- DirectorBenny SafdieJosh SafdieStarsRobert PattinsonBenny SafdieJennifer Jason LeighAfter a botched bank robbery lands his younger brother in prison, Connie Nikas embarks on a twisted odyssey through New York City's underworld to get his brother Nick out of jail.God what a ride! Amazing screenplay with such tense and anxiety inducing moments. Everything the characters do makes them feel like real people rather than characters. The camera work is claustrophobic and helps a lot in stylism and the tone of the film. Robert Pattinson's acting is just beautiful. Watch it.
- DirectorRian JohnsonStarsDaniel CraigEdward NortonKate HudsonTech billionaire Miles Bron invites his friends for a getaway on his private Greek island. When someone turns up dead, Detective Benoit Blanc is put on the case.I'm always skeptical of sequels that aren't necessary, so naturally I expected this movie to be bad, I was wrong. This movie is so much fun. Is it a masterpiece? No. Is it perfect? No. But who cares. It's a genre film through and through, and the murder mystery is so amazing. Benoit Blanc is such a fun character, and the rest of the cast brings the movie to life. The production design is amazing and the music just adds so much to the film. If people are telling you that this movie is worse than the original, ignore them. It's just fun, give it a watch.
- DirectorMartin McDonaghStarsColin FarrellBrendan GleesonKerry CondonTwo lifelong friends find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship, with alarming consequences for both of them.Beautifully shot, music beautifully composed, acting phenomenally presented. This movie is just so one of a kind. I cannot understate how good the acting is, the characters are so well put together and the whole story just keeps you glued to it. Give this one a watch. Definitely one of my recent favorites.
- DirectorRoger AllersRob MinkoffStarsMatthew BroderickJeremy IronsJames Earl JonesLion prince Simba and his father are targeted by his bitter uncle, who wants to ascend the throne himself.Despite knowing the entire story beat for beat, I gave this a watch for the first time recently and now I understand why it's a classic. The 2019 version is a giant piece of shit. Nothing can replace the absolute perfection that this movie is, the music, the performances, the animation. It all holds up and it's beautiful. Show this to your kids instead of the 2019 emotionless bullshit version.
- DirectorZoya AkhtarStarsAnil KapoorShefali ShahPriyanka Chopra JonasThe Mehra family must contemplate over their way of living and their love lives while on a cruise celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary.Holy shit. I went into this movie expecting mediocrity and when it comes to camerawork it was pretty mediocre (except for the whole Galla Gudiya song) but everything else was so good. The entire cast was so fun (except for Noori), the humor hit, the drama was so well written and realistic, it's just such a well put together experience. Anil Kapoor was overacting here and there but it's not too distracting. Overall I really like this movie and I'll surely watch it again!
- DirectorAbhishek PathakStarsAjay DevgnAkshaye KhannaTabuA gripping tale of an investigation and a family which is threatened by it. Will Vijay Salgaonkar be able to protect his family this time?Aaaaaghhhh. I really wanted to like this one. I already wasn't a huge fan of the first one, and I had a lot of the same complaints with this one. The characters motivations are sussy, Nandini SUCKS as a character, she can choke. She only exists to create problems into the story. There's so many plot conveniences, characters introduced just to create new problems, just so much stuff that happens for no reason whatsoever other than move the story. Things don't progress naturally, the music is overly insistent, the dialogue just spoon feeds shit to you. Akshay Khanna made it watchable but even then his dialogue was very cheesy. I will never watch it again and if there's a third installment I won't watch that either.
- DirectorDaniel KwanDaniel ScheinertStarsMichelle YeohStephanie HsuJamie Lee CurtisA middle-aged Chinese immigrant is swept up into an insane adventure in which she alone can save existence by exploring other universes and connecting with the lives she could have led.My god. I have never seen a movie like this and probably never will again. I won't say anything about the plot because I want everyone to watch this without knowing anything like I did. The action is so good, the acting is phenomenal, the sfx are out of this world, the drama is so SO good. This movie has the power to make you laugh one second and cry the second. I love it so much, it might not be for everyone, but it was perfect for me. Give it a chance please.
- DirectorDanny BoyleStarsCillian MurphyNaomie HarrisChristopher EcclestonFour weeks after a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK, a handful of survivors try to find sanctuary.I'll be honest, I'm a Cillian Murphy simp, and a horror movie fan, so I knew I'd like this movie, needless to say, I did. The presentation of the movie is claustrophobic and artistic, the music is great, the characters are fine and the acting is great. There's a couple of conveniences but that's fine. I was uncomfortable by just HOW MUCH Cillian Murphy had to be shirtless and naked but I'm sure he was fine with it. This movie is well made, well put together, stylistic and gripping. Give it a watch!
- DirectorEdgar WrightStarsAnsel ElgortJon BernthalJon HammAfter being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.Just another fun and entertaining Edgar Wright joint. Amazing camera work as always, Wright makes other directors look lazy with the way he films things, the colors are so beautiful throughout this film, the characters are fun, the action and car chases are wonderfully coordinated and I can't sing enough praises about the music. Give this one a watch for sure
- DirectorMark MylodStarsRalph FiennesAnya Taylor-JoyNicholas HoultA young couple travels to a remote island to eat at an exclusive restaurant where the chef has prepared a lavish menu, with some shocking surprises.Ok this movie isn't perfect but it's such a gripping experience. The cast is full of absolute gems, Anya Taylor Joy is such a treat to watch as always, Ralph Fiennes was menacing as hell and the acting in general was one of the strongest suits of this film along with the humour. The music by Colin Stetson fit the movie perfectly. The setting and plot of the movie is great and the satire is just so on point. It's just an overall very enjoyable film. If you're a horror fan, I'd recommend it for sure.
