If you’ve been keeping any eye on the BBFC website this news won’t come as that much of a surprise… However, Lionsgate UK have officially announced today the launch of the Vestron Collectors Series line of Blu-rays here in the UK! Yes, no longer will you have to fork over £30-40 to import the well-received Vestron Blus, instead you can get them right here in Blighty. The catch? It looks, at least from this announcement, that we won’t be getting All the Vestron titles – after all, there’s no Waxwork 2 included on the UK Blu.

Later this month, the mighty Kong returns to the big screen! To celebrate, we’re looking back at all the major primate appearances in film.
For as long as films were being made, humans have starred alongside primates. Unlike other animals, their human-like qualities can lend a sense of comedy or horror. Throughout the history of film, primates have been used to fulfill certain roles. In the early days, they were often a form of antagonist, carrying out dastardly deeds or causing mayhem. More common is the primate cast in a role of mischief, causing all sorts of comedic hijincks. While most primate roles were portrayed by live animals, it was not uncommon for men to dress up in ape suits for roles where the primates needed to carry out specific actions. Later, the advent of CGI has led to men mimicking primates in real time to create a motion-capture performance.

Home audiences will cheer for Disney’s Queen of Katwe, which has earned widespread critical acclaim. Based on the vibrant true story of a young girl (Madina Nalwanga) from the streets of Uganda whose world changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion. It is a remarkable story of perseverance against all odds that will leave viewers feeling humbled and inspired. According to director Mira Nair, “The triumph of the human spirit is not to weep for what we don’t have but to focus on what we do have and allow that to take us to a place we never imagined possible.” Disney’s heartwarming and triumphant tale arrives home on Digital HD on Jan.

You don’t have to visit a haunted house to get scared—sometimes you’ll find more horror in the local mall or late-night eatery, as is the case in the ’80s horror films Chopping Mall and Blood Diner, two movies that are at long last coming out on Blu-ray in the Us thanks to Lionsgate:

In honor of Halloween, I once again have a special essay-article up, and this time I can name the contributor. Randall William Cook rates special celebrity status around DVD Savant despite being a friend from way, way back. I hope he's writing a book about his career, because his Hollywood experiences range far afield, from UCLA film school, to acting and directing film and TV, to doing special make-ups, animation direction, front-rank stop motion direction, and second unit direction on big features. Heavily into digital work since the 1990s, Randy supervised character animation and sequence direction for the three Lord of the Rings movies, netting him an amazing three Oscars, three years straight. And he's still the same guy from college -- a new Harryhausen or Welles disc comes out, and he wants to know all about it. Oh, and Cook is a fine writer as well -- as I think this thoughtful piece shows.

Well, we’re past the Summer blockbusters and heading right into the serious, somber cinema season, that time when the studios dream of top ten lists and Oscar gold. What better way to make those award fantasies come true than to hop in the movie “way-back” time machine and witness a most historic birth. But we’re not looking back on the birth of a person, rather the birth of a movement, a concentrated effort to effect change for a minority. Almost a year ago, we saw the civil rights movement take root in the acclaimed Selma. And in a few weeks, we’ll see the story of how the women’s equality movement began in Suffragette. So, now the movies offer up a look at a true flash point in the struggle of the Lgbt community for justice, specifically the 1969 riot at the NYC nightspot called Stonewall. So, what...

There are monsters out there. Scary, big ones. And they’ll haunt our dreams and crawl on our bodies for eternity. Nothing will ever make us comfortable knowing they exist, even in fiction. Then, there are some that are just Goddamn ridiculous. Here are ten of such monsters.
The Fiend Without a Face (1958)
Though ultimately, they’re just crawling brains and spinal columns, the most interesting aspect of the fiends is their invisibility for the majority of the runtime as they slowly gain their terrifying form.
The Creeping Terror (1964)
A giant, moving rug. Due to the extremely low-budget, this largely-narrated alien invasion tale amounts to little more than a big, badly dilapidated wool rug laying on top of its victims.
Prophecy (1979)
John Frankenheimer’s nature-gone-wrong turns into more of a nature-film-gone-wrong and features a bizarre, giant fetus-like bear terrorizing a mountainside.
Murders in Rue Morgue (1932)

I have recently decided that BBC’s Miranda is one of the greatest shows I have ever seen. Between the flawed, memorable characters and the whacky slapstick/sitcom situations, every episode delivers an impressive dose of laughs. I mean, who doesn’t want to watch a show that combines situational comedy with cut aways, running jokes, asides to the audience, and a cast of colorful characters?
Miranda is all that and more. Whether she’s pulling up the pants of the belt-less youth or singing her nerves away in front of an inappropriate audience, Miranda Hart’s Miranda is a fantastic character to watch. Here are 10 good reasons why you should be watching Miranda too!
10. The Characters
What makes a show good, first off, is the cast of characters. And Miranda has a cast of characters, if you know what I’m saying. We’ve got Miranda, the lovable doofy...

We don't know about you guys but we can't get enough Kong, and consume it lovingly in all shapes and sizes no matter how good or bad! Who can't laugh at King Kong Lives' Queen Kong and her pendulous gorilla titties? Or the Japanese Kong that had eyebrows and like nineteen elbows in his arms! Or better yet who hasn't watched Peter Jackson's version of King Kong and thought to themselves at least once during its massive run time -- "This is what I go to the movies for!" Looks like we're gonna have another reason to head to theatres again soon!
Variety reports that Spirit Pictures have picked up the rights to the book "Kong: King of Skull Island," a prequel to the well-known tale of the big ape.
Penned by Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland, book focuses on the backstory of Skull Island and how the giant gorilla became king there.
