of Montreal have announced their new album, Lady on the Cusp, due out May 17th via Polyvinyl. The indie veterans have also unveiled a string of 2024 tour dates and dropped a new single, “Yung Hearts Bleed Free,” with an accompanying music video. See all of Montreal’s upcoming shows and watch the new music video below.
Frontperson and primary creative force Kevin Barnes has billed Lady on the Cusp as both a summation of the band’s previous work and a personal goodbye to Athens, Georgia. The artist had lived in the city since the mid-1990s, famously working with the Athens-based Elephant 6 Recording Company before recently relocating to Vermont. The songs of Lady on the Cusp, written and recorded in the months before the move, serve as the last of Barnes’ work as an Athenian.
Pre-orders for the album are ongoing. Check out the artwork and full tracklist below.

The No Budget Film Festival was established in 2010 to provide an environment for independent filmmaking in the purest sense. The festival’s fifth anniversary marks the very first "cARTel Selects," an out-of-competition program dedicated to the fest's Los Angeles community, with personal favorites from throughout the year that showcase what comes after No Budget. Filmmaker workshops will also be held to support and inform up-and-coming indie storytellers. The Opening Night Gala screening will be "The Past is a Grotesque Animal," a documentary portrait of Kevin Barnes, frontman of the indie rock band Of Montreal. The film, which ran for four days at the New Beverly earlier this year, is directed by Jason Miller. The full schedule (here) includes an array of American and international short films, along with plenty of indie-oriented workshops and talks. Festival...

Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired worldwide rights to Jason Miller's rock documentary "The Past is a Grotesque Animal," whose subject is Of Montreal frontman Kevin Barnes. Made possible by a Kickstarter campaign, the film was funded by the $100,000 pledged by fans of the Athens, Georgia indie pop band. The movie, still in post-production, "is a personal, accessible look at an artist - frontman Kevin Barnes – whose pursuit to make transcendent music at all costs drives him to value art over human relationships. As he struggles with all of those around him, family and bandmates alike, he’s forced to reconsider the future of the band, begging the question – is this really worth it? " The director Jason Miller said, “I’m not sure if they actually liked the whole film, or just the scene with Kevin Barnes' penis flapping around, but either way, I’m thrilled to release my first...