- DirectorChad StahelskiStarsKeanu ReevesLaurence FishburneGeorge GeorgiouJohn Wick uncovers a path to defeating The High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes.Watched this in theaters, first movie I've watched in theaters since Avengers Endgame, and boy this was an experience. Despite being the longest in the entire series, this one doesn't feel like it at all, it's well paced, quick and to the point. The cinematography is out of this world, each and every action sequence is so well choreographed, so distinct, the set pieces are amazing, the production design is just mind blowing. If this movie isn't nominated for an Oscar for best cinematography, then the Oscars are a sham. I have a couple gripes with the ending but I'm willing to overlook them just because of how good the rest of the film is. Watch this in theaters please.
- DirectorPete DocterDavid SilvermanLee UnkrichStarsBilly CrystalJohn GoodmanMary GibbsIn order to power the city, monsters have to scare children so that they scream. However, the children are toxic to the monsters, and after a child gets through, two monsters realize things may not be what they think.I've seen this movie before but not fully, so just sitting down and completing it was a new experience and needless to say, it's great, it's a classic, funny, with great music, and it's enjoyable even to me, a 19 year old. Give it a watch!
- DirectorMartin McDonaghStarsFrances McDormandWoody HarrelsonSam RockwellA mother personally challenges the local authorities to solve her daughter's murder when they fail to catch the culprit.Wow. This movie is so raw, so important and so great. The main character feels real, the supporting cast is great. The acting is phenomenal, the music accents the movie wonderfully, and the cinematography is just wonderful. There's a few drops of humor in this very serious movie and they don't feel out of place at all. The plot is full of twists and turns that don't feel like they exist solely for shock value. I can't recommend this movie to everyone because of its heavy subject material, but it truly is great. Give this a watch if you want!
- DirectorWes CravenStarsRachel McAdamsCillian MurphyBrian CoxA woman is kidnapped by a stranger on a routine flight. Threatened by the potential murder of her father, she is pulled into a plot to assist her captor in a political assassination. It seems that my celebrity crushes have started affecting my movie watching habits because guess what, I watched ANOTHER movie just for Cillian Murphy and no I don't regret it. Rachel McAdams was wonderful in her role and so was Cillian, the characters were fun. Overall the movie was pretty enjoyable, it's not a masterpiece, but it's more than watchable. I love how it starts out like a romcom which lulls you into a false sense of comfort and then goes full on hostage situation. Give this a watch if you wanna watch a decent movie that won't require much brain power, but I won't be mad if you skip this one.
- DirectorGreta GerwigStarsSaoirse RonanLaurie MetcalfTracy LettsIn 2002, an artistically inclined 17-year-old girl comes of age in Sacramento, California. This movie feels so real. A lot of people will think nothing happens in this movie and that it's overhyped, but you need certain life experiences to enjoy this movie (more specifically, you need a strained relationship with your mother). Everyone in this movie just feels like real people, as if I know them in another life. Their actions are justifiable and you truly feel for them so much. As a debut, this movie is amazing. It's a very cathartic film, so please do watch it if you want.
- DirectorMark WatersStarsLindsay LohanJonathan BennettRachel McAdamsCady Heron is a hit with The Plastics, the A-list girl clique at her new school, until she makes the mistake of falling for Aaron Samuels, the ex-boyfriend of alpha Plastic Regina George.Now.. did I watch this movie because I have a crush on Rachel McAdams? You can't prove it, but man this movie was way more enjoyable than I expected. Yes, there's a lot wrong with it, namely the villainization of hyper femininity, and the casual racism towards asians. However, the rest of the movie is really good. The humour lands perfectly, the characters are distinct and fun, and the outfits are so well put together. It's a classic for a reason and if you're aware of the criticisms, you'll appreciate this film for sure.
- DirectorDavid FrankelStarsAnne HathawayMeryl StreepAdrian GrenierA smart but sensible new graduate lands a job as an assistant to Miranda Priestly, the demanding editor-in-chief of a high fashion magazine.Meryl Streep was so slay in this, I love Anne Hathaway. Fuck Nate.
- DirectorFarhan AkhtarStarsShah Rukh KhanPriyanka Chopra JonasArjun RampalVijay is recruited by a police officer to masquerade as his lookalike Don, the leader of an international gang of smugglers. Things go wrong when the officer is killed and Vijay is left to fend for himself.*sigh*
Yes, I didn't really like this one. Don't get me wrong, the music is great, the actors are great, but this movie is just way too long and way too stretched out to be fun. Also it looks like absolute dookie. The colour grading absolutely sucks, making everything looks flat and faded out. I hate the ending too, it's stupid and nullified a lot of emotional investment. I don't know if I'll watch the sequel. You can probably skip this one. - DirectorA.R. MurugadossStarsAamir KhanAsin ThottumkalJiah KhanA short-term memory loss patient goes on a killing spree in order to avenge the death of his ladylove. Now, I've wanted to watch this movie for a while because I've heard it being praised by Indian audiences, so I gathered some of my mates and we all watched it together... I was disappointed. The pacing is so HORRENDOUS in this movie, the humour doesn't land a lot of the time, the acting is a bit goofy and the background music is overwhelming. The premise itself isn't even original, there was a good movie in here somewhere, but all the extra padding and stupidity just made my rating plummet. I just wish they trimmed an hour off this movie.
