Clone Force 99 is back in action.
The last time we saw the genetically altered clone troopers in Disney+’s The Bad Batch, they were dealing with the presumed death of Tech, who’d died during a mission, and the loss of clone Omega, who’d been captured by the Empire. Omega, however, had also reunited with Kaminoan scientist Nala Se as well as Crosshair, both of whom seemed to be waking up to the Empire’s true (evil) nature. Meanwhile, Hunter and Wrecker were determined to track down Omega (and, perhaps, Crosshair), while Echo joined up with Rex to fight the Empire.
On Feb. 21, the third and final season of the animated series debuts on Disney+ (watch the trailer). Disney+ released an official description for the third season: “In the epic final season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, the Batch will have their limits tested in the fight to...

Welcome class! In today's lesson on "Why Star Wars Animation is the best Star Wars," we'll be talking about the third and final season of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch."
A continuation of the beloved "Clone Wars" animated series centered on the members of Clone Force 99 (each of whom bears unique genetic traits or mechanical implants that distinguish them from other clones), "The Bad Batch" does a better job of balancing standalone storytelling with connections to the rest of the "Star Wars" universe than most of its live-action peers on Disney+. More than that, it's a show that takes the anti-fascist messaging at the core of George Lucas' creation to heart by revealing how the rise of the Galactic Empire led to a clamp-down on both personal freedoms and the quality of life for your average civilian in a galaxy far, far away.
That goes double for the clones, all...

At its most basic, possession horror exploits the primal fear of losing control over your own person, usually due to a demonic entity. Victims in a possession movie are rendered mere passengers in their bodies as a sinister force takes over and destroys them from the inside. That potent combination of body horror and a complete lack of free will makes for inherently terrifying and fertile ground for exploration. While possession horror is often tied to biblical battles of good versus evil, that’s not always the case.
This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to demonic possession horror titles that leave conventional depictions of faith and exorcisms behind for new terrain and metaphors.

Possession horror tends to take the possession seriously, opting for full-throttle scares and intense emotional or faith-related stakes.

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) was the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2023 Best Character Voice-Over ballot consists of 148 performances, which is down by 74 from last year. Seeking her third victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

This post contains spoilers for "Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462."
Early in its eight-season run, AMC's "Fear the Walking Dead" crossed over into a 16-part web series, "Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462," which followed the breakout of the zombie apocalypse aboard a commercial flight bound for Phoenix, Arizona. In the series, Michelle Ang's character, Alex, is always one step ahead of the other passengers when it comes to dealing with "walkers." She can recognize the signs that a person is infected, knows when to tie them up or lock them in the restroom, and knows where to aim a gun or knitting needle in order to put one down.
In real life, however, Ang was much more in the dark than her character when it came to her place in the "Walking Dead" universe. "Flight 462" premiered in October 2015, the same day that "Fear the Walking Dead" wrapped up its first season.

All living beings must go to the Cosmic Force. Since childhood, Jedi carried the mantra of "There is no death, there is the Force." Although Jedi Master Yoda once preached that someone passing on is a cause for rejoicing, he's still no match for the floodgates of sorrow. Death may be a natural part of a life cycle, but that doesn't make it fair, especially premature ones brought by galactic injustices.
Because a space fantasy must have stakes and heartbreak, "Star Wars" is rife with despair and an incalculable body count. With plenty of tissues handy, /Film takes some pain to document the saddest onscreen "Star Wars" deaths, examining the weight of the characters' lives and sacrifices, and the aftermath of their demise. This collection contains a mountain of emotional losses across several eons, from the prequel to the sequel trilogy, from live-action to animation. May the Force be with them.

During the "Star Wars" Celebration panel for "The Bad Batch," there was a lot of talk about the events of season 2. It was the first time the cast and crew were able to talk openly with a crowd about the shocking end of the season and the death of one of the Bad Batch.
In the season's climactic final episode, Tech — the most technologically savvy and neurodiverse of Clone Force 99 — is forced to sacrifice himself in order to save the rest of the Bad Batch. They decided they had to infiltrate Governor Tarkin's retreat on his home planet of Eriadu and there is a cost to this mission. Tarkin puts them in a position where there's no other option and for the Bad Batch to escape, Tech has to die.

This post contains spoilers for the "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" season 2 finale.
With all eyes fixed on "The Mandalorian" and the other live-action "Star Wars" series on Disney+, "The Bad Batch" has quietly emerged as one of the best things to come from a galaxy far, far away since the House of Mouse took over. For as much as the "Clone Wars" spin-off played things too safe in season 1, it had an easier time finding its ethos than other animated "Star Wars" shows. Right out of the gate, "The Bad Batch" proved it was willing to go to dark places in exploring the early days of the Galactic Empire, starting with Clone Force 99's experiences during Order 66.
Things only got bleaker from there, revealing how the Empire emboldened enslavers and other criminals to conduct their business in the daylight, all while civil liberties were being stomped out. Season 2 doubled down on that sentiment,...

