- Originally screen-tested for the part of Patty Williams on The Young and the Restless (1973). William J. Bell was however so impressed by Bregman's skills that he and then-writer Sally Sussman created the part of Lauren Fenmore for her. A part she now has played for three decades.
- She added an 'e' to her name professionally in the early 1980s after an astrologist suggested it would help her with her career. A month later, she landed the role of Lauren on The Young and the Restless (1973).
