- After taking a post-graduate course in computer science, Andrew Cartmel started working for a computer company in Cambridge. He left that job to become script editor for Doctor Who. After leaving the show in 1989, Cartmel worked for a year as script editor on "Casualty" before leaving the industry and working in publishing on several computer magazines. - [on Doctor Who (1963)] I was very angry about the social injustice in Britain under Thatcher (Margaret Thatcher) and I'm delighted that came into the show. Critics, media pundits and politicians certainly didn't pick up on what we were doing. If we had generated controversy and become a cause célèbre we would have got a few more viewers but, sadly, nobody really noticed or cared.
