What if Superman had turned out to be evil? That was the idea explored by director David Yarovesky’s super-powered horror film Brightburn, which was released back in 2019. Even though the movie made under $33 million at the global box office, the budget was low enough (somewhere in the range of 6 to 12 million) that producer James Gunn said they were talking about a sequel just a couple months after the film reached screens. Then we went a long time with no mentions of Brightburn 2 – until production company The H Collective, which was also behind Brightburn, confirmed that a sequel was in development last September. Things got confusing last month when Gunn took to Threads to say there are “no plans at all” for a Brightburn 2 right now… but Gunn has cleared up some of the confusion by revealing that a sequel is unlikely due to a complicated rights situation.

We told you earlier this year about Stiletto, an upcoming horror movie from director Samuel Gonzalez Jr. (The Retaliators) that’s being described as a throwback to the early slashers of the 1980s. We now have an exclusive first look at the film’s villain, “The Stiletto Killer.”
The killer’s mask was created by Jason Baker, famous for designing the mask that Ethan Hawke wore in The Black Phone, and owner of Callosum FX Studios, which is the creative brainchild of legendary special effects master Tom Savini and renowned artist and effects creator Jason Baker himself.
Baker tells Bloody Disgusting in a statement, “Creating the killer’s mask for Samuel Gonzalez Jr. & Gigi Gustin on Stiletto was an absolute blast. I personally drew so much inspiration from the script. The film is a morbidly beautiful mixture of beauty and carnage. And that was the mindset we used in the design.

We told you earlier this week about Stiletto, an upcoming horror movie from director Samuel Gonzalez Jr. (The Retaliators) that’s being described as a throwback to the early slashers of the 1980s. Bloody Disgusting has now exclusively learned that makeup effects legend Tom Savini and his creative partner Jason Baker designed the killer’s mask for the film!
The duo most recently designed the mask for Ethan Hawke’s sinister “The Grabber” in box office hit The Black Phone, which is getting a sequel from Blumhouse in Summer 2025.

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' with Chris Pratt as Chris Pratt Star-Lord a.k.a. Peter Quill and Drax (voice by Dave Bautista): When 'the pressure to be good isn't as intense as the pressure to not be bad.' 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2': Entertaining pop culture references help to alleviate James Gunn's 'weight of obligation' Pull up a chair, gather your friends, and warm up those texting thumbs: the hour is nigh for our biannual ritual of packing ourselves into theaters and watching the ultra-caffeinated exploits of whichever Marvel superheroes we're obligated to obsess over this time. Punishment for non-compliance is harsh; your Facebook feed will be clogged with posts about a topic to which you are indifferent, the modern definition of social pariah. This time, it's Guardians of the Galaxy, a second-tier Marvel property whose refreshingly saucy first film, released in 2014, earned $773 million worldwide.

I've been hearing nothing but great things about this movie from people who I know who have seen it. I have yet to see if for myself, but judging from the buzz spreading, it's going to deliver some insanely blood-soaked entertainment.
We have a red-band clip for you to watch today called "All In My Mind," and it gives you a little tease of the messed-up and disturbing violence that I've heard this film is filled with. It focuses on Sean Gunn's character in the middle of a crazy shootout that he doesn't want to believe is really happening. Check it out:
The Belko Experiment explores a twisted social experiment "in which a group of 80 Americans are locked in their high-rise corporate office in Bogata and ordered by an unknown voice on an intercom system to participate in a deadly game of kill or be killed. It’s not...

James Gunn took to Facebook earlier today to show off yet another alien from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and he's a character who the filmmaker identifies as Brahl. Played by Super's Stephen Blackehart, I believe he may be one of the Ravagers who we got to see revealed a little earlier this year, but this is a new shot of the character which shows off just how much work went into creating his look. As Comic Book Resources point out, Brahl hails from Achernon and first appeared in the pages of Thor Annual #6 in 1977. A member of the Minions of Menace, he can become intangible and wields energy blasts which has the same effect on those he targets. In more recent years, he's been established as an enemy to the Guardians, so it makes sense that Gunn has decided to include him in the Ravagers. Happy Birthday...

While no one outside of the Hall H Guardians Of The Galaxy panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con will get to see the footage (in HD, at least), director James Gunn was not shy about releasing extra details he revealed. In an extensive Facebook post from Gunn, he pretty much broke down all the big pieces of news he dropped. One of them had to do with Kurt Russell'S Role In The Film, and another had to do with a familiar group of outlaws from the first Guardians Of The Galaxy film, the Ravagers.
When we last saw the gang of bandits, they were led by Yondu, who had let Peter Quill after the latter man didn't give the former man one of the Infinity Stones. Gunn went into greater detail in his post as he described the panel.

I think @DaveBautista & @zoesaldana might be regretting Drax & Gamora’s skimpy outfit choices. #gotg— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) September 6, 2013 Hope the stuff we’re shooting tonight is as fun to watch as it is to shoot! @prattprattpratt @blackehart @Thejudgegunn @Simonlikes #gotg— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) September 2, 2013 During production, my dreams...

Director: Sean Branney.
Writers: H.P. Lovecraft (story), Sean Branney and Andrew Leman (screenplay).
Cast: Stephen Blackehart, Annie Abrams and Matt Lagan.
Enthusiasts of H.P. Lovecraft will eat up the cinematic adaption of the tale, The Whisperer in Darkness. Made by the members of the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society, this film is very clearly a labour of love that came close to not finishing due to funding issues. But thankfully, Sandy Peterson, author of Call of Cthulhu, the role-playing game, saved the day by injecting the money needed to finish the project.
When turning Lovecraft’s works to cinematic expression, some liberties were taken. This movie nicely reproduces the style in films like Dracula, Frankenstein and The Mummy with the set designs and title cards. Also added is a Little Shop of Horrors style (the original) ending. But ultimately, this movie is an update than a wholly faithful adaptation. Had it...

