American TV bosses obviously didn’t learn many lessons from “Episodes,” the Showtime/BBC co-production which brilliantly skewered the habit of adapting British sitcoms, and removing all nuances, subtleties, and idiosyncrasies in the process. In the 13 years since its premiere, there’s been numerous failed pilots (“Spy”), ratings disasters (“Free Agents”), and entire series considered unfit for public consumption (“Us and Them”) which originated across the pond. Now the most singular UK comedy of the 2010s is going transatlantic.
The BAFTA-nominated “Friday Night Dinner” — which served up 37 episodes from 2011-2020 —stemmed from creator Robert Popper’s real-life secular Jewish family and their weekly Shabbat meals, explaining why everything from its suburban London home to its lovable oddballs feels so wonderfully specific. Disappointingly, Amazon Freevee’s “Dinner with the Parents” is as generic as its title.
The 10-part series on Freevee does attempt to retain some of the original’s quirks.

Actor Matthew Perry, who is well-known for his portrayal of Chandler Bing on the NBC television sitcom Friends, unexpectedly passed away in October 2023 at the age of 54. His death was quite shocking for his fans, friends and family members. In fact, Perry’s stepfather, Keith Morrison, thinks that the actor’s death was “not fair.”
Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing in Friends
Morrison explained that Perry’s life was changing before his death as he was really close to his mother and was doing much better in terms of his addiction. However, to not have been able to have a “third act” in his life was quite unfair for Perry, as per Morrison. The actor suffered from severe addictions to drugs and alcohol but in recent years, had managed to curb them.

Friends director James Burrows mourned the loss of actor Matthew Perry in an exclusive Today show interview this morning. “I had to have a couple of days to just let it soak in,” Burrows said on the NBC morning show. “He was part of a family and he was the first one to not be part of that family anymore.”
Burrows, who directed the first four episodes of the longrunning series, said that upon hearing the news of Perry’s death at 54 last Saturday, he reached out to some of the show’s cast – Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow.
“I had texted the girls the day we found out,” Burrows said. “They were destroyed. It’s a brother dying.”
“He was incredibly inventive,” Burrows said of Perry’s star-making performance as Chandler Bing. “He was inventive with how he did a line.” The director said Perry was, in some ways,...

Matthew Perry’s comedic genius was apparent from the very first episode of Friends.
That’s according to storied television director James Burrows, who helmed the pilot “The One Where Monica Gets a Roommate,” and would go on to direct 15 total episodes throughout the iconic NBC comedy’s 10-season run. Burrows spoke to the Today show on Thursday, one day after Friends creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane also opened up to the outlet about the immense loss of losing Perry at age 54.
The actor died over the weekend on Saturday; he was found unresponsive at his Los Angeles home and his cause of death is still pending.
Looking back on the very first episode of Friends, initially known as “The Pilot,” Burrows recalled how inventive Perry was with performing a single line as well as his facial expressions, whether or not the camera was on him.

With the passing of Matthew Perry breaking the hearts of Friends fans everywhere, tributes have begun pouring in online, with many noting how the always upbeat show was therapeutic to those going through rough times. I, for one, binged on the show during the pandemic. As the world shut-down around me, it was comforting to jump into a show I loved so much growing up. To my delight, the series worked (for me) just as well as it did twenty or so years ago. To pay tribute to Matthew Perry and his iconic portrayal of Chandler Bing, we here at JoBlo thought it would be a good idea to list our picks for the best Chandler episodes.
The One With The Blackout

Matthew Perry, beloved for his iconic Friends role as Chandler Bing, has left generations of fans devastated following the news of his death at age 54. The actor died Saturday in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home.
The Emmy-nominated actor went on to star in movies like the Whole Nine Yards franchise, Fools Rush In and 17 Again; and on television, The West Wing, The Good Wife, Go On and, most recently, The Odd Couple. But his indelible role as Chandler on the revered NBC sitcom, which ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004, is seared into memory for many. His lines decorate coffee mugs. His physical comedy, passed around as shareable memes. And his iconic episodes will remain forever bingeable.
When Perry published his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, in 2022, his words and subsequent press tour shed light on what the actor was quietly experiencing while making millions laugh as must-see TV.

Matthew Perry, the affable actor who became a television superstar playing Chandler Bing on the beloved NBC sitcom Friends, had died. He was 54.
Perry died Saturday in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home, law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times. Authorities responded around 4 p.m. to his home, where he was discovered unresponsive, they said.
While Perry had achieved massive success as part of Friends, one of the most successful shows of all time, he also battled alcohol and substance abuse for decades.
Debuting in 1994, Friends, of course, followed the lives and loves of six young New Yorkers trying to find themselves as they banded together for support. Through their ups and downs, trials and tribulations, one thing remained constant (as affirmed by the show’s theme song): These friends would always be there for each other.
Striking a chord with twenty-somethings everywhere, Friends was a ratings powerhouse.