Spoilers for "The Bad Batch" Season 2 Episode 13 - "Pabu" follow.
Omega (Michelle Ang) and The Bad Batch (Dee Bradley Baker) have cut ties with Cid (Rhea Perlman) and decided to adventure across the galaxy with Phee Genoa (Wanda Sykes), as they look for a new way to sustain their lives.
When Phee learns that the Batch has been dodging Cid's calls, she offers to take them to her homeworld, a tropical paradise called Pabu, a place where they can let Omega have a childhood and be free of the yolk of the Empire for a while.
They like it there well enough, but something is wrong. A ground quake of some sort hits the small island community and causes a tidal wave. The Bad Batch springs into action, helping evacuate the lower parts of the island and rescuing Omega and her new friend, who were out to sea when the quakes hit.

As the Omega (Michelle Ang) and the Bad Batch (Dee Bradley Baker) comes back into the civilized galaxy after being stranded for the last two episodes, Cid tips them off about a downed ship that might have a great payoff if they salvage the cargo.
Angry with Cid for not retrieving them, they're reluctant to take the gig. But when she offers to split the proceeds with them 50/50, it's enough for them to take the job, though they make rumblings that it might be their last for Cid. They investigate the crash site and find an alien creature there. That was the cargo. Unfortunately, it's eaten the crew. Tech and Omega investigate the ship for more information while Wrecker and Hunter try to stop the beast, though their blasters are ineffective against it. Things go from bad to worse when...

The tenth episode of "The Bad Batch" is called "Retrieval" and it's the second half of last week's episode. The Batch (Dee Bradley Baker) and Omega (Michelle Ang) are stranded on a distant mining planet, and their ship has been stolen by a mysterious thief. Now, they await rescue from a very grumpy Cid (Rhea Perlman). But Omega tracks the ship to a mining settlement barely 100km away and they make their move.
In this settlement, they find a Dickensian colony of kids, mining and stealing on behalf of a mobster named Mokko (Jonathan Lipow). A young thief named Benni (Yuri Lowenthal) is the one behind the theft of the Marauder and hopes to earn enough goodwill to eat and drink well.

Spoilers for "The Bad Batch" Season 2 Episode 9 - "The Crossing" follow.
"The Crossing" is the latest episode of "The Bad Batch" and it sees Omega and the team of Clone super commandos — minus Echo — heading to a distant mining planet where Cid has taken control of a mine. There, it's their task to mine a precious substance called Ipsium and get back. Unfortunately, in the process, their ship is stolen by a masked thief and they're stranded on the planet. Things get worse when they are pursued by a desert lightning storm and take shelter in a mine where they are promptly trapped.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger with the Bad Batch and Omega still left on the deserted desert planet, hoping Cid will come rescue them before their rations run out.

This review contains spoilers for "The Bad Batch" Season 2, Episode 5 -- "Entombed."
A brand new episode of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" means a brand new adventure for Clone Force 99 (Dee Bradley Baker). This time, they are between missions and looking to repair their ship. While hunting for parts in the junkyard with Wrecker, Omega (Michelle Ang) finds a star compass. When she takes it back to Cid's, the archeologist, treasure hunter, and pirate Phee Genoa (Wanda Sykes) is there and takes an interest.
Convinced the compass is a rare find and will lead to valuable treasure, she's able to persuade the Bad Batch to accompany her to a distant, uncharted planet in the Kaldar Trinary System to seek the treasure. From there, they follow clues that take them to an ancient relic of a civilization that predates the Republic and the Jedi, but it holds a terrible secret they don't fully understand.

Watching "Star Wars: The Bad Batch," it's easy to forget that most of the show's heroes are voiced by a single chap in a recording booth. Prolific voice actor Dee Bradley Baker has been doing a fabulous job lending his vocals to the animated clones of a galaxy far, far away since 2008, starting with the "Clone Wars" movie. With "The Bad Batch," however, he's somehow stepped his game up a notch, creating unique growls, pitches, and intonations for Clone Force 99 members Hunter, Echo, Tech, and Wrecker, along with their forsaken brother Crosshair and all the other Jango Fett clones that survived the fall of the Old Republic ... save for one.
Yes, as skilled as Baker is, even he can't play every character on "The Bad Batch" (though he could surely make a decent go at it if he wanted to). No, the newest and youngest member of Clone Force 99, Omega,...

