The man walks with an air of confidence rarely seen in this day and age.

He ran, he walked… then he waddled (help me!)

1. Above the Law (1988)

R | 99 min | Action, Crime, Drama

45 Metascore

A former Special Operations Vietnam vet works as a Chicago cop, and uncovers C.I.A. wrongdoing.

Director: Andrew Davis | Stars: Steven Seagal, Pam Grier, Henry Silva, Ron Dean

Votes: 34,621 | Gross: $18.87M

We sprint right out the gate. Seagal is fit, ferocious and sporting an rapidly residing hairline. Non of that matters though, as our boy breaks bones and saves the day. A glorious fun movie.

2. Hard to Kill (1990)

R | 96 min | Action, Crime, Drama

41 Metascore

Targeted by the mob and its political supporters, hired assassins leave LAPD Detective Mason Storm for dead. Seven years later, he recovers from a deep coma, demanding justice and the opportunity to get even.

Director: Bruce Malmuth | Stars: Steven Seagal, Kelly LeBrock, William Sadler, Frederick Coffin

Votes: 32,367 | Gross: $47.41M

Again, a lot to enjoy about this film but it’s unfortunately dragged down by an incapacity Seagal, given he spends most of the second act in a coma and such. He is topless for the first and only time, so there’s that. And Kelly Le Brock seduces him with a flower.

3. Marked for Death (1990)

R | 93 min | Action, Crime, Drama

49 Metascore

A retired DEA agent is out to hunt down and take out a Jamaican drug posse that has targeted he and his family for murder.

Director: Dwight H. Little | Stars: Steven Seagal, Joanna Pacula, Basil Wallace, Keith David

Votes: 24,320 | Gross: $46.04M

Seagal never had a better onscreen partner than Keith David. Together they massacre every Jamaican on the planet and Steven even gets to mouth off about all the homos that occupies their local tavern. Screwface was also in “Showgirls” he was a dancer, I believe. The more you know.

4. Out for Justice (1991)

R | 91 min | Action, Crime, Drama

38 Metascore

With his partner executed in broad daylight by a psychotic mafia enforcer, a veteran Brooklyn officer vows revenge. But is the unstoppable detective prepared to face the truth and pay the price of blood?

Director: John Flynn | Stars: Steven Seagal, William Forsythe, Jerry Orbach, Jo Champa

Votes: 25,804 | Gross: $39.67M

Seagal’ best film by a country mile. William Forsythe steals the show (of course) but Steven gives it his all armed with an Italian accent so over the top, that the entire cast of Jersey Shore seems entirely preferable as an alternative to keeping his company. The film is great though. OTT violence, great set pieces and Seagal’ character is named Gino Falino (what the fuck is that?) Treasure it, as this is the last great/greatest Seagal flick.

5. Under Siege (1992)

R | 103 min | Action, Thriller

58 Metascore

An ex-Navy Seal turned cook is the only person who can stop a group of terrorists when they seize control of a U.S. battleship.

Director: Andrew Davis | Stars: Steven Seagal, Gary Busey, Tommy Lee Jones, Erika Eleniak

Votes: 95,539 | Gross: $83.36M

We come to a shift in Steven’ career. No more flatfooted cop on the streets. I’m now a super soldier machine gunned to the max mode and while the film is entertaining it basically all due to the antics of Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey. Sorry Seagal. You’re shooting blanks.

6. On Deadly Ground (1994)

R | 101 min | Action, Adventure, Thriller

33 Metascore

A blowout firefighter takes on an environmentally destructive oil corporation by causing many deaths and explosions in Alaska.

Director: Steven Seagal | Stars: Steven Seagal, Michael Caine, Joan Chen, John C. McGinley

Votes: 25,468 | Gross: $38.59M

Armed with cigarillos and a nifty fridge jacket, Seagal is positively the most retarded man to ever tackle the subject of climate change (besides Trump, obviously) This is Steven’ directorial debut and boy is it mouthful. Our boy instigates bar fights, only to shoot the whole thing down with banal zen like mambo jumbo. He is attack by various animals, befriends the local tribe and then destroys an oil rig. All in a days work. Also Michael Caine plays the baddy… with his hair dyed jet black.

7. Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995)

R | 100 min | Action, Adventure, Thriller

52 Metascore

Casey Ryback hops on a Colorado to LA train to start a vacation with his niece. Early into the trip, terrorists board the train and use it as a mobile HQ to hijack a top secret destructive US satellite.

Director: Geoff Murphy | Stars: Steven Seagal, Eric Bogosian, Everett McGill, Katherine Heigl

Votes: 50,154 | Gross: $50.02M

Steven takes a train ride, because of course he does. He has medals so secret he can’t show them to anyone (and yet can’t stop blabbering about them) he kills Mike from Breaking Bad and Big Ed from Twin Peaks. Oh how I wish it was the other way around and David Lynch directed it.

8. Executive Decision (1996)

R | 133 min | Action, Adventure, Thriller

62 Metascore

When terrorists seize control of an airliner, an intelligence analyst accompanies a commando unit for a midair boarding operation.

Director: Stuart Baird | Stars: Kurt Russell, Halle Berry, Steven Seagal, John Leguizamo

Votes: 61,599 | Gross: $56.57M

In one corner we have… Kurt Russell. His claim to pop culture fame is…

Rudy Russo. Snake Plissken. R.J. MacReady. Jack Burton. Gabriel Cash. Wyatt Earp. John Ruth. … and Captain Ron. And so many others.

In the other corner… snacking on something I can only hope wasn’t previously human… Steven Seagal (Crickets) “hey. I fucked Kelly Le Brock” (Crickets still)

Kurt Wins.

9. The Glimmer Man (1996)

R | 91 min | Action, Comedy, Crime

33 Metascore

Two cops are forced to work together to solve a chain of mysterious killings by a killer nicknamed "The Family Man".

Director: John Gray | Stars: Steven Seagal, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Bob Gunton, Brian Cox

Votes: 21,273 | Gross: $20.10M

Steven apparently saw “Se7en” and thought let’s do that but make it a convoluted mess involving the CIA and my massive ego. Also Seagal thinks he’s black now and he gets to share the screen with the great Brian Cox (enjoy it while it lasts)

10. Fire Down Below (1997)

R | 105 min | Action, Drama, Thriller

40 Metascore

A federal agent uncovers lucrative toxic waste dumps in Appalachia and must deal with the locals who want to keep their 'gold mine' secret.

Director: Félix Enríquez Alcalá | Stars: Steven Seagal, Kris Kristofferson, Marg Helgenberger, Stephen Lang

Votes: 19,088 | Gross: $16.23M

Seagal goes Appalachia, as an EPA agent… his current political stance is in alliance with Trump and the puppet master Putin, and the environment sure as shit didn’t benefit from the former being in power. But I digress, Steven gets to play guitar, wear colourful jackets and be a condescending hypocritical pick to the locals. What’s not to like.
