Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is living on borrowed time and his sacking “inevitable”, according to Steve Wraith, spokesman for the Nufc Fans United Group.
Speaking to the Mirror, Wraith, who is also editor of the club’s No.9 fanzine, also claimed director of football Joe Kinnear would take over from the beleaguered boss.
The Magpies crashed to their third topflight loss in six games at Goodison Park on Monday night and a third-successive league defeat – against Cardiff on Saturday – could spell the end for Pardew.
Wraith claims the majority of his fellow fans feel as though such an eventuality would be unfair, because of the way owner Mike Ashley undermined the former Southampton manager over the summer.
“There is more support for Alan Pardew now than there was at the end of last season, when many wanted him out,” said Wraith, who believes Pardew knows he is...

Following the recent departures of both Paolo Di Canio and Nigel Clough at Sunderland and Derby County respectively, the new age that gives managers precious little time in any job has finally dawned on me. With Clough gone, there remain only 3 from 92 Football League managers that have been in their current job for over 4 years. This unstable, uncertain culture surrounding the modern game surely must change.
Focusing first on Di Canio, we are offered an example of how football has changed for the worse. With Sunderland languishing at the bottom of the nation’s top tier, Di Canio was forced out by a series of player complaints and personal attacks on him. Justified or not, the fact that the Italian was in charge of the club for a mere 13 matches shows something is wrong with today’s game. Di Canio had just 5 league matches at the beginning of his first...

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew offered his resignation in the wake of his side’s 3-2 defeat to Everton in the Premier League last night, according to reports.
The Magpies crashed to their third topflight loss in six games at Goodison Park on Monday night, after Romelu Lukaku scored either side of Ross Barkley’s strike to help sink the Toon.
And though Yohan Cabaye and Loic Remy scored in a late rally, the damage had already been done to the north East outfit in the first half.
Pardew is understood to have met with owner Mike Ashley after the game and offered to resign from his post, but was instead issued a vote of confidence and told his job is safe.
That comes despite the fact Newcastle are just two places above the relegation zone having conceded six goals in their last two Premier League games.

Everyone loves transfer deadline day – the money, the silliness, the head of Harry Redknapp poking out of a car window, there’s always something happening and its always entertaining. Yet over in North East, it’s very much been the tale of two cities – while Sunderland’s Paolo Di Canio continues to stuff his squad with a bus-load of foreigners while lambasting his current players, there’s been almost nothing happening at Newcastle United.
Yes, it’s a strange world, but it appears that for the moment, it’s all quiet on the Tyneside front. In fact, it’s the backroom staff that have made the biggest splash at St. James’ Park, with Joe Kinnear making a shock return as director of football and proceeding to generate bad press for the Mike Ashley regime. The reason why Arsenal’s potential deal for Newcastle’s French midfielder died has apparently been confirmed by former BBC Sport correspondent James Pearce.
Pearce left the BBC recently to concentrate on a freelance career, but he is still close to the game, and according to his source, the deal died when Mike Ashley allowed the Franch midfielder to listen in on a call between the two parties during negotiations for the player.
During that call, not only was Cabaye’s valuation confirmed as £25million – a lot more than the £10million that the Gunners reportedly bid for Cabaye – but even more importantly, the Arsenal side of the conversation rather disparagingly referred to the French national player as a reserve…
Having had his head turned by Arsenal’s interest – in the words of manager Alan Pardew at least, Cabaye was apparently put off the move when he heard that.

Arsenal have been told they must pay at least £20 million for Yohan Cabaye as their opening offer of £10 million was rejected and slammed as “derisory” last night, according to the Telegraph.
The timing of the Gunner’s bid for the 27-year-old, on the day of the Magpie’s opening Premier League game against Manchester City, provoked fury at St James’ Park after Cabaye was withdrawn from the squad that lost 4-0 at the Etihad.
And manager Alan Pardew has blasted Arsenal of showing “disrespect” to his club.
He said:
“We have prepared with the lad for three days and for him to have his head turned by this bid by Arsenal is just disrespectful in my view.
“Why it couldn’t have waited until tomorrow I don’t know. The result wouldn’t have been the same if he’d played in my view.”

