Michael Burke's real life undercover actions in Sicily during W.W. II
were portrayed by 'Gary Gooper' in the movie, Cloak and Dagger (1946). Burke earned the Navy
Cross and Silver Star. He became the manager of the Ringling
Brothers-Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1953. In 1966, he was chosen to be
the president of the New York Yankees (baseball). Later, he became
president of Madison Square Gardens in charge of the New York Knicks
(basketball) and New York Rangers (hockey). He retired in 1981 and
moved to Dublin, Ireland. He wrote an autobiograpy in 1984 entitled
"Outrageous Good Fortune".
