Gaga Oh Lala: A Star Is Snubbed

It was one of the most anticipated films of the year, in fact, one of the most anticipated roles. Long before the theatrical release of House of Gucci (2021), Lady Gaga was expected to give an Oscar-worthy release.

And the second trailer didn't disappoint. Gaga's "little monsters" had no doubt she was up to getting her second Oscar acting nomination. And if the film wasn't as critically successful as it was commercially, Gaga escaped the criticism and almost unanimously, the press praised her performance as Patrizia Reggiani.

Now to say that she was a strong Oscar contender during that award-season, would be an understatement, having hit every single major precursor (BAFTA, SAG, Critics Choice, Golden Globes etc.) she was a major frontrunner and the least likely to ever be snubbed. And yet it did happen.

Call it tough competition, bad luck or la forza del destino, the snub was such a shock that it made many jaws drop and not just the fans. From a pure rational and based-on-previous-statistics standpoint, it didn't make sense... or did it?

There are many theories regarding her snub but we'll dismiss those that are matters of 'opinion' regarding her performance.

Now, you might think she didn't deserve the Oscar, keep in mind she was nominated everywhere else, you might think the Academy doesn't like her, don't forget A Star Is Born (2018) so we're not asking for a commentary on her acting but a reason that might explain why that unpredictable snub did happen.

Which of these theories seems the most plausible?

It can be a combinations of factors; in that case vote for what you think is the main reason and then you might discuss the list here.
