Beetlejuice isn’t the most kid-friendly source material. The two main characters are a couple who tragically died in a car accident and now have to learn to cope with being dead. The titular character — who only occupies 17 minutes of screentime — is an evil, unscrupulous ghost that tricks the main characters into letting him torture an innocent, if annoying, family. He also, most horrifically of all, nearly marries a 16-year-old girl against her will.
Still, in the ‘80s and ‘90s, it was perfectly normal to adapt an adult film into a Saturday morning kids cartoon. Which is why Beetlejuice, despite its subject matter, was ripe for an animated adaptation. Of course, things had to be toned down. The Maitlands (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis in the film) were removed entirely, and all references to “the afterlife” were substituted with “the neitherworld.” Beetlejuice himself would also become less nefarious and more of a goofy,...

It's showtime! We present the most outrageous moments from the cartoon that encouraged kids to pick their noses.
Beetlejuice, beetlejuice, beetle—uh…line?
For those of you who don’t remember (and for those who prefer not to), Beetlejuice is not just a movie starring Michael Keaton in a blonde wig looking pervy. It was also an Emmy Award-winning cartoon in the early 1990s that aired on both ABC and Fox Kids simultaneously - six days out of the week, in fact. And it was a pretty darn good one if I can say so myself.
Beetlejuice: The Animated Series was all about puns. You could go as far as to say it was one big punishment. Or, rather, a ton of pun. Lots of fun in the pun maybe? No? Fine, what about one long weekly session of punnilingus?
(Okay. So I took it too far.

Cookie Jar eyes 'Spider' sales
TORONTO -- Canadian cartoon channel Teletoon will give viewers a sneak preview of Spider Riders this Saturday before animation producer Cookie Jar Entertainment launches the Japanese-Canadian co-production at MIPTV. Jean-Michel Ciszewski, the newly installed senior vp of international sales and co-productions at Cookie Jar, said Friday he believes Spider Riders represents the sweet spot between Asian and North American animation by offering a Japanese anime look with a Western storyline. "We needed to get the best of both worlds," Ciszewski said of the cartoon series, based on Newmarket Press' Spider Riders books by Tedd Anasti and Patsy Cameron-Anasti (Little Mermaid, Free Willy) and Stephen Sullivan.
