- He was the announcer, narrator and Petri wine pitchman on Mutual Radio's "The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" (1945-1946). On the program, Dr. Watson would relate a Sherlock Holmes story to Bartell, almost always over a glass of Petri wine.
- He was the fifth actor to portray Archie Goodwin on NBC Radio's "The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe" (1951). He tied for the most episodes as Goodwin on the program.
- Continued in network radio with CBS through the 1960s as an announcer on short feature shows such as "Dear Abby", broadcast on CBS Radio affiliates coat-to-coast.
