Set in a dystopian tomorrow Kevin Reynolds helmed Waterworld (1995) washed ashore in theaters nearly 30 years ago, as one of the most infamous summer sci-fi films, starring Kevin Costner. Despite the iconic amalgamation of Aquatic Western with a science-fiction twist, the movie became famous for its outrageous budget and behind-the-scenes creative battles.

Years later looking back at Kevin Reynolds’ Waterworld, it seems a lot of those issues could have been avoided with quick thinking and foresight. Or maybe, Kevin Costner could have simply listened to Steven Spielberg’s advice, especially after he reached out to the director for suggestions, ahead of shooting.

We are just days away from Season 2 of HBO’s “The Gilded Age,” and the excitement — at least on IndieWire’s TV team — is palpable. Julian Fellowes’ period drama about New York socialites in the late-19th century returns on October 29, sure to promise more scenery chewing and backstabbing from Christine Baranski, Carrie Coon, Cynthia Nixon, and the rest of the cast.
“The Gilded Age” Season 1 premiered in January 2022, so it’s been some time since viewers caught up with the old-school Upper East Side crew. Who hates whom, who stole someone else’s servant, who accidentally-almost slept with a maid, and who’s hiding their sexuality while pursuing a marriage? Some of it matters, some of it doesn’t — but all of it will be a treat to watch as both high and low drama unfold in Season 2.
Before that, here’s everything to remember about “The Gilded Age...

Burt Young, who played Paulie in six of the “Rocky” films starring Sylvester Stallone, drawing an Oscar nomination for supporting actor for his performance in the 1976 original, has died, his daughter Anne Morea Steingieser confirmed to the New York Times. He was 83.
Roger Ebert gave Young his props for his performance in the first “Rocky” film: “And Burt Young as (Adrian’s) brother — defeated and resentful, loyal and bitter, caring about people enough to hurt them just to draw attention to his grief.” The New York Times — in an absolutely scathing, completely dismissive review of the film — nevertheless said: “Burt Young is effective as Rocky’s best friend, a beer-guzzling mug.”
Young’s temperamental, jealous but nonetheless loyal and caring Paulie Pennino was Rocky’s best friend — he would defend the Italian Stallion if someone insulted him. But he was a problematic friend who shouts at Adrian during her pregnancy,...

When Sharon Stone steps in front of the camera, it's basically over for her costars. Even in an underwritten role (and she spent the first decade of her career making the most out of nothing parts), she's the person you've got to watch -- and it's not always to the film's benefit. After she finally earned her richly deserved stardom, she had a propensity to dominate. This could be a product of having been passed over for major roles until she was in her thirties. Whatever the reason, once she seized the spotlight, she wasn't letting go, and she stole whole movies from very good actors as a result.
Unfortunately, many of these movies weren't worth stealing, and this, coupled with a Sean Penn-esque surfeit of candor in interviews, has possibly hardened moviegoers, who should be lobbying for a career revival as they've rightfully done for greats such as Michelle Pfeiffer,...

This month’s installment of Deep Cuts Rising features a variety of horror movies, with some selections reflecting a specific day or event in September, and others chosen at random.
Regardless of how they came to be here, or what they’re about, these past movies can generally be considered overlooked, forgotten or unknown.
This month’s offerings feature killer baboons, deadly office drama, and more.
A Photograph (1977)

Directed by John Glenister.
BBC1’s historic anthology series Play for Today aired for fourteen years, and in that time, it produced a small number of tales that sit somewhere in the vicinity of horror. Episodes also run close to feature length, thus making them more like TV-movies. While there was low chance of finding anything straightforwardly horror in this series, which mainly focused on dramas, there is no denying the sinister quality of certain stories.

