World of Westeros Franchise — Best Scrapped Universe Pitch?

Home Box Office thinks it has a winning hand with George R.R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' novels and related works. It believes it can mine the source material for a dozen or more TV series to air on its family of networks. Disney's has already proven this formula can work twice with both the Marvel and Star Wars franchises. HBO is treading very carefully to avoid any missteps, like those Game of Thrones (2011) encountered, when it outran its published source material. HBO is betting the bank that it can turn the multi-billion dollar success of the first "Game of Thrones" series into a World of Westeros universe that will bear fruit for decades.

As of 20 April 2022, thirteen known in-development Game of Thrones universe projects have yielded one series ordered, one series cancelled with only an unaired pilot, five series ideas that were scrapped and another six that are currently being vetted and whose status is "officially" undetermined. As the saying goes: "You've got to crack a few eggs to make an omelet."
