Ranking All Attack on Titan Episodes
Best to worst from top to bottom. Also, I didn't include the Specials, because they are simply too long and very hard to compare against the other episodes.

- DirectorTetsurô ArakiShintarô ItogaHiroyuki TanakaStarsYûki KajiHiroshi KamiyaYui IshikawaWhile picking up the pieces from the costly battle, tensions rise when Captain Levi is forced to make an unthinkable choice. This is the best episode of the series. This was an episode where they gave the characters the hardest decision possible, and as a result, we get to see sides of them that we never saw before. It even forces the audience to choose, and the consequences of the actions taken in this episode have ripples that can still be felt all throughout Season 4. It's the most emotionally charged episode of the series for me, and Erwin's death will never not be sad. Absolutely devastating. I'll never stop asking the question: What if Levi chose Erwin?
- DirectorKouki AoshimaYûichirô HayashiJun ShishidoStarsYûki KajiTakehito KoyasuHiroshi TsuchidaZeke takes Eren through Grisha's memories to show him how he's been brainwashed. But in doing so, Zeke discovers something about Eren that he never knew. What do I need to say about this episode, man. Seeing all the past events of the series recontextualized is crazy, and the fucking plot twist had me freaking out. The whole series being a time loop is definitely something that I did not expect. Grisha hugging Zeke also had me tearing up.
- DirectorTetsurô ArakiTetsuya WakanoStarsYûki KajiDaisuke OnoHiroshi KamiyaWhile one front is rained on by flames, the other is battered by boulders. With no way out and limited options, the Scouts are forced to fight against the Titans with little hope left. What do I even need to say about this episode? It dominated IMDB ratings for a reason. Through it's runtime, you slowly see how the Scouts are forced into the worst situation possible, becoming more and more desperate and hopeless, before all culminating in the greatest TV speech ever. Erwin's final charge is fucking legendary, and the completion of his arc is masterfully done.
- DirectorMasashi KoizukaTetsurô ArakiAkitoshi YokoyamaStarsYûki KajiMarina InoueTomohisa HashizumeAs Erwin's heroic charge buys Levi time to confront the Beast Titan, Armin comes up with a plan of his own that lays it all on the line. The fallout of Erwin's charge is devastating, and Levi vs. Beast Titan is one of my favorite fights in the series. You have Reiner getting taken down, and also Armin literally getting burnt to a crisp to take down the Colossal, in one of the greatest scenes ever. Three titans neutralized in one episode is insane. If I had to decide on one single episode to be the climax of this series, this might be it.
- DirectorYûichirô HayashiNaoki MatsuuraJun ShishidoStarsYûki KajiTakehito KoyasuYôko HikasaEren and Zeke with their contradicted ethics and shattered emotions, clash on the credibility of their ideals while Ymir, the founder, discloses her tragic past and deepest secrets within the walls.Ymir's backstory is very interesting and it explains so much about the series that we didn't know. That's not even accounting for the second half of the episode, where the fucking Rumbling starts. It's one of the craziest and most shocking scenes in the whole series, enough to make anybody's jaw drop.
- DirectorYûichirô HayashiJun ShishidoStarsYûki KajiYui IshikawaMarina InoueAs the battle between Eren and the warriors rages on, another party makes their move on Marley's Forces that pushes the tide of the battle into a more devastating climax. One of the most epic episodes in the whole series. The Liberio Raid is so massive, and seeing all these faces that we know is very cool. Levi vs. Beast Titan Round 2 is pretty cool, and I'll never forget Armin fucking nuking the harbor.
- DirectorHidekazu HaraYûichirô HayashiMitsue YamazakiStarsYûki KajiYui IshikawaMarina InoueRegardless of where it all began, Eren commits to his path of destruction during the Scouts' first visit to the Marleyan mainland, leaving Mikasa to wonder if things could've been different. An episode that really focuses on Eren and his character growth. I love seeing the group's shenanigans in Liberio, but the best part of this episode is definitely the ending, no doubt. It's a top 3 scene in the whole series. Never has the Rumbling been more terrifying.