- DirectorLouis LeterrierStarsJesse EisenbergCommonMark RuffaloAn FBI agent and an Interpol detective track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances, and reward their audiences with the money.Now.. please don't hate me.. I really enjoyed this film, it's fun and enjoyable and entertaining, but it has a lot of flaws. The weird and stupid romance thing between the lead detectives made me roll my eyes, it added nothing to the plot, added nothing to the characters, just made me angry. And now for my biggest gripe, the ending twist, it made no sense, came out of nowhere and basically retconned the whole movie. Also a lot of the tricks are just impossible so yea there's that. All in all, I probably won't watch this movie anytime soon but if you're into shallow movies where you don't have to use your brain and just wanna be entertained, go for it.
- DirectorGreta GerwigStarsSaoirse RonanEmma WatsonFlorence PughJo March reflects back and forth on her life, telling the beloved story of the March sisters - four young women, each determined to live life on her own terms.I'm gonna get this out of the way, the costumes suck. They kept taking me out of the movie as well as the hairstyling. Other than that, Emma Watson was a bit distracting, I didn't buy her as a character, Florence Pugh playing an elementary school kid was laughably unbelievable, but other than that everything was pretty great. Not my favourite for sure but I definitely enjoyed it. If you're a fan of period pieces (but don't care about costuming and hair) you'll probably enjoy this one.
- DirectorSanjay GadhviStarsHrithik RoshanAbhishek BachchanAishwarya Rai BachchanBack in action DHOOM:2 reinvents the action comedy genre and propels it into the 21st century. Go on and enjoy the ride once again with Jai and Ali.Watched this one with my mates just because it was a pretty big moment in Indian pop culture, and yea it's fun, the heists are pretty inventive, Aishwarya Rai and Hritik Roshan are great, the music slaps, but my god the pacing is bad. Bipasha Basu's character having a twin for no reason at all is goofy, Ali as a character is mega goofy but he's funny so I'll let it pass. Jai Dixit is apparently omniscient, he just knows everything when there's no possible way to know things. Abhishek Bacchan doesn't really fit the badass cop archetype, he just doesn't have the charisma or personality for it. Overall the movie was fun, it's just badly paced and very stupid, so if you don't have a problem with that, give it a watch.
- DirectorDavid DhawanStarsVarun DhawanIleana D'CruzNargis FakhriSeenu and Sunaina fall in love with each other when he saves her from a corrupt policeman who wishes to marry her. Meanwhile, Ayesha, a girl Seenu meets on a train journey, wants to marry him.Yea... don't ask me why I watched this. Watched this with my mates, yea it's bad. Varun Dhawan is horribly miscast, he can't act, he's not funny, any scene with him overacting just makes me cringe, and he's easily the worst part of the movie. Some of the characters are fun, Angad and Balli specifically are very fun characters. But if it wasn't for my childhood nostalgia, I'd hate this movie.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsLeonardo DiCaprioTom HanksChristopher WalkenBarely 17 yet, Frank is a skilled forger who has passed as a doctor, lawyer and pilot. FBI agent Carl becomes obsessed with tracking down the con man, who only revels in the pursuit. It's a classic, it's great. Loved watching it, its insane to think that this is a real story, the acting by DiCaprio is brilliant, the music is good, the styling and costuming specifically is also pretty great (a little historically inaccurate but I digress). Give this one a watch for sure!
- DirectorJames GunnStarsLuke KleinSean GunnMichael RookerStar-Lord, Drax, Rocket, Mantis, and Groot engage in some spirited shenanigans in an all-new original special created for Disney+.Yea this is genuinely one of the worst things I've watched this year, it felt like it was made on a budget of three dollars, it's pacing was bad, the acting was annoying, the story was just meh and the music was bad.
- DirectorVijay LalwaniStarsFarhan AkhtarDeepika PadukoneRam KapoorA much abused loner achieves success, and even wins the heart of his gorgeous co-worker, after getting early morning mysterious phone calls from someone. This movie surprised me by how good it was. There's a few goofs with the mental health information, things are portrayed as schizophrenia when it's more dissociative identity disorder but whatever, the movie is interesting, the acting is brilliant, the music is amazing and the visuals are appealing.