Newcastle United’s interest in West Ham defender James Tomkins could be over after being quoted a £6 million asking price, according to the Chronicle.
Sources claim that fee is too high a price to pay on a player who struggled with shin problems last season and who was limited to just 24 Premier League appearances, last appearing in the middle of April.
Magpies’ owner Mike Ashley is reportedly keen to invest the majority of the club’s transfer funds into a new centre-forward this summer, though Tomkins’ name was at the top of a list of targets handed to new director of football Joe Kinnear before he departed for a planned family vacation to Italy.
Ashley has received criticism from supporters recently over the appointment of the former Wimbledon boss, who also took charge at St James’ Park between 2008-09.

Newcastle United look set to pull out of the race to sign Wigan Athletic’s Arouna Kone, according to the Chronicle.
Wigan had given the Magpies permission to speak with the 29-year-old, as we reported yesterday, but the North East club have now apparently cooled their interest.
The Ivorian international has a £5 million release clause built into his contract with the Latics, who were relegated from the Premier League in May, and it is understood his preferred destination is Everton when he calls time on his stay at the Dw Stadium.
Newcastle were interested at one stage, but a move for the star, who scored 13 goals last season, would be a complete u-turn in the club’s transfer policy.
Now, Wigan sources have suggested the Magpies have ended their pursuit of the player, who will now likely move to Everton.

Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Wigan Athletic striker Arouna Kone, according to Sky Sports.
Everton are understood to be in pole position for the Ivorian international, however, but the Magpies have also been granted permission to speak with the player.
The forward has a £5 million release clause built into his contract at the Dw Stadium and is hoping to activate that following the Latic’s relegation from the Premier League in May.
Kone has only been at Wigan for a year after arriving from Spanish outfit Levante last summer, and impressed under Roberto Martinez, scoring 11 league goals.
But Martinez, who is now in charge at Goodison Park, could scupper Newcastle’s pursuit of the player by signing him again – for Everton.

Newcastle United’s new director of football, Joe Kinnear, wants to have made his first signing by the end of the week, with a second bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being considered, according to The Journal.
Kinnear has meetings planned in Newcastle today and has reportedly told the club’s owner Mike Ashley that he wants to have delivered a first new signing by Friday, before departing for a planned family break.
The Magpies have already seen a £15 million bid for Aubameyang rejected, but Newcastle are prepared to go in with a fresh offer with French sources claiming the 24-year-old forward would welcome the opportunity to talk to the club.
St Etienne are holding out for as much as possible for the Gabon international, who permanently joined the Ligue 1 outfit from AC Milan in 2011 having spent a stint on loan at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
His club are hoping to raise around £17 million for the striker.

This week’s appointment of Joe Kinnear as Director of Football at Newcastle United has raised doubts over the future of star midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa, write the Independent.
The arrival of the 66-year old former Magpies manager and the resignation of managing director Derek Llambias has created a power struggle at St James’ Park and the 26-year old could become a casualty.
The French international had hoped to sit down and hold talks over a fresh contract this summer with just two years left on the deal he signed when he made his temporary move to Newcastle permanent in January 2011.
And despite enduring frequent injury problems over the last two years since joining on loan from Marseille, the midfielder has still managed to notch 11 goals for Newcastle from 56 starts, something of which has alerted rival clubs Liverpool and free-spending Monaco to his services.
And Kinnear could well let him...

Earlier this week, former Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear was appointed director of football at the club, a decision taken by unpopular owner Mike Ashley that created an instant storm at St James’ Park.
It was an appointment not helped by the fact Kinnear had earlier given a shambolic interview to talkSPORT in which he mispronounced the names of players and staff and also insulted the club’s fans, nor was the controversy lessened in any way by news that the 66-year old former Wimbledon manager would be Alan Pardew’s superior.
And the bad news just kept on coming for Newcastle fans as Kinnear later scrapped the Magpie’s long-standing pursuit of free agent Douglas, a player who was highly rated by Pardew and was on the verge of signing.

Former Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear has today been officially named as the club’s director of football, with current manager Alan Pardew set to report into him, according to the Mail Online.
The appointment would seem to undermine Pardew’s position at St. James’ Park, especially given the fact both he and chief scout Graham Carr will have to answer to him.
Kinnear, who managed the Magpies between 2008 and 2009, has been handed a great amount of power at the North East club and will answer only to owner Mike Ashley when it comes to footballing matters.
He will also have the same amount of say over transfer dealings as Pardew, and is expected to travel with the first team squad on match days. He will even base himself at the club’s training ground.

