- The actor Karl Baumgartner first finished a technology study but soon he became enthusiastic about the theater and he got acting lessons at the Kierschnerschen theater academy in the 1870s.
- After finishing his acting lessons he appeared at the Nationaltheater in Berli. It followed engagements in Aachen, Dresden, Vienna Klagenfurt, Innsbruck, Linz and Salzburg.
- He impersonated his greatest roles at the Burgtheater in Vienna where he was active for many years.
