Was nominated for Broadway's Tony Award five times: in 1963, three
time for "Stop the World - I Want to Get Off," shared with collaborator
Anthony Newley as Best Author (Musical), Best Composer and Lyricist and for
book music and lyrics as part of a Best Musical nomination; in 1965,
again with Newley, as Best Composer and Lyricist for "The Roar of the
Greasepaint - The Smell of the Crowd;" and 32 years later, in 1997, on
his own as Best Book (Musical) for "Jekyll and Hyde."
Most unfortunately, he never received a Tony Award.