New Newcastle United director of football Joe Kinnear gave a bizarre interview to talkSPORT last night in which he appeared to insult the club’s fans before repeatedly mispronouncing names of players and staff.
The 66-year old managed the Magpies between 2008 and 2009 before stepping aside due to ailing health problems and was this week sensationally named director of football at the North East club, appearing to undermine manager Alan Pardew.
And the controversy deepened last night as the former Wimbledon man delivered a shambolic radio interview in which he referred to Yohan Cabaye as “Yohan Kebab” and Shola Ameobi as “Amamobi”.
Then, when asked on his views about the opinions of the club’s supporters in the wake of his astonishing re-appointment at St. James’ Park, he appeared to belittle their intelligence by stating:
“To all the fans who don’t agree with this decision – what do you want? What do they want?...

Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye would be keen on a move to Premier League champions Manchester United, the player has admitted.
Speaking to Canal+, the 27-year-old French international claimed he would welcome a move to Old Trafford, should any interest from the Red Devils come his way.
He said;
“Yes of course. I’ve liked this club for a long time, I like what they do,” he told Canal+. “The boss has left but they have appointed a very good successor and he did some good things with Everton.
“They are always well played among the big clubs. Yes for sure, it would be an interesting challenge.”
New Manchester United boss David Moyes is believed to be on the hunt for a new central midfielder following the retirement of veteran Paul Scholes and Cabaye’s reputation as one of the league’s best creative central midfielders could interest the former Everton manager.

Newcastle United have told Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala to improve their offer of £15 million if they want to sign Papiss Cisse, according to the Express.
According to Russian newspaper Izvestia, the Senegalese striker will be offered an improved, £50,000-per-week contract were he to move to the Russian Premier League outfit, with the Dagestan-based club prepared to offer £15.4m for the 27-year-old this summer.
However, that fee falls short of Newcastle’s valuation, who have now told the club to improve their offer before they even begin contemplating a sale.
Cisse was Newcastle’s joint-top goalscorer last season with 13 goals and the Magpies rate him at around £20 million.
Were Anzhi to match that fee, a move could matieralise, as owner Mike Ashley apparently seeks to cash in on the club’s star player much in the same way he did with Andy Carroll when he sanctioned his £35 million move to Liverpool in January 2011.

Alan Pardew has escaped being yet another managerial casualty within the Premier League this year. After clear the air talks with owner Mike Ashley over the last few days, Pardew has hopped on a plane for his Summer holidays, which he no doubt feels is more than needed!
Ater scooping two managerial awards last season Pardew and Newcastle have had what can only be described as an abysmal campaign this year. Although I am a fan of Pardew and never did want to see him leave, some fans did and in this day and age of manager sackings left, right and centre, Pardew should feel very thankful to still be in employment. Amazingly he is now the second longest serving manager in the league (although Sir. Alex Ferguson and David Moyes both left their respective clubs and weren’t sacked).

He will then of course know both Cabaye and Debuchy, a factor which could help draw the player to Tyneside. It does not look like it will be a smooth process for the North East club though with Spanish...

Football is a game of currency: not just in terms of the money that changes hands for players and for TV rights, but also of the effect it has on fans. Excitement, apprehension, that tingly feeling on the back of your neck and of course, the unmistakable feeling that your club’s new foreign number ten is going to make all the difference to your beloved team.
Both types of currency are deeply invested in that final idea most of all – impact of a player is inevitably always compared with their real cost to the club – their emotional impact on fans and the real impact on the pitch judged against the amount of pounds it cost to secure their services. Inevitably, with the global expansion of the game, and the access given to other leagues and their foreign stars, as well as the relative inexpense of buying from abroad, rather than at home,...

Newcastle were one of the busiest clubs in January signing the likes of French internationals Moussa Sissoko and Mathieu Debuchy, and with the club looking to push forward again in the summer, they could once more be one of the busier clubs. Alan Pardew has already spoken about the likelihood of bringing in new players this summer (according to Teamtalk) and the need to strengthen the underbelly of the club, which is more pronounced after the well publicised failures of last summer and a largely disappointing season so far this term.
With several areas of the side still looking a little thin, here is an update on ten transfer targets who could be heading in to St. James’ Park in the summer.

