Former head of ABC children’s television Deirdre Brennan has joined WildBrain, the Canadian children’s media firm previously known as Dhx Media.
Brennan has been named executive VP, content partnerships, after advising the firm’s senior management team on content and distribution strategy since last July.
In her new role she oversees the global distribution business as well as its suite of family-branded broadcast channels in Canada operated by WildBrain Television.
Based in Toronto, she will report to WildBrain president Josh Scherba.
WildBrain’s library consists of around 13,000 half-hours and is home to brands such as Peanuts, Teletubbies, Strawberry Shortcake, Caillou, Inspector Gadget and Degrassi.
She previously worked for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment as general manager of Universal Kids and at Corus Entertainment as VP of content.
Prior to the ABC she was director of content/general manager for BBC Worldwide Australia and director of programming at Nickelodeon Australia.

Screen Producers Australia has named the 12 members of the Screen Forever advisory board for this year’s event, including chair Bunya Productions CEO Sophia Zachariou.
Among the other members are Netflix’s newly appointed Australian head of public policy and government affairs, Nick O’Donnell, Film Victoria CEO Caroline Pitcher, Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Vieira and Screen Australia head of Indigenous Penny Smallacombe and head of documentary Bernadine Lim.
The board helps to set the strategic of the conference, and according to a statement, aids in the creation of “an engaging, inspirational and business-focused program that reflects the broad spectrum of modern Australian screen content in a time when the industry is in a state of flux.”

Exclusive: Good Deed Entertainment has picked up the North American distribution rights to Tom Donahue’s feature documentary This Changes Everything which spotlights decades of discrimination against women in Hollywood, behind and in front of the camera.
The doc features first-hand accounts by several of Hollywood’s leading voices, including Meryl Steep, Shonda Rhimes, Sandra Oh, Reese Witherspoon, Taraji P. Universal Kids has set the premiere date for “American Ninja Warrior Junior,” with Olympic gold medal gymnast Laurie Hernandez set to join the show as co-host, Variety has learned exclusively.
Hernandez joins previously announced hosts Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila (pictured below), with the “American Ninja Warrior” spinoff set to bow on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. on Universal Kids, NBCUniversal’s cable network for kids 2-12.
The series features real kids taking on the iconic course. Nearly 200 boy and girl Junior Ninjas from across the U.S. will face off on the same head-to-head courses in three age brackets: 9 & 10, 11 & 12, and 13 & 14 year olds. The courses will feature well-known Ninja Warrior obstacles, including Sonic Swing, Tic Toc, Spin Cycle, and the Warped Wall.