Paris, May 17 (Ians) By modern standards, Paul Verhoevens 1992 sex noir drama Basic Instinct might not seem that scandalous, but it was a much different story when it first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, Michael Douglas, the films male star, said on Wednesday, reports Variety
"Seeing a lot of those sex scenes on the Grand Palais’ huge screen, it was a little overwhelming for a lot of people. We had a very quiet dinner afterwards, everyone was sort of digesting it," Douglas recalled (the cast included Sharon Stone and Jeanne Tripplehorn).
He was at the festival ahead of receiving the Honorary Palm d’Or as a salute to his "brilliant career and commitment to cinema".
‘Basic Instinct’, notes ‘Variety’, followed a weary homicide detective (Douglas) investigating a successful crime writer (Stone). The film was initially given an Nc-17 rating, but was downgraded to an R after studio lobbying.

Salma Hayek gets a lot of attention for her stunning looks, but her oeuvre proves she's a versatile and formidable actress. From action to drama to comedy, Hayek takes on every role with consummate aplomb. Her talent has garnered Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy award nominations.
Hayek started her acting career in the novela "Un Nuevo Amanecer" in the late-1980s. She then appeared in television shows, including "Teresa," "Street Justice," and "Dream On." She made her big screen debut with 1993's "Mi Vida Loca," portraying Gata -- a small yet memorable role. Her feature film debut led to bigger and bigger parts, leading her to become one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood. While the 1990s saw her cultivate a reputation as a sex symbol, she's since lent her impressive acting chops to a wide range of films, such as experimental indie flicks, superhero blockbusters, and everything in between.

The divisive "Yellowjackets" character played in adult form by Christina Ricci and as a teenager by Samantha Hanratty has certainly committed her share of unspeakable acts. She cut off her coach's leg, destroyed the Yellowjackets' only mode of communication with the outside world mere days after crashing, and most recently, intimidated her only friend off a cliff.

The Terminal List was a huge success for the streaming service upon its launch in July.
Reviews weren't great, but the deciding factor was the impressive performance on Amazon's streaming service.
It landed at #3 on the Nielsen streaming chart, with 1.1 billion minutes viewed in its first week of availability.
Pratt had been vocal about wanting more from the Terminal List universe.

Like other long-running procedural series, "Criminal Minds" is an institution of network television. After an admirable fifteen seasons on CBS, the series was given a new life by Paramount+ -- one of the quickest revivals in television history -- with "Criminal Minds: Evolution," which premiered in November 2022. While it may not be the longest-standing procedural nor the most critically acclaimed, "Criminal Minds" has one big thing going for it: a legion of dedicated fans who live for the show's twisted action.
For viewers who've watched every episode without fail, the appeal of "Criminal Minds" is twofold. Of course, there's the killer-of-the-week mystery. But then there are the characters -- a team who acts more like a family – who we continue to root for as the seasons continue. Unfortunately, the lineup at the Bau has changed several times over the years, which is one of the things that make each season vary in quality.

We’re still recovering from the fact that we got to talk to Chucky creator Don Mancini for 90 minutes last week, so between that, The Lure, the Og Hellraiser and Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria remake, this Halloween season has been pretty wild!
So where are the Horror Queers headed next? Just in time for Spooky Season, we’re checking out a quintessential Erotic Thriller of the 90s: Paul Verhoeven and Joe Eszterhas‘ sexy, sultry, sleazy Basic Instinct (1992).
In the film, Detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas) – a recovering addict and womanizer – is tasked with investigating a grisly ice pick murder. What he doesn’t realize is that he’s entered into a deadly game of cat and mouse with provocative bisexual crime author Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone in a career defining role).

Louise Fletcher, who won the best actress Oscar for her indelible performance as Nurse Ratched in Milos Forman’s “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” died Friday at her home in France, according to a rep. She was 88.
The classic film, based on Ken Kesey’s novel and exploring the repressive tendency of authority through the story of the patients and staff of a psych ward, won five Oscars in 1976, including best picture and best actor for Jack Nicholson.
“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” was the first film in more than four decades to sweep the major categories of best picture, director, actor, actress and screenplay. It was nominated for an additional four Oscars and was also a substantial box office hit.