- DirectorYûichirô HayashiJun ShishidoStarsYûki KajiTakehito KoyasuDaiki YamashitaA look into Zeke's past shows his struggle to become a Warrior. His plans to end the suffering of all Eldians stem from a chance friendship made in his youth.Zeke's backstory might be the best in the whole story. Shit is so emotional. I also love his conversation with Eren at the end.
- DirectorYûichirô HayashiTeruyuki OmineJun ShishidoStarsYûki KajiYoshimasa HosoyaNatsuki HanaeEren confronts Reiner, while Willy Tybur gives a speech to the entire world in which he aims to solve the endless cycle of hate directed towards Eldians. An episode with the perfect amount of setup to reach an amazing climax right at the end. It's absolutely insane. I'll never forget the first time watching that final scene.
- DirectorTetsurô ArakiStarsYûki KajiHiroshi TsuchidaYasunori MatsumotoA look into Grisha's memories shows Eren the many secrets his father was hiding, including one which led to his mother's demise. The biggest bombshell in anime, right here. After three whole seasons of getting to know this 1800s early-industrial-revolution-esque setting, seeing a fucking zeppelin was mindblowing. So much information is given in one episode, a whole new world revealed, yet it feels effortless, and Grisha's story is so compelling.
- DirectorTetsurô ArakiMasashi KoizukaHiroyuki TanakaStarsYûki KajiYui IshikawaMarina InoueThe Scouts rest atop the wall, and in their departure, two of their own reveal an Earth-shattering secret to Eren. This episode hits even harder on a rewatch. The buildup is done so well, and the reveal just hits you like a truck. The last minute of this episode had me shitting my pants. I get PTSD from this episode.
- DirectorTetsurô ArakiTakayuki HiraoMasashi KoizukaStarsYûki KajiYui IshikawaMarina InoueWith a new enemy revealed, Eren and the Scouts fight back using all the techniques at their disposal. However, the Armored and Colossal Titan have other plans in mind.Eren vs. Armored Titan is so insanely hype and had me getting chills a bunch of times. I love the incorporation of IRL fighting and flashbacks to give the fight more nuance and meaning. The cliffhanger ending is amazing as well.
- DirectorYasuhiro AkamatsuTetsurô ArakiMasashi KoizukaStarsYûki KajiYui IshikawaMarina InoueWhile the recruits attempt to reason with Bertholdt, Commander Erwin charges forth in a desperate strategy to topple the Armored Titan.Erwin's charge in this episode is absolutely insane and it's one of the most epic scenes in all of anime. This was the episode that cemented him as my favorite character. The balls of this man to fight even after his arm is bitten off.
- DirectorTetsurô ArakiShintarô ItogaTetsuya WakanoStarsYûki KajiYui IshikawaMarina InoueThough it's met with hope and despair, the truth is made public. The Scouts then venture beyond the walls to see if it's everything they dreamed of.What an amazing way to end off the season. The ceremony is a great way to showcase the fallout after the death of literally the entire Scout Regiment, not to mention Eren kissing Historia's hand being the single most pivotal moment in the whole series. The ocean scene is so beautiful yet devastating at the same time, and one of my favorite scenes in the whole series.
- DirectorYûichirô HayashiJun ShishidoStarsYûki KajiAyane SakuraNatsuki HanaeAs Zeke's plans come to light and the Jaegerists move in, the two warrior fugitives have their identities uncovered.Nicolo and his moral dilemma with trying to kill Gabi and everything is very compelling and it's one of the more emotional parts of this series. Eren showing up is cool too.
- DirectorTetsurô ArakiTakayuki HiraoYoshihide IbataStarsYûki KajiYui IshikawaMarina InoueEren's confrontation with a smiling Titan raises questions about his powers, but any answers will come at a cost.Eren's breakdown is one of my favorite scenes in the series (holy shit, props to the voice actor), and Hanne's death is pretty sad. It's a great season finale, but the random sexual tension between Eren and Mikasa in the middle of a battlefield while everyone is dying around them is weird.