It's no wonder that pianist-composer Harry Connick Jr., 50, has found a muse in his wife, Jill Goodacre. "She is the strongest and most inspiring woman I know," he has gushed of the 54-year-old former model, who's mother to their three daughters: Georgia, 22, Kate, 20, and Charlotte, 16. His song "One Fine Thing" is a fittingly romantic tribute to his better half, who went public last year with her five-year battle with breast cancer. "You're a sunrise, you're heaven. You're the reason that God rested on day seven," he croons in the tune, which is off his Every Man Should Know album. Harry and his family in 2011. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Using music, Harry constantly shows just how much he loves his wife and will never let her go. Although Jill has now, thankfully, been cancer-free for more than five years, Harry told People that the thought of losing his wife to the...

For a show that lasted ten seasons, Friends left remarkably few scenes on the cutting-room floor. There's the infamous airport-security subplot cut after 9/11, the wardrobe malfunction at Monica and Chandler's wedding, and plenty of choice Chandler and Joey moments, naturally. So much for Victoria’s Secret models being ’curvy’ — cover girl Candice is scarily, skeletally, stick-thin!
Does Candice Swanepoel look like a size 8 (yes, eight) to you? That’s what her modeling card claims, but new photos from March 30 suggest she’d be a size sub-zero if that existed. Click inside for more shocking comparisons.
Just look at the legs — so skinny, they look like straight lines. (That’s not how the human body is meant to look.)
Likewise, her waist appears to have disappeared completely.
Candice was the cover girl for the 2011 Swim issue, a huge honor, and her body will land in the mailboxes and on the coffee tables of women worldwide.
The days of “curvy” Gisele Bundchen and — remember Jill Goodacre, for goodness’ sake? — are long gone.
Is this the way Vs wants the world to see women? Are you shocked — and dismayed?...

Today, while scouring The Hollywood Reporter, I found news that Brian Geraghty, Josh Peck, and Margarita Levieva have all been tapped to star in Atm, a thriller about three co-workers trapped in an Atm vestibule by an undoubtedly dangerous, definitely mysterious man. And though the first thoughts that come to my mind upon reading such news should be along the lines of, Wow, how refreshing to see these three young talented actors score headlining roles! instead I thought, Please, Atm, do not ruin the Atm fantasy Friends created.
Because if Friends and the unyielding optimism of the mid-1990s taught us anything,...

Harry Connick Jr.'s wife Jill Goodacre upstaged him with his idol Frank Sinatra.
The "American Idol" mentor recounted how he had been nervous about performing at the late singing legend's 75th birthday and flubbed his first attempt. Later, when he confronted Sinatra in an elevator, Ol' Blue Eyes only had eyes for Goodacre.
Apparently, Sinatra took her face between his hands, said "You're beautiful" and then kissed her on the lips.
It's not difficult to see why Frankie would have been so taken with Connick's wife. She was a Victoria's Secret model back in the '80s and '90s after all.
Need proof? Okay.
She also gave us one of the funniest moments on "Friends" when Chandler (Matthew Perry) was stuck in an Atm vestibule with Goodacre, playing herself.
Don't get any ideas though. They couple is happily married (wouldn't you be?) and have three daughters together.

Lee DeWyze emerged as the new frontrunner on "American Idol" after he thrilled the judges during Frank Sinatra week with a soulful l rendition of "That's Life."

"If this was the last night of performances, you would have just won the whole thing," judge Ellen DeGeneres noted.

Sandra Bullock: Which I love ... I think that's a great idea. When I heard it, I went, "That makes more sense than anything."

Larry Busacca/WireImage Between his wife Jill Goodacre, his daughters Georgia Tatom, 13, Sara Kate, 12, and Charlotte, 7, and even the two family dogs, Harry Connick Jr. is — quite literally — surrounded by girls. The 42-year-old singer/actor tells The View that he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I love it,” he raves, and for good reason! Harry reveals that his late mother — who died when he was just 13 — was an inspiration.
“She was my hero. I think she spoiled me to be around very, very bright, strong women…I’m just, I’m around amazing women a lot.”

Singer Harry Connick Jr.'s 11-year-old daughter, Kate, made her national singing debut on NBC's Today show Wednesday, joining her dad on the holiday classic, "Winter Wonderland." Connick, who has two other daughters, Georgia, 12, and Charlotte, 6, with wife Jill Goodacre, beamed as he watched his middle child perform. Kate's surprisingly natural, relaxed-sounding voice – the opposite of so many young singers who try to belt like Mariah, or whose voices are touched up with special effects in the studio – is featured on Connick's new CD, What a Night! A Christmas Album. Working with his daughter "brought back some nice memories," Connick says on his Web site,...
