- It had previously (and erroneously) been stated that he was let go from M*A*S*H (1972) after the producers discovered there were no black surgeons in the Korean War. - Prior to acting career, was a running back in the National Football League. Played for the Green Bay Packers (1 game, 1959), Philadelphia Eagles (1960-1967), and Baltimore Colts (1968).