- DirectorLuv RanjanStarsRanbir KapoorNushrratt BharucchaKartik AaryanMadness ensues when a 'player' in the world of romantic relationships finds a girl who's a worthy opponent, that believes love is a battle of wits.I hate this movie, I watched it basically at gunpoint. It's bad, the acting is bad except like two scenes, and even then the acting is ruined by the idiotic character writing. Bassi is pretty much the only tolerable thing about this movie. Shraddha Kapoor can't play a good 'playgirl'. This movie did have some potential and if handled by competent writers, I think it could've been done pretty well, but alas, this is Luv Ranjan. Needless to say, I will never watch this movie again, if fact, I am actively trying to erase it from my memory, don't watch this movie, thank you
- DirectorJames GunnStarsChris PrattChukwudi IwujiBradley CooperStill reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill rallies his team to defend the universe and one of their own - a mission that could mean the end of the Guardians if not successful. My god. What a ride. This movie surpassed my expectations by miles. Seeing the state of the MCU in Phase 4, I was expecting a mid movie with some good scenes, instead I got an amazing movie with like two mid scenes. The emotions hit hard with this movie, the violence feels insane when it comes to MCU standards (in a good way) and of course, the music slaps. I was fighting back tears at multiple scenes, and also laughing out loud at many scenes, this movie is just so well done and the ending couldn't have been better. If your trust has been taken away by the MCU because of all the mid to downright bad movies lately, this one will feel like a breath of fresh air.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsGuy PearceCarrie-Anne MossJoe PantolianoA man with short-term memory loss attempts to track down his wife's murderer.Just wow. Now I'll admit, my brain is a little bit empty so it took a LOT of brain cells to sit through this whole movie but my god it's so good. The way of storytelling is purposeful and compelling, the writing is absolutely brilliant, and the direction is beautiful. This movie put Christopher Nolan onto the map and now I understand why. Truly one of my favourite works of his.
- DirectorRobert LuketicStarsReese WitherspoonLuke WilsonSelma BlairElle Woods, a fashionable sorority queen, is dumped by her boyfriend. She decides to follow him to law school. While she is there, she figures out that there is more to her than just looks.I know this movie isn't a masterpiece, but man I really enjoyed it. The costumes were beautiful, the set design was great, the characters are all so fun and the moral is something I can get behind. I love how this movie doesn't pit women against each other which is what you see a lot in movies like this. The music is fun and fits the movie well. I'll rewatch this one some day for sure!
- DirectorMeghna GulzarStarsAlia BhattVicky KaushalRajit KapoorA Kashmiri woman agrees to marry a Pakistani army officer in order to spy on Pakistan during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971.I'd watched this movie back when it first came out when I had very little media literacy and all I remembered was that it's good, so I rewatched it expecting very little, but my god I was so pleasantly surprised. The drama is so well written in this story, the pacing is amazing, the music is great and the acting is so good too. I really love this movie and I think it's a very compelling story that people should watch.
- DirectorBrad BirdJan PinkavaStarsBrad GarrettLou RomanoPatton OswaltA rat who can cook makes an unusual alliance with a young kitchen worker at a famous Paris restaurant.Such a great rat movie, it's super well animated even by modern standards. It's a classic, not much to say about it other than that it's great!
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsCillian MurphyEmily BluntMatt DamonThe story of American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer and his role in the development of the atomic bomb.Man.
Watching this movie in an Imax theatre was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This movie was MADE for cinemas. I've been waiting for this movie ever since the cast was announced. Cillian Murphy has given the performance of a lifetime and if he doesn't at least get nominated for an Oscar, the Oscars are a sham.
The cinematography is beautiful. The pacing and editing is my biggest gripe with this movie but it didn't stop me from enjoying this movie a lot. Florence Pugh was a little underutilized but that's just a nitpick because I'm a stan. The music MADE this movie. It fits the movie perfectly and while some people say it's a little excessive, I think it was needed to maintain the tense atmosphere. The ending gave me goosebumps. Loved this movie and I'll surely watch it again. - DirectorGreta GerwigStarsMargot RobbieRyan GoslingIssa RaeBarbie and Ken are having the time of their lives in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans. This movie is amazing. The humor is so fun, Ryan Gosling is a treasure, and the meta jokes land well. The production design is so good, the soundtrack is a BANGER. Margot Robbie is amazing as always. I'll admit it, I cried at the end. I understand why some people couldn't connect with this movie, but I sure as hell did. I can't wait to watch this again once it drops on streaming services. Stream Speed Drive by Charli XCX.
- DirectorShoojit SircarStarsDeepika PadukoneAmitabh BachchanIrrfan KhanA quirky comedy about the relationship between a daughter and her aging father, whose eccentricities drive everyone crazy. This movie just feels so real. It feels warm and cozy and sometimes uncomfortable. I love all of the acting and the music. It's just a little slice of life movie that can be anyone's comfort film.
- DirectorPaul SoterStarsCillian MurphyLucy LiuJason SudeikisA film noir buff to the extreme is given a taste of his own medicine and has his life turned upside down by a kooky femme fatale with a big adventure in mind. Sometimes love is stranger than fiction.Ok
I know this movie is stupid, it's just a stupid little romcom, but my god I loved this movie so much. It's just really funny and the concept is so goofy. The acting is just right for the tone, I love Cillian Murphy and Lucy Liu so much, I'll surely watch this movie again. - DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsJames McAvoyAnya Taylor-JoyHaley Lu RichardsonThree girls are kidnapped by a man with a diagnosed 23 distinct personalities. They must try to escape before the apparent emergence of a frightful new 24th.If there's anything to take away from this movie it's that James McAvoy is an incredible actor. He was the highlight of this movie and I loved him in this role. Anya Taylor Joy also did a great job in her role. There are a couple of weak performances and a few stupid decisions made by certain characters but overall it's a pretty enjoyable film.
