Michael R. Joyce
- Producer
- Production Manager
- Second Unit Director or Assistant Director
Michael R. Joyce is the classic example of a film executive who has
worked his way up through the ranks. He began his career in 1974 as a
production assistant and spent the next several years garnering
experience in several facets of filmmaking, which eventually led to the
position of Senior Vice President of Worldwide Production for both
United Artists and Twentieth Century Fox. Breaking away from the
Executive Management ranks, Joyce began his producing career as the
Co-Producer of Nora Ephron's first feature film "This Is My Life". As
of 2003, Joyce had been physically disabled with a spinal cord disease.
The physical demands of producing curtailed his activity in Live Action
films. Not wanting to quit the creative process entirely, he discovered
a computer related form of filmmaking called Machinima. Although the
art form of Machinima is new, the potential in it may provide a new
filmmaking experience which can be done virtually from a confined
workplace.