Is Brendan Rodgers about to continue the Anfield trend of plundering Newcastle’s best talents?
According to the Guardian, the Liverpool boss will consider a move for the Toon’s French attacking midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa in the summer as he looks to capitalise on what the paper call “the uncertainty surrounding the midfielder’s future at Newcastle” and the possibility of former Newcastle player Andy Carroll returning to St James’ Park.
Rodgers admires the France international, who has had some injury problems this season and is currently on the road to recovery from the latest set-back, and the Guardian suggest that though Ben Arfa didn’t push for a move in January, his current team’s resolve to keep hold of him will likely be tested in the summer. After what feels like an eternity of underwhelming transfer windows, Newcastle’s much needed activity in the market appears to be kick-starting, and not a day too soon. Having seen their side slump to defeat against teams they brushed aside a lot easier last season, and having suffered the embarrassment of Loic Remy infamously and very publically turning them down for bottom club Qpr and an inflated pay-package, the weekend saw Newcastle fans baying for blood at St. James Park.
The brunt of the criticism fell to Alan Pardew, whose substitutions baffled the fans (though he did subsequently explain them away as necessary solutions to injuries), but no small amount of venom was reserved for owner Mike Ashley, who has this season been branded a failure for the same transfer policy that saw his backroom team exhalted last season. The owner sits precariously on a fence, on one side derision and open hatred,...

Newcastle United are enduring their most tumultuous period since their return to the Premier League following relegation in 2009. They have lost their last six games in all competitions, have been eliminated from the Fa Cup in just the third-round and are currently 2 points from safety in the league.
Their 2-1 defeat by Reading at the weekend was a new low for the club and heaped further misery on Alan Pardew, who has been forced into letting star striker Demba Ba join Chelsea and has watched helplessly as Qpr snapped up his ear-marked replacement Loic Remy. To add to all that, club captain Fabricio Coloccini has told club officials he wants to leave St James’ Park and return to Argentina.

21 points halfway through the season and only 2 off the drop zone, nobody could have predicted Newcastle would be teetering on the brink of relegation when they were challenging for the Champions League this time last season. Another relegation would be humiliating for a club that in reality is far more than the “wee club in the North East” Sir Alex Ferguson described it as and one that this time they may not be so quick to bounce back from.
Mike Ashley’s decision to hand Alan Pardew a lengthy contract is now starting to look foolish as Newcastle’s downward spiral continues under his reign and the financial problems that the Magpies owner would have should he now decide to get rid of the man he was certain would bring success to the club. Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has warned owner Mike Ashley that he must sign two new players this month or face another relegation from the Premier League, according to The Sun.
The Magpies boss was said to be shocked when Newcastle’s “fantastic offer” for striker Loic Remy was knocked back before the Frenchman joined relegation-rivals Qpr this week, and Pardew suspects R’s manager Harry Redknapp paid over the odds for him.
He said:
“There was a little bit of shock over Remy. I was disappointed. We put a lot of work into it. We made a fantastic offer to the player — and he didn’t arrive.
“This club is on a strong financial footing but we’re not going to pay silly money to anybody.”

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has urged owner Mike Ashley to spend big on a replacement for Demba Ba, or risk another relegation from the Barclay’s Premier League, according to a report in The Telegraph.
The Magpies were relegated in 2009, and Pardew fears the club will suffer a similar fate unless serious re-investment is made in replacing top goal scorer Demba Ba, who left for Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.
The Blues’ triggered his release clause for just £7.5 million however, and Pardew is concerned the club will struggle to buy in quality from those proceeds.
There are serious concerns over where the goals are going to come from for Newcastle until they replace Ba. After the Senegalese striker, the Magpies’ top two goal scorers are Papiss Cisse and Shola Ameobi, who have only managed 9 goals between them.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew will turn to West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie to fill the immediate void left by Demba Ba, should he seal his “dream move” to Chelsea this month, according to a report in The Sun.
They claim that talks are ongoing between Chelsea and Ba’s representatives after initial talks reportedly broke down on Sunday night over the Senegalese forward’s wage demands. The striker, easily the Toon’s top scorer this season with 13 league goals (50% of the club’s whole return in the top flight this season), is expected to line-up for The Magpies tonight against Everton at St. James’ Park for what will be first appearance since talking to the European Champions about a move away.

After the huge high of last season, this season has been hugely disappointing for Newcastle United and their fans. After a relatively inactive Summer they now sit just three points above the relegation zone going in to the New Year. The lightweight squad has been decimated by injuries and many of the clubs top players from last year have simply not performed.
Even in the summer though, many fans were saying that the team desperately needed strengthening with the squad paper thin especially with a European campaign to come. Their fears have more than been proved right with many players such as Ryan Taylor, Yohan Cabaye and Steven Taylor all picking up long term injuries and putting the squad down to the bare bones. Many youth team players who could have gone out on loan to receive vital first team experience have been forced to stay as cover for the...