- DirectorAmit RaiStarsAkshay KumarPankaj TripathiYami GautamAn unhappy civilian asks the court to mandate comprehensive education in schools in a dramatic yet amusing courtroom play. This movie is so important for India. Despite the censoring this movie turned out so well. The crowd was cheering and laughing at so many scenes. This movie deals with such important subjects in such a beautiful way. I think every Indian should watch this movie, not coming from a place of nationalism, but from a place of education. PLEASE watch this film. I can't wait for the uncensored version to come out one day hopefully.
- DirectorTaika WaititiStarsRoman Griffin DavisThomasin McKenzieScarlett JohanssonA young German boy in the Hitler Youth whose hero and imaginary friend is the country's dictator is shocked to discover that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their home. This movie looks so good, the acting is great. the humor is great which just puts you off guard for long enough to get absolutely obliterated by the emotional bits of this movie. It does a great job of deconstructing anti-semitic ideology funnily. I guess this can be called Taika Waititi's Inglourious Basterds.
- DirectorFrank DarabontStarsThomas JaneMarcia Gay HardenLaurie HoldenA freak storm unleashes a species of bloodthirsty creatures on a small town, where a small band of citizens hole up in a supermarket and fight for their lives.I loved the first hour of this movie. The scares were effective, I liked the tone, and the vague threat of a mist, it was all just right up my alley. The religious fanatic character was so hateable and she made a great antagonist. However, the ending SUCKS. I absolutely HATE the ending. It's STUPID. I don't care that it's supposed to be bleak or whatnot, I love bleak endings but only if they're done well. Also, the main guy's acting is bad, I'm sorry.
- DirectorAng LeeStarsJake GyllenhaalHeath LedgerMichelle WilliamsEnnis and Jack are two shepherds who develop a sexual and emotional relationship. Their relationship becomes complicated when both of them get married to their respective girlfriends. Why did I watch this movie when I didn't want to watch any sad movies? This movie is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. The skies look so beautiful that they look unreal. Jake Gyllenhaal was robbed of an Oscar. I love this story, Heath Ledger was so good that it feels unreal and I can't wait to rewatch this movie and be sad again. This movie hurts but it hurts so good. anyone who doesn't like this movie is a homophobe /j.
- DirectorMichel GondryStarsJim CarreyKate WinsletTom WilkinsonWhen their relationship turns sour, a couple undergoes a medical procedure to have each other erased from their memories forever.Wow. Just wow.
This movie is so good, it's a masterpiece. The acting is brilliant, the story is brilliant, and the visuals are out of this world. It rarely happens that I want to rewatch a movie as soon as it's over, but it happened with this one. I cannot wait to watch this movie again. - DirectorJordan PeeleStarsLupita Nyong'oWinston DukeElisabeth MossAdelaide Wilson and her family are attacked by mysterious figures dressed in red. Upon closer inspection, the Wilsons realize that the intruders are exact lookalikes of them.I loved Nope and Get Out and nothing changes with this movie. Loved this movie too. It starts relatively normal, by the books home invasion movie but I love what they did with the intruder's voice and just how unhinged it all becomes towards the end. The acting is incredible. There are quite a few effective scares. Capitalism bad.
- DirectorOlivia WildeStarsFlorence PughHarry StylesChris PineWhile her husband leaves home everyday to work in a top secret facility, a young 1950s housewife begins to question her life when she notices strange behavior from the other wives in the neighborhood.I put off watching this movie for so long because I'd heard it was bad but I still wanted to watch it because I love Florence Pugh, and yea it's pretty bad. Harry Styles' acting is BAD. Any scene where he had to show any emotion was so funny. Karsten Runquist said it best, it seems like Harry watched a bunch of "best acting" YouTube compilations and tried to emulate that. Florence Pugh as usual was incredible, she's the saving grace of this movie, her performance brings this desperateness and urgency that's very much needed in this movie. The rest of the actors are fine. There are a lot of loose plot lines in this movie that could've been solved very easily with another scene or two. Apparently, there are a lot of deleted scenes that explain some things, I feel like those should've been included instead of the very long sex scenes that add absolutely nothing. The cinematography is pretty good, visually this movie looks pretty great, the music is alright. SPOILERS: Why the hell did Shelley kill Frank? For power? It comes out of nowhere. Was the red airplane real or was it a manifestation of Alice's confusion about Margaret? When Alice reached the headquarters she must've woken up and Jack must've put her back into the simulation but then why does he act shocked when she mentions she went to the headquarters during the dinner scene?? Why was a confrontation between Frank and Alice so hyped up when it ultimately leads to nothing? God this movie is so weird. This movie seemingly doesn't explain a lot but also beats you over the head with a lot of its themes. I didn't think it was bad because ultimately I had fun watching Florence Pugh. It had a lot of potential that I feel would've been truly realized if this movie had someone like Ari Aster or Jordan Peele as a director. Meh.
- DirectorWilliam FriedkinStarsEllen BurstynMax von SydowLinda BlairWhen a young girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two Catholic priests to save her life. This movie makes me go into pretentious film nerd mode. I watched it for the first time and my god this is a classic for a reason. The acting was so good that I forgot they were acting multiple times. Linda Blair is obviously brilliant but Jason Miller's performance really connected with me. The atmosphere is so palpable. they just don't make movies like this anymore. There's so much that still feels disturbing even though this movie came out 50 years ago. It's not just a great horror movie, first and foremost, it's a great movie, period. This movie is revolutionary for it's time and the fact that it still holds up speaks volumes as to what it has achieved. I've fallen in love with this one and I cannot wait to recommend it to absolutely every horror fan I know.
