Dear Edward is one and done at Apple TV+.
The streaming service canceled the Jason Katims drama on Wednesday after one season.
The news is a bit of a surprise because Apple TV+ has canceled few shows after their first seasons.
But Dear Edward didn't break out in the way the service expected.
Dear Edward launched with the first three episodes of its 10-episode first season on Friday, February 3, 2023, followed by one new episode weekly every Friday through March 24, 2023.
The series was adapted from Napolitano's bestselling, acclaimed novel of the same name, Dear Edward is a heartbreaking, life-affirming, and uplifting story about survival, resilience, connection, and the examination of what makes us human.
Dear Edward tells the story of Edward Adler (played by O'Brien), a 12-year-old boy who survives a devastating commercial plane crash that kills every other passenger on the flight, including his family.

Apple TV+ is not moving forward with a second season of Dear Edward, as the Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights) drama series has been canceled after one season. As reported by Deadline, the streamer has opted not to pick up a second season of its freshman drama, which was created by Katims and based on the novel by Ann Napolitano. The series premiered on February 3, 2023, and ran for 10 episodes. Dear Edward revolves around 12-year-old Edward Adler (Colin O’Brien), the lone survivor of a devastating plane crash that takes the lives of every other passenger, including his family. The series follows Edward as he and others affected by the tragedy connect with one another to cope and make sense of their respective losses and pain. “Dear Edward” star Colin O’Brien recognizes that parts of the show give closure while others leave it open-ended, as viewers reckon with the Apple TV+ drama series’ finale.
The television adaptation of Ann Napolitano’s novel by Jason Katims watches Edward Adler (O’Brien) come of age more quickly than planned when he loses his family in a plane crash and becomes the lone survivor of the tragic accident. Edward moves in with his Aunt Lacey (Taylor Schilling) and Uncle John (Carter Hudson), bonding with neighbor Shay (Eva Ariel Binder) while the adults affected by the crash connect in a grief group that meets in New York City.
In the final episode of Season 1, Edward’s aunt Lacey brings him to the party that Dee Dee (Connie Britton) plans at the end of the grief counseling sessions, connecting him further to the center of the tragedy when he meets all...

“Dear Edward” builds to an emotional pitch with the last grief group session in the finale episode when Edward finally meets all the adults grieving losses like his.
Jason Katims adapted the ten-episode Apple TV+ show from Ann Napolitano’s best-selling novel of the same name, which follows a young boy Edward Adler (Colin O’Brien) as he navigates the loss of his parents and brother in a plane crash that kills every passenger but him. His Aunt Lacey (Taylor Schilling) and her husband John (Carter Hudson) take Edward in, and Lacey attends the grief counseling set up in New York City by the airline, where she meets many others who lost loved ones in the crash.

“Dear Edward” actress Anna Uzele knows that fans might dislike the ending for her character Adriana and her love interest Kojo (Idris Debrand) in the Apple TV+ drama series’ finale episode, but she sees the love in it.
Uzele’s character Adriana Washington entered the story from the mind of Jason Katims, who adapted Ann Napolitano’s novel to create an ensemble story that also stars Taylor Schilling as Lacey, Connie Britton as Dee Dee and Colin O’Brien as Edward Adler, the titular character who survives a plane crash that killed his family and every other passenger. Adriana loses her grandmother and boss, Congresswoman Rose Washington (Lynda Gravatt), in the crash, but she befriends Kojo (Debrand), who flies to New York from Ghana to take in his niece Becks (Khloe Bruno) after her mother (and his sister), dies in the crash.

As the lead in the new Apple TV+ drama Dear Edward, Colin O’Brien plays a boy existing in the aftermath of tragedy. It’s a complex role, especially for one so young, and O’Brien shines. He landed the part after starring in a Stephen King project last year. Now, at only 14, the Dear Edward actor has two big projects coming up, including Wonka.
‘Friday Night Lights’ creator Jason Katims brings the book ‘Dear Edward’ to the screen
Based on the best-selling book by Ann Napolitano, Dear Edward sees O’Brien portraying the title character, a 12-year-old who’s the lone survivor of a plane crash. The series follows Edward as he moves in with his aunt (Taylor Shilling) and begins to process his grief. It also follows the crash victims’ loved ones — Dee Dee (played by Friday Night Lights star Connie Britton), Adriana (Anna Uzele), Linda (Amy Forsyth), and...

Heart, hope, and, yes, joy, emerge from the worst thing that can happen to a person in Dear Edward. Apple TV+‘s new drama, adapted from Ann Napolitano’s bestseller, focuses on the people in a grief support group whose loved ones were killed in a plane crash. Striking this emotional balance for the ensemble cast is Emmy-winning writer/executive producer Jason Katims; he reunites with his Friday Night Lights star Connie Britton as widow Dee Dee, a rich New Yorker and now-single mom to her college-age daughter, Zoe (Audrey Corsa). Also in the support group is Lacey aunt and caretaker for the sole survivor, a 12-year-old, Edward Adler whose parents and older brother died. To protect him, Lacey hides the torrent of sympathy letters alluded to in the series title. Each of the 10 episodes (the first three debut together) reveals more secrets about the lost passengers (...

Dear Edward is a new show on Apple TV+ which manages to find a strong balance between tragedy and hope, and how sometimes it takes the former to find the latter. We had the pleasure in speaking to a handful of the stars that make up this talented ensemble, as you can watch our interviews below, with Taylor Schilling and Colin O’Brien, as well as our chat with Connie Britton, and finally Anna Uzele. We speak about the themes in the show, whether they read the book it is based on, and with the likes of Schilling & Britton, who have starred in great shows such as Orange in the New Black and White Lotus, respectively, we want to find out what makes a great project for them – and ones worth signing up for, even if long-term.

New York -- Time Warner plans to name former News Corp. communications guru and Rupert Murdoch confidant Gary Ginsberg as a senior adviser to chairman and CEO Jeffrey Bewkes on a broad range of issues.
His role is expected to be similar to the one he held at News Corp.
The hire follows last week's resignation of TW communications veteran Edward Adler, who said he is leaving to pursue new challenges after spending his entire career at the conglomerate. Adler is understood to have mentioned his plans to depart before Tw started its talks with Ginsberg.
The New York Post, owned by News Corp., first reported the expected hire of Ginsberg, likely to be announced in the coming days, on its Web site late Thursday.
The industry veteran, who left News Corp. at the end of last year, is expected to have oversight over marketing and corporate issues, according to the Post.
