirectorWill GluckStarsSydney SweeneyGlen PowellAlexandra ShippAfter an amazing first date, Bea and Ben's fiery attraction turns ice-cold--until they find themselves unexpectedly reunited at a wedding in Australia. So they do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be a couple.(6.6/10) - Nothing Outta the ordinary.
- DirectorYorgos LanthimosStarsEmma StoneMark RuffaloWillem DafoeAn account of the fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter.(7.8/10) - A tad bit long but a fascinating movie.
- DirectorIsao TakahataStarsChloë Grace MoretzJames CaanMary SteenburgenKaguya is a beautiful young woman coveted by five nobles. To try to avoid marrying a stranger she doesn't love, she sends her suitors on seemingly impossible tasks. But she will have to face her fate and punishment for her choices.(7.8/10)
- DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsRachel ZeglerTom BlythViola DavisCoriolanus Snow mentors and develops feelings for the female District 12 tribute during the 10th Hunger Games.(7.6/10) - Better than MockingJay 2. A good character-movie. This movie didn't really focused on the "game" unlike the previous ones, instead on the main character. And his development was very well-done.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsJake GyllenhaalRobert Downey Jr.Mark RuffaloBetween 1968 and 1983, a San Francisco cartoonist becomes an amateur detective obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac Killer, an unidentified individual who terrorizes Northern California with a killing spree.(8/10) - Fine One. The best I've seen this year. After reading the trivia, I've found that Fincher's put a lot of work into this. Respect.
- DirectorPaco PlazaStarsSandra EscacenaBruna GonzálezClaudia PlacerMadrid, 1991. A teen girl finds herself besieged by an evil supernatural force after she played Ouija with two classmates.(6.9/10)
- DirectorTakashi YamazakiStarsMinami HamabeRyunosuke KamikiSakura AndôPost war Japan is at its lowest point when a new crisis emerges in the form of a giant monster, baptized in the horrific power of the atomic bomb.(8.5/10) - The best on the list so far. This is a feast for Godzilla fans. Godzilla lives upto the terrifying image it was inside my head unlike the Hollywood ones where he's becoming more like a superhero-isque monster. And then there's the absolutely INCREDIBLE visuals for a block-buster film with budget as low as 10-15 mil. Hats off to Takashi-san. The story was top-notch as well, the ending was so satisfying.
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsTimothée ChalametZendayaRebecca FergusonPaul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.(7.8/10) - I don't know. Even though i love Villeneuve's other works, I just cannot bring myself to like these Dune movies very much. They are just not my cup of tea. Technical aspects, top-notch, nevertheless.
- DirectorRose GlassStarsAnna BaryshnikovKristen StewartDave FrancoGym manager Lou falls for Jackie, a bodybuilder who is passing through town en route to a competition in Las Vegas.(7.4/10)
- DirectorAdam WingardStarsRebecca HallBrian Tyree HenryDan StevensTwo ancient titans, Godzilla and Kong, clash in an epic battle as humans unravel their intertwined origins and connection to Skull Island's mysteries.(7.3/10)
- DirectorDev PatelStarsDev PatelSharlto CopleyPitobashAn anonymous young man unleashes a campaign of vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to systematically victimize the poor and powerless.(6.9/10)
