Deputy‘s Bill Hollister is a California lawman who loves horses, hates hypocritical higher-ups and wants nothing more than to protect the good people of Los Angeles County. But when Bill suddenly finds himself named sheriff, thanks to an arcane rule in the county charter, he’d better strap himself to his saddle: The adjustment from boots-on-the-ground sergeant to big boss is a rough one, indeed.
At the start of Fox’s new drama, Bill (played by Stephen Dorff, True Detective), a member of the Sheriff’s Mounted Detail, stands before a review board, getting dressed down for giving a...

Natalia Cigliuti (This Is Us) is set for a key recurring role on the upcoming Fox series Deputy, starring Stephen Dorff, from Entertainment One and Fox Entertainment. Created by Will Beall and directed by David Ayer, Deputy is a cop drama that blends the spirit of a classic Western with a modern-day attitude and gritty authenticity. When the Los Angeles County Sheriff dies, an arcane rule forged back in the Wild West thrusts the most unlikely man into the job: a fifth-generation lawman (Dorff) who’s more comfortable taking down bad guys than navigating a sea of politics. He leads a skilled team of ambitious and complicated people who won’t rest until justice is served. Cigliuti plays Teresa, the wife of Deputy Cade Walker (Brian Van Holt). She’s a prestigious law school graduate who turned her back on offers from top law firms to become a public defender...

The original Joe Dirt became something of a cult classic on DVD, even moreso in our household where it gets watched at least every other month… For some reason that underdog tale of a man beaten down by life but refusing to take it, living everday to its potential really struck a chord. But the same can’t be said for the sequel, which is essentially a parody of It’s a Wonderful Life, making a mockery of the first film and the character, in a movie that feels like it was made more for the cast to have fun and work than for the audience to enjoy.

This Blu-ray set includes all 26 episodes of the outstanding animated series that premiered in November 2010 on The Hub TV network. Our initial review of the Renegades Season One, Volume One DVD set (which you can read here) pointed out a lot that we liked about this new take on G.I. Joe, and some things that we didn't like. Thankfully, having taken in a full season of the show, the pluses far outweigh the minuses.

I’m going to begin this review with a warning to the three people out there concerned with the entertainment value of the Dtv movie Kill Speed. I guess “spoiler alert!” is the more proper way to convey this information, so consider yourself alerted (and spoiled) if you choose to read on.
Any movie that begins with Tom Arnold (Rosanne, Meet the Stupids, Big Bully, etc.) dying in an exploding trailer can’t be all that bad. Kill Speed happens to be such a movie. It does, indeed, begin with Tom Arnold dying in an exploding trailer — and the movie isn’t all that bad.
The scene in question features Mr. Arnold (playing against type as an obese slob named Rhaynes) cooking up some crystal meth inside a shabby trailer in the desert.

Having been born in 1980, I consider myself to be a true product of 1980s entertainment, whether it came across in the medium of film, cartoons, comics or live-action TV. Since that golden age, there’ve been very few shows that have effectively modernized the classics from my childhood. Sure, Transformers graced the big screen, but it didn’t appeal to the youthful fondness I once held for the franchise. But in 2010, when G.I. Joe Renegades first launched, something about the series struck a chord within. After only watching just a few episodes of the show, time gave way, and it wasn’t until the Volume One DVD found it’s way into my hands that I was reminded about how much I love this series. Presented in a 2-disc DVD set from Shout! Factory, Volume One collects the first 13 episodes of the show’s 26 episode debut season.

Starting with the Sunday, June 12, episode of A&E's sophomore crime drama "The Glades," Florida Department of Law Enforcement homicide Detective Jim Longworth's (Matt Passmore) already complicated life gets even more tangled.
First, he had to leave his native Chicago -- after suffering an embarrassing injury -- because he was wrongly suspected of having an affair with his captain's wife.
During a break in his trailer on the show's set in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Passmore -- who left his native Australia to pursue an acting career -- tells Zap2it, "The one person he got shot in the ass for, was the one person he wasn't involved with.
"When I first had the meeting with [executive producer Clifton Campbell], I said, 'All right, so what's the story here? Oh, so he didn't sleep with the wife, yeah.' He says, 'No, no, I always thought that's a big indicator of how Jim is with people.