Newcastle United forward Demba Ba could yet stay at St James’ Park after speculation surfaced of inflated agent fees, according to the Mirror.
It was understood that the player had a £7.5m buy-out-clause in his contract, however crucially, his advisers are demanding between £3m and £5m to conduct any transfer, pushing the players market value to £12.5m.
That would make signing the Senegalese striker an unattractive option for his suitors, who were said to include Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea as well as French side Paris St Germain.
Any potential buyer would also have the player’s lofty wage demands to contend with – Ba is said to be demanding £85,000 a week, having turned down Newcastle’s improved offer of £70,000 a week.
All this means anyone hoping to sign Ba would be taking a huge gamble, considering the player has a long-term knee injury. When he left 1899 Hoffenheim in 2011, he...

Some comically bad news for Newcastle United fans on the eve of the club’s Premier League match against Manchester United at home, as according to the Daily Telegraph, the club are poised to sign a sponsorship deal with money lending firm Wonga that will cover both the shirt and stadium, which will reportedly be renamed.

Although Newcastle United aren’t afraid to dip into the transfer market for immediately essential first-teamers (Papiss Cisse and Vurnon Anita), Mike Ashley has implemented a very clear transfer strategy that concentrates first-and-foremost on youth. The scouting team (led by the revered Graham Carr) have been scouring Europe and beyond looking for exciting, young players who can be acquired for a low fee and, should it be in the Club’s interest, sold on later (for a profit). Newcastle’s new-found strength in youth has been demonstrated by the club taking to the new U-21 Development League like a duck to water with the side putting together some very impressive results against both Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur, although they lost 1-0 to Southampton, who are renowned for their youth set-up.

Newcastle United are expected to come back in with a second offer to sensationally take Andy Carroll back to St. James’ Park next season. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to sign Arsenal winger Theo Walcott, according to a report in The Sun.

Newcastle United can be considered without doubt the surprise package of last season’s Premier League campaign, finishing above Chelsea and Liverpool, and running Tottenham and Arsenal all the way for a spot in the Champions League next season. By anyone’s standards, let alone a club that three seasons earlier had experienced relegation and the loss of their talismanic (at the time) striker, Andy Carroll, the North East club exceeded all expectations and entertained supporters across the country in the 2011/12 season. But with that now in the past, Pardew must look forward not back. With expectations this season much higher than the last, and with the Toon Army back on the road again in Europe, the question on everyone’s lips is ‘How high can the Magpies finish next season?’.
Like all sides in the summer, Newcastle will be looking to strengthen in some areas to improve on last season’s fifth place finish.

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is set to activate Demba Ba’s £7 million transfer release clause, according to an exclusive story in The Mirror.
Rodgers has become frustrated with the price of strikers across Europe and believes the potential capture of Ba at a knockdown price is simply too good to pass up on. Ironically, Newcastle signed Ba as the first replacement for Andy Carroll who left Newcastle in January 2010 for a £35 million move to Anfield, and now Rodgers is interested in the prospect of the two forming a partnership.
Newcastle’s top scorer last season has a clause in his contract that says he is available to any club who offers £7 million for him before July 31st. Turkish clubs Fenerbache and Galatasaray are both believed to have already taken that option and Ba has spoken to both clubs, but has already turned down Galatasaray as they didn’t meet his wage demands.

Newcastle United’s 2011/12 season was one of hugely exceeded expectations, tactical nous and some incredibly well considered signings, and with this summer already bringing rumours and news of several new signings, what was a relatively thin squad last year should be bolstered by some new arrivals ahead of the home game against Tottenham in August.
But if Newcastle manager Alan Pardew wants to build on last year’s successes and make a concentrated effort to overcome the next step and qualifying for the Champions League, he will need to sort out some of the lesser players in the squad, and make way for more new faces. The days of bloated squads sitting on contracts and not offering anything to the first team are gone at St James Park, thanks to the frugal business model of owner Mike Ashley, and there will be more outgoing deals than those which have already seen Peter Lovenkrands,...

Newcastle United are to turn their attention to Psv Eindhoven striker Ola Toivonen as they struggle to meet Fc Twente’s valuation for 21-year-old Luuk De Jong.
Dutch based football website Voetbal International claims The Magpies are in talks with the the 25-year-old who scored 18 goals in 33 league appearances last season. He has been capped 26 times for Sweden and since joining Psv Eindhoven in 2009 has struck 66 times in 154 appearances. He stands at 6foot 2inches tall and has caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Sunderland.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew reportedly first watched Toivonen last August when they were previously in the market for the striker. They decided never to make a bid for the player but with Luuk De Jong’s price hitting a glass ceiling that Mike Ashley doesn’t want to break, Toivonen looks to be the alternative.