- DirectorYasuhiro AkamatsuTetsurô ArakiMasashi KoizukaStarsYûki KajiYui IshikawaMarina InoueDesperate to stop the approaching monstrosity, the Scouts resort to unconventional tactics before it destroys everything in its path.I love how menacing Rod Reiss's titan is and the fight with him is one of my favorite in the whole series. Peak episode.
- DirectorYûichirô HayashiTeruyuki OmineJun ShishidoStarsYui IshikawaMarina InoueKenshô OnoThe Azumabito's flying boat is guarded by a port full of Jaegerists, but the Scouts are reluctant to kill their former friends. If they wish to avoid bloodshed, they can't afford their plan to go wrong. The attack on the base is epic as hell especially when the titans come in, but for me the best moment was the end, where Connie finally betrays his former friends. That moment hit hard.
- DirectorTetsurô ArakiHitomi EzoeShingo UchidaStarsYûki KajiYui IshikawaMarina InoueThough their Thunder Spears prove effective, the Scouts' celebration is short-lived as disaster descends upon Shiganshina.I love the opening that shows us exactly how Marco died, and overall this episode focuses on Bertholdt. The scene where he nukes Shiganshina is fucking amazing.
- DirectorYûichirô HayashiJun ShishidoStarsYûki KajiAyane SakuraYui IshikawaAs the Jaegerists take over, Eren has a tense altercation with Armin and Mikas. Levi is faced with an unforeseen circumstance.Eren absolutely destroying his friends is a great scene, and Levi vs. Zeke in the forest is pretty insane too. The revelation of the wine poisoning is crazy.
- DirectorYûichirô HayashiTeruyuki OmineJun ShishidoStarsYûki KajiTakehito KoyasuYoshimasa HosoyaColt pleads with Zeke to not use his scream and turn Falco into a Titan. All the while, soldiers and Titans clash in battle as Eren struggles to make contact with his brother. The dynamic between Eren and Zeke has never been better than in this episode. It's the climax of the Shiganshina battle, and Gabi shooting Eren was a very shocking moment. If I'm not mistaken, we see the Paths here for the first time too.
- DirectorYûichirô HayashiMitsue YamazakiJun ShishidoStarsKishô TaniyamaRomi ParkMitsuki SaigaDeep in the forest, an unlikely rabble of Marley stragglers and island fugitives attempt to set their hatred aside and talk around a campfire without killing each other.Honestly I fucking love this episode. Everybody literally sits in a circle around a campfire and talks to each other. It's one of the best episodes for character growth, especially with Jean.
- 2013–202324mTV-MA9.3 (24K)TV EpisodeDirectorTetsurô ArakiShintarô ItogaMasashi KoizukaStarsYûki KajiMarina InoueYui IshikawaEren goes head-to-head with the Female Titan in a fight that demolishes Stohess District inside Wall Sina. As the number of casualties multiplies and Annie tries to escape over the wall, Erwin must deal with the consequences of his plan. The fight between Eren and Annie in Stohess is epic as hell and I also love the nice, satisfying way that Season 1 wrapped up.
- DirectorYûichirô HayashiJun ShishidoStarsYûki KajiYui IshikawaKishô TaniyamaAs the Attack Titan rampages, several people are crushed to death. While all of this is going on, the War Hammer Titan appears to confront Eren. The raid on Liberio is very exciting and the War Hammer Titan and Eren have a cool fight.
- DirectorYûichirô HayashiJun ShishidoStarsYui IshikawaKishô TaniyamaHiro ShimonoFor the flying boat to take off, the mechanics need half a day to service it. Knowing they'll never last that long with Jaegerist reinforcements on the way, the crew is forced to change their plans. This is where the fight really ramps up and we get some amazing action. Annie and Reiner fighting together is cool as hell and we also get to see Floch die (but not really). The last scene with Shadis and Magath's death is also kinda emotional too.