Amazon Prime Video hasn’t yet renewed The Terminal List for season 2 yet, but series star Chris Pratt seems pretty confident that they’ll be back.
While speaking on Danger Close, the Ironclad podcast series hosted by The Terminal List author Jack Carr, Chris Pratt was asked whether a second season was in the works. “To the rabid fans of The Terminal List out there, you have nothing to worry about,” Pratt said. “We love you and appreciate your support. It’s our life’s mission to make sure you can come back to the well. We are working away.” Carr added, “There may be some cool stuff on the horizon being discussed.“

Chris Pratt has good news for fans of The Terminal List who may be wondering about a second season: “You have nothing to worry about.”
On today’s installment of Danger Close — the Ironclad podcast hosted by The Terminal List author Jack Carr — Pratt was asked about the potential of another season. Pratt plays Lieutenant Commander James Reece in the Amazon Prime drama about an entire platoon of Navy SEALs who is ambushed during a high-stakes covert mission.
The first season of The Terminal List launched July 1 and consisted of eight episodes. Amazon Prime has yet to announce a renewal, but Pratt and Carr definitely suggest that something more is coming.

The Chris Pratt-starring action thriller The Terminal List could be returning as the actor is said to be in negotiations with Amazon Prime Video for a second season. Based on the 2018 novel of the same name by former Navy Seal Jack Carr, The Terminal List follows Lieutenant Commander James Reece (Pratt), a Navy Seal seeking to avenge the murder of his family. The series — which also stars Constance Wu, Taylor Kitsch, Riley Keough, Arlo Mertz, and Jeanne Tripplehorn — premiered on July 1, 2022. In a recent interview with the U.K.’s Daily Mail, Carr, who serves as an executive producer on the show, revealed that there are plans for a second season. “Chris wants to do it, and Amazon wants to do it. But it could all fall apart,” he said. “It would be an eight-part series based on the second book True Believer. We shall see.” Carr also noted...

“The Terminal List” is dead-set on surviving scathing reviews.
The Chris Pratt-led Prime Video series is based on a book by former Navy Seal Jack Carr, who serves as an executive producer on the show. While the series has a 94 percent audience score and a 39 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, Carr told Fox News that liberal-leaning media critics slammed the series because “there’s not this woke stuff that’s shoved into it” (via Mediaite).
“There’s no ‘woke’ or ‘anti-woke,’ but just because there’s not this ‘woke’ stuff that’s shoved into it, then it’s perceived — by critics, at least — as not promoting their agenda, so they’re going to hate it,” Carr said. “We don’t mention right, left, conservative, liberal, none of those things are even mentioned.”
Carr called out a Daily Beast review that likened the series to an “unhinged right-wing revenge fantasy.

Chris Pratt has been generating headlines this week after celebrating the success of his Amazon Prime Video series “The Terminal List,” which debuted July 1 to abysmal critical reviews. The show has proven to be a hit with viewers, with Nielsen reporting “The Terminal List” earned 1.6 billion minutes viewed in its first week. Pratt celebrated the show’s popularity by sharing to his Instagram story a Daily Mail article with the following headline: “The new ‘Yellowstone’: Chris Pratt’s new Navy thriller ‘The Terminal List’ defies woke critics’ scathing reviews to shoot up ratings chart with 1.6 billion minutes of streams.”
“The Terminal List” is based on a book written by former Navy Seal Jack Carr, who serves as an executive producer on the series. Carr recently told Fox News (via Mediaite) that critics have panned the show simply because “there’s not this woke stuff that’s shoved into it.