Director: Sean Branney.
Writers: H.P. Lovecraft (story), Sean Branney and Andrew Leman (screenplay).
Stars: Stephen Blackehart, Barry Lynch and Conor Timmis.
The movie The Whisperer in Darkness is complete and touring the film festivals around the world. The filmmakers couldn't be any happier. Now the pressure is on to produce the DVD for the rest of the world to enjoy. With this seminal tale that is part science fiction and part terror, the onus is on how effective the actors are in reaching that creeping revelation.
“There are monsters in them thar hills,” as the hicks in the bayous like to call it.
And the written version, Albert N. Wilmarth, (Matt Foyer) an instructor of literature at Miskatonic University provides the narration. He’s corresponding with Henry Wentworth Akeley (Barry Lynch), a man who lives alone who claims to have made contact with these mysterious creatures. The response from Wilmarth,...

In this, er, new poster for James Gunn’s “Super”. Gotta say, I much prefer this one over the previous poster with Rainn Wilson’s Crimson Bolt. Don’t know why, though… When sad-sack loser Frank sees his ex-addict wife willingly snatched by a seductive drug dealer, he finds himself bereft and wholly unable to cope. But soon he decides to fight back under the guise of a Diy superhero called Crimson Bolt. With a hand-made suit, a wrench, and a crazed sidekick named Boltie, the Crimson Bolt beats his way through the mean streets of crime in hopes of saving his wife. The rules were written a long time ago: You are not supposed to molest children, cut lines or key cars; if you do, prepare to face the wrath of the Crimson Bolt! Starring Starring: Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon, Gregg Henry, Michael Rooker, Andre Royo,...

...Or we should say "Cheat Sheets" since this year's SXSW Film Festival boasts over 140 films, requiring more than just one page to cover every single one of the narrative and documentary features that will be playing in Austin from March 11th through 19th. While the festival has already provided a very helpful schedule to flip through and Pdf of the screening grid online, consider this your quick hit guide to all the features at the festival - every title leads to its corresponding festival page in addition to links to trailers, official sites, filmmakers' Facebook pages and Twitter accounts so you can follow the action from the festival or from home.
Meanwhile, there will be plenty of action during these next two weeks on IFC.com where, in addition to our live video page, Matt Singer (@mattsinger) and I (@mfrushmore) will be filing reviews and interviews throughout the film festival.

James Gunn’s love for the comedy and horror genres coalesced in the humorous and brilliant horror film Slither, released by Universal in 2006. The filmwhich was written by Gunn, was also his directorial debut, and was also critically hailed as one of the best horror films of the aughts. Last year’s Toronto International Film Festival premiered his sophomoric effort Super, a dark comedy about an average guy who creates a costumed alter-ego after his wife leaves him for a big time drug dealer. Super embraces pretty much all the bearings of the “everyman turned superhero” concept but unlike previous installments of the new sub-genre, however, director James Gunn opts for a darker, weirder and much more cynical approach. It was by far one of my favorite films from the fest (you can read my review here), and now months later, the film will be screening at this year’s SXSW film festival,...

We've said it before, and we'll say it again ... director Chad Ferrin is a friggin' Psycho! Need proof? How about sitting back, turning down your lights, and watching his acclaimed feature film The Ghouls right now for free?!?
The Ghouls stars Timothy Muskatell, Tina Birchfield, James Gunn, Stephen Blackehart, Tiffany Shepis, and Joe Pilato. Do yourself a favor and dig on this insane slice of sick immediately if not sooner.
Synopsis
Eric Hayes is a stringer. One notch below the lowest rung of the journalistic ladder. A video vulture preying on police chases, ambulance runs and random street violence, selling his footage to the highest bidder and living on a steady diet of cigarettes and bloodlust. For years Eric has lived off of other people's pain and misery. But he's about to discover something beneath the streets of Los Angeles even hungrier for blood than he is. He's about to discover The Ghouls.

Nathan Fillion, Linda Cardellini, Gregg Henry and Michael Rooker have all joined the cast of James Gunn's "Super", a comedic twist on the superhero genre for This is That, Ambush Entertainment and HanWay Films.
Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, and Kevin Bacon have already been cast in the project about Frank (Wilson), a seemingly average guy who is madly in love with his troubled wife Sarah (Tyler). But when Sarah leaves Frank for Jacques (Bacon), a smooth-talking drug dealer, Frank transforms into pseudo superhero The Crimson Bolt, stakes out Jacques sleazy hideaway, and wages a one-man war on crime.
What he lacks in superpowers, he makes up for with a trusty pipe wrench. Every superhero needs a sidekick and so enters Libby (Page), a cute sociopathic teen working at the local comic book store, who morphs into ‘Boltie’ and teams with Frank to take Jacques down.

Featuring Deborah Gibson, Lorenzo Lamas, Vic Chao, Mark Hengst, and Stephen Blackehart
2009 The Asylum
I don’t care what anyone says; Megashark vs. Giant Octopus is the best movie ever. Ever. Not only does it star 80’s teen pop sensation Deborah “Debbie” Gibson and rugged greasy heartthrob Lorenzo Lamas, it features Scary Stud of the month Mark Hengst and cutie pie Stephen Blackehart. But not only that – it’s about a giant octopus versus a mega shark. If you understand everything I just wrote I don’t know how you could argue with me...
Take into consideration also that you get to see a giant computer shark jump out of the ocean and catch an airplane in its jaws! Aforementioned shark also bites in half the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco (I hate San Francisco!) The Octopus does stuff too, like destroy submarines and have big eyes.