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsKurt RussellWilford BrimleyKeith DavidA research team in Antarctica is hunted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of its victims.Among Us: The Movie except I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight. This movie feels so outlandish yet so real. The setting is amazing. The mistrust and tension is SO WELL DONE. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The gore effects were so well done that it makes me sad about the current state of practical effects in horror movies. Everyone just uses CGI now and this movie is a testament to how good practical effects always look. This movie has become an instant favourite for me.
- DirectorKonkona Sen SharmaStarsKalki KoechlinVikrant MasseyGulshan DevaiahLife for a shy young Indian student slowly falls to pieces during a family road trip. This movie for me is...complicated. The dialogue feels a little stiff, mostly because everyone is talking in English for some reason, it just felt a little too formal sometimes. The dubbing was also very weird. However, visually this movie is so beautiful. It looks calming and uplifting, juxtaposing the state of our protagonist. Also, the score of this movie is so great, it fits the film perfectly. I think the characters were pretty well written, I liked the ending and we can all relate to the main character Shutu at least once in our lifetime. I think I might like this movie when I'm in a different mindset, but for now, I still like it a lot.
- DirectorAbhinay DeoAkshat VermaStarsImran KhanVir DasKunaal Roy KapurThree struggling room-mates unknowingly become potential prey of a ruthless gangster.I LOVE this movie. Watched it with a few friends and my god I didn't expect this movie to be this good. There are so many clever jokes and a lot of reincorporation, and the acting is great (barring a couple of scenes of Imran Khan and Kunaal Roy Kapur). The music is banger after BANGER. This movie is absolutely HILARIOUS. I love the humour of this film, everything just feels so crisp and concise, there's not a single line of dialogue that feels like a waste. PLEASE just watch this movie.
- DirectorJoaquim Dos SantosKemp PowersJustin K. ThompsonStarsShameik MooreHailee SteinfeldBrian Tyree HenryMiles Morales catapults across the multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. When the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles must redefine what it means to be a hero. This movie is a marvel of creative animation. I think this movie will change how people view animation and the whole industry in general. The voice acting is great, the music is great, and the story is serviceable. In a pool of multiverse movies, this one definitely stands out. I do not like the cliffhanger, I think it should've been made a bit clearer in the marketing but hopefully the next one comes soon and the animators are treated well.
- DirectorAli Abbas ZafarStarsSalman KhanAnushka SharmaRandeep HoodaSultan is a classic underdog tale about a wrestler's journey, looking for a comeback by defeating all odds.Watched this with my mates. It's a fairly standard movie, the writing could've been better but hands down the best part of this movie is Salman Khan. I hate to praise him, but he did do a good job in this movie, which makes me wonder why he doesn't put effort into his other movies :/. There's a bit of over reliance on background music but that's just an observation with most Bollywood movies. The fight scenes are great and overall, it's a pretty solid and enjoyable movie.
- DirectorSandeep Reddy VangaStarsShahid KapoorKiara AdvaniNikita DuttaAn exalted but short-fused surgeon plunges into a spiral of drugs, alcohol and rage after his intense relationship with his girlfriend turbulently ends. This is gonna be a long one lads, strap in
This movie is painful to watch as a woman, even more painful when you're watching this and the men watching it with you keep saying "omg literally me" semi ironically.
Let's start with women actually.
Preeti is not a character; she's just written as an extension of Kabir, she has no authority, she just goes along with whatever the fuck is happening to her. While yes, feminist thought says that not all women have to be outspoken, they're in fact, allowed to be submissive, however, this sect of feminist thought does not apply to this movie since there was not a single woman in the writing room, it was all just men who viewed Kabir as a chad.
Preeti is treated as an object since the beginning, a goal for Kabir to conquer, a trophy to protect. She says nothing about Kabir's advances, doesn't protest to his downright harassment. She only exists in the story to serve Kabir and his interests. As soon as she's done being a trophy to conquer and there needs to be conflict, her father becomes a problem for Kabir to overcome, somewhat of an unachievable task. The whole movie you're led to believe there might be a huge confrontation between Preeti's father and Kabir where they talk out their differences or some sort of a standoff climax. nope.
The problem solves itself in the end. How? Nobody fucking knows. The dad is just ok with them now. Mind you this is less than a year after they all beat the shit out of Kabir.
Now let's come to Kabir. I absolutely love morally grey characters, so my hate for Kabir doesn't come from the fact that he's not a good person, but that he faces no repercussions for most of his acts of being a bad person. The only flaws of his that are addressed by other characters of the movie are his anger issues and his drug addiction. Everything else? A-ok. He slaps Preeti, yells at her, berates her, treats her like an object rather than a whole other person, disregards the lack of consent multiple times and all of this is NEVER addressed. He terrorizes his house help just for breaking a glass and it's played for comedic value. Yes, Preeti slaps Kabir back at the end, but does that make everything ok? What guarantees Kabir won't resort to his abusive ways farther into their marriage? Is the solution for that to just slap him back?
The whole world in this movie revolves around Kabir. Don't say that's how movies are supposed to treat main characters. The characters, main or otherwise are supposed to be part of the movie's universe, not the whole universe itself. Every single character basically forgets about their own life to help Kabir. His brother ON HIS WEDDING does not care that Kabir isn't present.