The Daily Mail reports that Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew will meet with Demba Ba this week in an attempt to convince his unsettled striker that he is a key part of the club’s future project.
The news comes after Turkish giants Galatasaray activated Ba’s release clause (somewhere in the region between £7 and £9 million) which granted them permission to talk to the striker about a move abroad, which took place last week. Newcastle United soon shot down last week’s reports in the Italian press of Ba’s talks with the club but The Daily Mail and other British newspapers suggest they did happen and also claim that Fenerbache may have also activated the release clause.
The Senegalese international scored 16 goals last season and became an instant hero on Tyneside for his performances in the first half of the season. Ba however went through a shaky spell when...

French international winger Hatem Ben Arfa, who came on as a late substitute against England in Euro 2012, could be set to exchange the north east for west London if the Daily Mail is to be believed.
Chelsea supremo Roman Abramovich is apparently willing to sign-off on an £18 million move for the skilled attacker, which would see the player able to link-up with Eden Hazard and Marko Marin in a new-look offense, potentially along with Porto striker Hulk.
The injury-prone 25 year-old has proved a hit of late at the stadium previously known as St. James’ Park, with his £5 million signing from Marseille now looking like another notable Newcastle bargain.
Chelsea may not get their man very easily however, as the Magpies under Mike Ashley have proven formidable when it comes to extracting exorbitant fees from rivals, as Andy Carroll’s move to Liverpool demonstrated. The England striker sealed a £35 million move...

While the action heats in Poland and Ukraine, many fans will be rushing to suit up before their country’s next game.
Nonetheless in the excitement of buying your jersey, possibly with your favourite player’s name on the back, there are many things to consider. Just imagine paying £50 – only to find out your jersey will arrive after the competition. Such a thing would ruin Euro 2012 for many.
Despair not! WhatCulture cares about the fans, and has decided to serve you some food for thought on the major online shops.

Founded by the owner of Newcastle United, Mike Ashley, Sports Direct is the UK’s leading sports retailer by revenue and operating profit. They offer all the kits from Euro 2012; however for some countries, like Denmark and the Czech Republic, they do not stock away strips. They also offer name printing for all of the England players and...

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has travelled to Amsterdam a few times to watch Ajax in action and fresh reports in the Dutch media today claim a midfield target has caught their eye.
It was believed Pardew had attended recent Newcastle games to watch central defenders Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, and young striking sensation Luuk De Jong, however it seems Vurnon Anita has also impressed.
The 23-year-old defensive midfielder is highly thought of at Ajax having come through at a young age, playing for the senior club at the age of just 16 back in 2006. He is 5’6″ and has played three times for Holland, just missing out on the Dutch national squad for this summer’s Euro 2012 championships after being named in the provisional 27 man shortlist.
Dutch media say that Newcastle’s Chief Scout Graham Carr has signalled out Anita should a huge offer come in for midfield dynamo Cheick...

Does anybody remember Tottenham? That little London team I did a piece about yesterday? I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t, as Newcastle United quite justly stole their thunder this year.
Final League Position: 5th
Well, well, well, who’d have imagined this happening? Newcastle, 2 years after their promotion season, found themselves at the business end of the campaign battling for Champions League football. No you haven’t entered a time warp from the mid- 90s, this is the years great success story. They’ve managed to out hype promoted teams Norwich and ‘Plays just like Barcelona’ Swansea and be one of the most talked about performers of the season through, whisper it, a seemingly brilliant infrastructure put in place by the owners.
It’s a rather remarkable turn of events that can see fans who were outraged by Chris Hughton’s unjust sacking last season now disappointed...

With Newcastle United currently sitting in fifth in the Premier League, equal on points with Tottenham above them, and two clear of Chelsea below, despite the generally held pre-season expectation that the team would struggle having shed the likes of Jose Enrique, Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton, people are beginning to turn more attention to Alan Pardew’s men in the North East. And why not? Newcastle have made a mockery of those expectations, making pundits and fans eat their words in turn, and finding success not only on the pitch, but also on the books with finances looking impressively healthy.
Success invariably courts envy, and while other clubs may look to acquiring Newcastle’s on-field talents as a solution to stealing some of that success, they would do better to replicate the model for growth that the backroom and management teams – including much-maligned owner Mike Ashley and openly hated...
