Was accompanist to singer Ruth Etting who divorced her gangster husband Moe 'The Gimp' Snyder in 1937. Enraged by Etting's relationship with Alderman, Snyder shot him in 1938 and was put on trial for kidnapping and attempted murder. Snyder served one year in prison. After the trial Etting and Alderman got married and lived in seclusion near Colorado Springs.
His one Hollywood credit is Something to Sing About, starring James Cagney, who played the man who shot him, Marty Snyder, in the film Love Me or Leave Me.