The hardships he faces after losing Preeti are what a lot of people praise about this movie but never for a single second did I ever feel bad for him. It was his own actions that made him end up this way, and now the audience is supposed to feel sad for him? No.
Even if we disregard the stupid fucking characters, the plot is mid, the only good thing about this movie is the soundtrack and Shahid Kapoor's acting, the editing is weirdly choppy, there's so many awkward scene transitions. I just pray to God that I don't have to watch this movie again.
Fuck Kabir, fuck Preeti, fuck every single character in this movie, I hate the fact that this movie has become a beacon for so many incels now. - DirectorRaj MehtaStarsAkshay KumarKareena KapoorDiljit DosanjhTwo couples with the same surname pursue in-vitro fertilization and wait for their upcoming babies. Trouble ensues when they find that the sperms of each couple have been mixed with each other.Watched this with my mates, it's just about what I'd expected but a little bit better (and also worse). First the good stuff, the emotional beats were pretty well done and a lot of the comedy was pretty funny. Now, the bad. There's this weird pro life agenda throughout the beginning of the movie pushed by one of the fertility doctors which, if it happened irl, would probably get that doctor's license revoked. A lot of the comedy is Akshay Kumar not liking his wife or thinking her valid emotions are dumb, very much Whatsapp forward comedy vibes. I counted two jokes in the beginning directly taken from BB Ki Vines lmao. The level of comedy isn't that great but it's still funny if you have a couple screws loose, which thankfully I do. There's also a LOT of classism. Akshay and Kareena's characters view the Punjabi family as "anpadh", and they do reinforce a lot of stereotypes held against Punjabis. Overall, I'm not gonna apply my social justice degree on this movie too long because I don't think the writers put this much effort into the movie. It's ight, might rewatch it again with my friends someday.
- DirectorDavid LoweryStarsCasey AffleckRooney MaraMcColm Cephas Jr.In this singular exploration of legacy, love, loss, and the enormity of existence, a recently deceased, white-sheeted ghost returns to his suburban home to try to reconnect with his bereft wife.I'm a little speechless after this movie. I never expected a movie with so little dialogue to have so much impact. Hell, the scenes that made me weep like a little baby don't even have any dialogue. I can't explain why I love this movie as much as I do because I don't have the filmbro vocabulary for it. The cinematography is beautiful, the music fits super well, the acting is great. This is an art film through and through, and it's definitely not for everyone, but for me, this was beautiful, heartbreaking, and sad.
- DirectorNikkhil AdvaniStarsAkshay KumarDeepika PadukoneChia-Hui LiuA cook from Chandni Chowk gets mistaken for the reincarnation of an ancient peasant warrior by the residents of an oppressed Chinese village.Watched this after like a decade and yeaaa... what.... It's such a weird time capsule movie which perfectly represents the 2000s style of comedy except it's not done that well. I still chuckled a lot because I was watching this with my friends. The costumes were pretty good and the music too. The visuals were nothing special. The meow sound effect every time Meow Meow came on screen was... a bit much. Also, hell yea its SOO racist. Naming a Chinese character Chopstick??Really? Some of the emotional moments were done well and Deepika Padukone as Meow Meow was so fucking hot that it made me forget everything bad about this movie while watching it.
- DirectorRajkumar SantoshiStarsAamir KhanSalman KhanRaveena TandonTwo slackers competing for the affections of an heiress inadvertently become her protectors from an evil criminal.Rewatched this one after a couple years and I was so scared that it wasn't gonna hold up but holy shit I'm glad it does. Is there still some problematic stuff in there? Of course. But it isn't that important to the plot that it ruins things. The costumes are so great, I don't care if they're weird for the time, they're so colorful and fun. There's quite a bit of catchphrase comedy which kinda dates it but other than that the comedy still holds up really well. The musical album is full of absolute bangers. The actors are all performing at the perfect pitch, the characters are so funny. I'll stand by this movie for a long time. It's such a turn-your-brain-off comfort watch.
- DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsSissy SpacekPiper LaurieAmy IrvingCarrie White, a shy, friendless teenage girl who is sheltered by her domineering, religious mother, unleashes her telekinetic powers after being humiliated by her classmates at her senior prom.Aw man, this movie would've been absolutely perfect if it wasn't made by a man. I didn't like how Carrie was punished at the end, also hated all the nudity since these naked women shown on screen are supposed to be 17?? I love the dreamy representation of certain scenes completely juxtaposing so many horrific scenes. A lot can be said about the themes of this movie like how femininity is viewed as monstrous by society and yet very desired. It's a classic for a reason. Maybe I'll check out the remakes?
- DirectorShakun BatraStarsRishi KapoorRajat KapoorRatna Pathak ShahThe story about two brothers who visit their dysfunctional family for their grandfather's birthday party.Man, I did not expect this movie to be this good. Is this movie perfect? No. There's a lot of tropes, the movie isn't that tight knit but none of that will make me even remotely dislike this movie. The people in this movie feel so real, the tension feels authentic, and the performances are just *chef kiss*. Rahul and Arjun specifically feel super real, their struggles are something that a lot of people will relate to. I love this movie's portrayal of a dysfunctional family. This movie just hit really close to home for me which is why I'm willing to overlook some of the flaws in it. More dysfunctional family movies from Bollywood please.
