Started as an amateur actor and director in Rio de Janeiro in 1959.
In 1961, he became a professional, when he entered the Youth Theater of Rio de Janeiro and acted in the Aurimar Rocha Company. He also acted for TV Tupi and TV Continental, in which he participated as a producer and mini-series author.
From 1962 to 1966, he was a redactor, commercial director and jingles composer for several advertising agencies, including DIPRO, Denison Advertising and McCann-Erickson, besides his work as a freelancer.
Composed several songs, including "Chuva" ("Rain"), in partnership with
Durval Ferreira. It was recorded by famous Bossa-Nova singers and performed by Sarah Vaughan, Milt Jackson, Baden Powell and Emilio
Santiago.