"The Bad Batch" has been an interesting addition to the larger "Star Wars" franchise. The first season offered exciting clone action and a darker tone compared to "The Clone Wars," showing us the rise of the Empire from the point of view of the soldiers bred to fight it.
And yet, despite some poignant moments, one of the main issues of that first season is that "The Bad Batch" felt mostly like just a kid-friendlier version of "The Mandalorian." You had four touch warriors serving as father figures to a child, they go on side quests with said child and protect them since they are too young and unfamiliar with combat. Most of the season, then, is spent seeing these warriors fighting off countless perils while the child looks in wonderment.
That changes this season. "The Bad Batch" returns with a time skip, and in its premiere episode, we see...

Wasting no time, Star Wars: The Bad Batch‘s two-episode premiere (streaming now on Disney+) finds the titular mutant-clones evading angry crab monsters, pillaging Count Dooku’s abandoned palace, and (miraculously) managing to squeeze through the Empire far-reaching, ever-lengthening fingers.
The first episode, titled “The Spoils of War,” opens on a quiet tropical planet seemingly unbothered by Imperial interest. The tranquility proves temporary, as Wrecker, Hunter, and Echo (all voiced by The Clone Wars alum Dee Bradley Baker) burst out of a beachside grove with a swarm of riled-up crab aliens snapping at their heels. With help from other Bad...

Review: Before Disney+ brought Star Wars into live action with The Mandalorian and the various subsequent series and spin-offs, fans of the iconic franchise were deeply invested in the animated series The Clone Wars. Spoilers follow for "The Bad Batch" season 2 premiere - "Spoils of War" and "Ruins of War."
The boys of Clone Force 99 (Dee Bradley Baker), "The Bad Batch" return for their second season on Disney+ today.
For those hazy on the Bad Batch, they're a group of genetically modified clones who served as a special forces team during the Clone Wars. Order 66 didn't hit them like the rest of the clone troopers and they ended up back on Kamino, confused and forced to test their loyalty. Eventually, they escaped the clutches of the Empire and took Omega, a Jango clone unlike any other, with them.
Season 1 culminated in the orbital bombardment of their home planet of Kamino and further pushed them into the shadows. As season 2 opens, some time has passed since the destruction of Kamino that capped off the last episode of the previous season. The clones are still avoiding the Empire,...

To be a clone soldier is to have an unlucky station in life throughout the "Star Wars" franchise. Bred and conditioned for military servitude, the clone troopers (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker), known as Clone Force 99 aka the Bad Batch, don't really know a galaxy without war. As the Republic morphed into the Empire, the clone troopers confront a more precarious and expendable position in the galaxy as conscripted stormtroopers usurp their military roles. Even clones loyal to Emperor Palpatine don't get the best treatment. This slams in full force in season 2 of the "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" CGI cartoon, the follow-up to "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" animated series.
Being Awol clones with mutations and specialized abilities (unlike "reg" clones), the titular Bad Batch siblings face the growing tyranny of the Empire. After they survived the latter's orbital bombing of Tipoca City, squad leader Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, and...

"Star Wars" is a franchise ripe with all sorts of possibilities, where any and all kind of story can be told. But any time the franchise dives into animation, it feels like a match made in heaven. TV shows like Genndy Tartakovsky's "Clone Wars" or "Star Wars: Rebels" or "The Clone Wars" take us to places and settings we'd never seen before, giving us our first proper look at the war or dropping us into the universe during the time of Imperial oppression all while using the medium of animation to give us impossibly dazzling visuals.
"The Bad Batch" is no different. This spin-off of "The Clone Wars" takes place during the darkest period in the "Star Wars" timeline, immediately after Order 66 wiped out the Jedi and Palpatine declared himself Emperor. The show explores some poignant themes of identity, of what it means to see everything you fought for,...

The D23 Expo is officially and finally here, providing fans with another opportunity to sample the most exciting upcoming projects — even after the tidal wave of fun surprises and exciting footage that San Diego Comic-Con had to offer earlier this year. Still, this Disney-exclusive event has already given a late-summer jolt to the system with likely more treats yet to come, and /Film's own Ethan Anderton is on the ground for all of it.
With so much to keep track of, it'd be easy for even the most highly-anticipated properties to get swallowed up in the hype. "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" might very well be one of those kinds of shows. Centering on the formidable Clone Force 99 made up of various clone soldier castaways and misfits, the animated series wrapped up its debut season in August of 2021, enjoying generally positive reviews and serving as a neat expansion of franchise lore.

Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) made history as the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2022 Best Character Voice-Over ballot list below consists of a whopping 222 performances. Lucy Lawless’ legion of fans have watched her search for redemption as an ancient Greek warrior princess in Xena, deceive and seduce her way to power as Lucretia in Spartacus, witch her way through Salem as Countess Marburg, and hunt down Ash in Ash vs. the Evil Dead. But while she may be best known for her roles in science fiction and fantasy, she’s also excellent at bringing murderers to justice in My Life Is Murder as Alexa Crowe, a retired police officer who continues solving mysteries.
Despite Alexa’s former profession, the show shares more with Murder, She Wrote than police procedurals.