SPOILER ALERT
I knew Rahul was gay the second he said "partner". The gay little cardigan??come on. Also of course I sobbed like a little baby when Rahul's mom accepted him for who he is. - DirectorSubhash KapoorStarsArshad WarsiAmrita RaoBoman IraniWanting to earn fame and fortune, a small time lawyer files a PIL for an infamous hit-and-run, and thus learns what it really is like to be a lawyer.I really don't have much to say about this movie other than its pretty good. The acting is good, Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani really killed it. The visuals were very boring and uncreative. It's more than watchable.
- DirectorAmit Ravindernath SharmaStarsAyushmann KhurranaNeena GuptaGajraj RaoA man is embarrassed when he finds out his mother is pregnant.Great concept, fun premise, great acting from Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao. Lots of great situational comedy. I liked the writing for the most part. I wish they touched on the class differences between Nakul and Renee a little more but thats just nitpicking. I thought the movie was pretty enjoyable, great comfort watch.
- DirectorAnubhav SinhaStarsAyushmann KhurranaNassarManoj PahwaIn the rural heartlands of India, an upright police officer sets out on a crusade against violent caste-based crimes and discrimination. This movie is super important. We see casteism happen on small scales in the most urban regions of India, so to see the cases in rural India is a wakeup call. Too many people think casteism is a thing of the past and this movie really serves as a reality check. Ayushman Khurana is great in it, the supporting cast does an absolutely amazing job, the story is heartbreaking. This movie is also shot beautifully, there's a lot of clever symbolism. A heavy watch for sure but a necessary one. There was some forced patriotism in one scene in particular but all in all, it's definitely great.
- DirectorSanjay GuptaStarsHrithik RoshanYami GautamRonit RoyA blind dubbing artist seeks revenge against a corrupt politician and his brother, after his wife is raped and killed. The acting was good, the love story was cute, Hritik Roshan kills it... now the bad. The writers knew nothing about blind people and it shows. Very few blind people see complete darkness, so when Wasim flashes a light into Rohan's eyes and Rohan doesn't react ... yea. Su solely exists to get raped. It was so disgusting that the writers wrote her APOLOGIZING for being raped and saying it's ok if Rohan doesn't think of her as the same again and he can leave her?? You can argue that it was Su the character who thinks that and not the writers but idk, I'm cynical. ALSO THE RAPIST GETS A DANCE NUMBER?? There was a bunch of small things that didn't make sense, the CGI was bad. But Yami Gautam is so beautiful, 10/10.
- DirectorEmma TammiStarsJosh HutchersonPiper RubioElizabeth LailA troubled security guard begins working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. During his first night on the job, he realizes that the night shift won't be so easy to get through. Pretty soon he will unveil what actually happened at Freddy's.Ok listen. I've been a FNaF fan since 2015 and I love the games and the lore, so obviously this movie was a long-awaited dream come true for me. My expectations were very low, but this movie surprised me. Yea there's a bunch of stupid shit in it, the story isn't groundbreaking, it's average. BUT. The animatronics?? They're so well made, the pizzeria looks so good, I just love how much effort they put into the main attractions. Also Josh Hutcherson. He's probably the second best thing about this movie after the animatronics. Mathhew Lillard is great as Afton in the very few scenes we get of him. I just really enjoyed this movie, it was so fun, I love it, I love the memes that came from it. I understand why the critics didn't like it but it's definitely getting a lot of undeserved hate, it's really not as bad as people say.
- DirectorDanny PhilippouMichael PhilippouStarsAri McCarthyHamish PhillipsKit Erhart-BruceWhen a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces. This movie was so good. I'd been wanting to watch it for so long and it was definitely worth the watch. The themes are done so well, the characters all feel believable, there's a couple of really disturbing moments. The music is amazing, the acting is just incredible. I love the ending. Loved it so much, it scratched the horror itch in my brain so well.

That's about it.
- DirectorMathur GoswamiNeeraj PandeyStarsSushant Singh RajputKiara AdvaniDisha PataniThe untold story of Mahendra Singh Dhoni's journey from ticket collector to trophy collector - the world-cup-winning captain of the Indian Cricket Team. The movie is a little too long, the pacing feels a little off. The acting is pretty good and of course the story is respectable. If it wasn't associated to such a legendary real life person, I don't think I'd like this movie as much, but it's still pretty enjoyable. My real rating would be a 6/10 but I bumped it up to a 7 because Thala.
- DirectorMamoru HatakeyamaMasakazu OharaStarsAmaLeeYutaka AoyamaBryn ApprillNow that Kaguya and Miyuki have shared their first kiss, the time has come for them to truly understand each other and admit their feelings.Mhm. Yea. Straight to the perfection tier.
- DirectorZoya AkhtarStarsAgastya NandaKhushi KapoorSuhana KhanSet in 1960s India, Archie and the gang navigate romance, friendship and the future of Riverdale as developers threaten to destroy a beloved park.Skimmed through this one and it just made me angry. The only good thing about it is the production design. The music sucks, the dialogue sucks, the story is bland. I have not seen worse acting from an entire cast. It's like everyone was just replaced by a cardboard box, I'm convinced the lines would've sounded better if they let AI do the voiceover. This movie just feels like it's so out of place and it's made for nobody. There's zero chemistry between the characters. It's insanely hard to believe that Zoya Akhtar made this.
