By the end of the first film, while carrying on his apprenticeship as an eunuch in the Palace, the quick-witted and cunning undercover agent for the Heaven and Earth Society, Wai Siu Bo (Stephen Chow) soon earned the trust of the Emperor, after foiling a couple of schemes by rivals who tried to overthrow the Qing Dynasty. Furthermore, the forever lusty Princess Jian Ning (Chingmy Yau) is more than keen to share her chamber with Wai, the “Duke of Deer Cauldron” the highest position which he finally achieved apart from fame and fortunes.

Much like the Prom Night series, or in martial arts cinema the later additions to the Police Story franchise, the Tiger Cage films don’t feature ongoing characters or tell linked stories. The only real tie is that they share cast members and are all martial arts cop movies directed by Yuen Woo-Ping.
The Films
Tiger Cage is about an anti-drug team in the Hong Kong Police force in which there may be corruption, with potentially several of the task force members working with and supplying dealers. Simon Yam plays the head of the unit, while Jacky Cheung, Carol ‘DoDo’ Cheng, Bryan Leung and Donnie Yen are among the detectives he commands. The tone is largely quite serious, and that’s the film’s main downfall, because it’s not something that Yuen Woo-Ping does especially well. In particular, he’s prone to letting his cast overact. The Canada Cfti Media Group (Ccmg) and Movie Plus Canada have signed a long-term deal to finance and produce up to three studio-level features a year.
First to go will be a $25m 3D animated version of classic Chinese story The Monkey King alongside China’s Pearl River Film Group, with whom Movie Plus and Ccmg recently signed a deal.
Brothers and veteran animators Ralph (pictured at right) and Dick Zondag will direct and Ccmg president, filmmaker and actress Xiao Min Zhang (aka Demi Zhang, pictured in centre) will serve as executive producer with Movie Plus CEO Christopher Brough (pictured at left) serving as producer.
The production will take advantage of the Pearl River animation team’s knowledge, while the Chinese partners aim to benefit from Hollywood’s production expertise and global connections.
Zhang and Movie Plus Canada are also lining up a number of Chinese versions of films such as The Godfather and D-Day6.6.1944.

Yuen Biao is one of the greatest screen performers of all time. He exploded onto our screens when Sammo Hung cast him in the amazing movie Knockabout and he has never looked back since.
This list will be familiar with most fans around the world, but this list is also for people who are new to this genre and want to check out some great flicks. I have added a few movies, which are a bit low budget but does contain some nice action.