Chris Pratt strips down to his underwear for an epic fight scene in his new Amazon Prime Video action thriller series “The Terminal List.”
The scene finds the actor being attacked by would-be assassins while he’s undergoing an Mri.
“I used to fight my brother a lot in my underwear,” Pratt joked at the series premiere in Los Angeles. “Oftentimes, we’d run around in our underwear fighting each other.”
Obviously, “The Terminal List” fisticuffs were something quite different. “It was originally choreographed to be a little bit more like a big action fight sequence,” Pratt said. “And I just remember saying, ‘This is a man fighting for his life. I want it to be dirty. So I’m gonna punch him in the balls. I’m gonna rip out their eyes. I’m gonna do everything you wouldn’t do in a sanctioned boxing match, right? It’s not a clean fight.

Chris Pratt stars in and executive produces the new Prime Video series “The Terminal List,” about Navy Seal James Reece (Pratt) who starts suspecting something complex and sinister was behind his entire platoon being ambushed during a mission. It marks the Marvel star’s first time as one of the bosses on a television series.
Although the shoots on the show based on Jack Carr’s bestselling novel were long, and for much of the cast playing members of the military physically taxing, the cast had nothing but praise for their co-star and EP.
“What you see is what you get in terms of his great attitude and his enthusiasm,” Jeanne Tripplehorn, who plays Defense Secretary Lorraine Hartley in the series, told TheWrap.
Tripplehorn, whose character interacts with Reece as he starts following up on his hunch, said there was a few-month period where she didn’t see Pratt as he filmed more intense material.

Chris Pratt stars in “The Terminal List” — Amazon’s latest offering to the “Jack Ryan” crowd — as a traumatized Navy Seal with nothing left to live for… other than the fact that there are four more installments in the Jack Carr book series the show is based on.
Pratt is also an executive producer on the eight-episode drama (along with director Antoine Fuqua and showrunner David Digilio) which follows Lt. Commander James Reece (Pratt) on a journey of revenge. He was leading his platoon on a mission that was based on bad intel, and lost most of his men to an ambush. Most of the guys who made it back then killed themselves, and when Reece’s family gets caught up in the fallout, he becomes convinced that he’s a victim of a massive government conspiracy. Hurt, angry, betrayed by the people he dedicated his life to serving and armed to the teeth,...

When Jack Carr was tucked away inside a rental in Coronado, California, typing up what would be the first of five novels centered on a Navy Seal commander named James Reese, he zeroed in on a short list of dream collaborators if the book was ever adapted.
After all, the plot seemed prime for adaptation as the first entry, The Terminal List, tracks Reece after his entire platoon was ambushed during a high-stakes covert mission. As new evidence comes to light, Reece discovers dark forces working against him, endangering not only his life, but the lives of those he loves.

Hold on tight. It turns out Reece’s memories from the event are heavily compromised in this eight-parter based on the bestselling thriller of the same name by Jack Carr. “James is trying to piece everything together,” says Pratt of the absorbing psychological thriller. “He’s always trusted his instincts, but now he’s hanging on by a thread.” The Jurassic World: Dominion star shared more about the Terminal List role and how he wanted to be sure to portray life in the military accurately alongside co-stars Taylor Kitsch, Constance Wu, Riley Keough, Lamonica Garrett, and Jeanne Tripplehorn. In his new Amazon series “The Terminal List,” actor Chris Pratt is built like a brick wall, and has about half as much charisma. His character, James Reece, is on a Charles Bronson-esque mission of revenge against the forces that ambushed his Navy Seal platoon in the field and, back home, irrevocably altered his family life. Dead-eyed and flat-mouthed, Reece guts adversaries with an axe and orders them to walk, watching as they stumble; or axes them in the head; or handcuffs their families and strands them in a rising tide, or…

"There's evil in this world, the likes of which you can't possibly imagine." This is a line that we've heard so many times. Amazon has debuted the full-length trailer for an action thriller series called The Terminal List, adapted from a book by Jack Carr about a former Navy Seal. Starring Chris Pratt as Commander James Reece, plus a cast with Taylor Kitsch, Constance Wu, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Riley Keough, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Arlo Mertz.