A trio of young cocky pilots make their fortune running crystal meth across the Mexican border into California in their high-speed 300mph private planes, a fortune which helps pay for a rockstar Hollywood lifestyle of high-rolling, girls and party after party. But their antics attract the attention of the FBI, who want to use the trio to bust the Mexican cartel that is supplying the crystal meth. Caught in between the cops and the crooks, the flyboys must run their craziest mission yet.
Just pause for a minute and re-read that plot outline. Now think about it for a moment… Yes, Kill Speed is Fast & Furious, only with planes instead of hot-rods. It’s almost as if writer/director Kim Bass had an idea for another...

Happy (belated) first ever Harvey Milk Day everyone! And didn’t it feel a little like gay Christmas this week, when on Tuesday, CNN reported that 8 out of 10 Americans support the repeal of the heinous-as-a-floral-caftan “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy? With the U.S. Congress looking to act soon, seemingly all lights are coming up green in terms of plucking this little thorn from our collective hides.
I suppose we’re done, then! [Dusts hands off] Let’s pack up shop. No more commentary on gay issues or participation necessary.
Sigh… If only it were just about chopping the head off that particular monster. But the problems facing us are far more multifarious than that. It turns out the monster has various heads and a whole mess of typing hands. And some are lurking within our community itself.

As Stephen Bochco’s Raising the Bar heads into its third season, you may be wondering just what will be different this time around. Allow me to briefly quote from my review of the first season to answer your question: “Raising the Bar does manage to briefly distinguish itself on the strength of dialogue and production values, but it can’t avoid the sinking feeling that you’ve seen this all before.” Season two is no different, moving the plot forward and maintaining the same solid production values, but the show is beginning to feel more labored than some, even as it generally remains better written than many.
Judicial crusader Jerry Kellerman (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) is back, with many familiar faces joining him in the second season. Having trotted out from under Roz Whitman’s (Gloria Reuben) wing, Kellerman is still struggling with an insatiability for justice within a system that...

Court will soon be adjourned for the Mark-Paul Gosselaar drama, Raising the Bar. TNT has decided to cancel the series after two seasons but, there may still be more to come.
From executive producer Steven Bochco, Raising the Bar revolves around a group of law school classmates who work on opposite sides of the courtroom. The drama's cast includes Gosselaar, Gloria Reuben, Currie Graham, Melissa Sagemiller, J. August Richards, Jonathan Scarfe, Teddy Sears, Jane Kaczmarek, Stacy Hall, Natalia Cigliuti, Paul Joyner, Wayne Lopez, Jon Polito, and Angel Oguendo.
Back on September 1, 2008, the series premiere attracted 7.7 million viewers. That set a record for TNT as the biggest audience for a new series launch on regular cable. Unfortunately, much of the audience didn't return for later episodes which averaged 5.5 million. Despite an early decline, TNT renewed the series for a second season.

Chicago – I’m a huge Stephen Bochco fan and like most of the cast of TNT’s “Raising the Bar,” returning tonight to start season two and recently released on DVD in a first season set. But I can’t handle the tone changes, two-dimensional characters, and complete lack of judicial realism on this show, one that has promise on paper but has never worked in episode form.

Raising the Bar is a somewhat predictable law show, but it manages to stay entertaining thanks to its cast. Michael Corrigan, a former CFO at MGM, has joined Afterburner Films as vice chairman.
Afterburner, which CEO David Riggs founded last year, has embarked on a four-picture slate, kicking off with the action thriller Fast Glass, the indie company's second film.
Glass, a tale of California surfers who get caught up in airborne drug smuggling, stars Andrew Keegan, Brandon Quinn, Nick Carter, Greg Grunberg and Natalia Cigliuti. Writer-director Kim Bass (Ballistic) is helming the project.
Other titles on Afterburner's slate, which it will be offering at this month's Cannes Film Market, are the horror thriller Scareport, the treasure-hunt movie 50 Large and the love story Through the Cracks.
Afterburner's first feature, Succubus: Hell-bent, written and directed by Bass and starring Lorenzo Lamas, David Keith, Gary Busey and Kelly Hu, was released domestically by Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
Before MGM, Corrigan was a senior partner in the Entertainment, Media and Communications practice at PriceWaterhouse.
"Mike's experience as a media and entertainment executive makes him the right person at the right time for our growing company," Riggs said.

Having held his own masterfully opposite Jean-Claude Van Damme in 1997's "Double Team", thespian rebounder Dennis Rodman has above-the-title billing all to himself in "Simon Sez", a martial arts action-comedy that's as bad as it wants to be.
While Rodman ponders his next career move, this endlessly irritating, flat-footed clunker will do his resume no favors. To be fair, the filmmakers have seen fit to surround him with so many shrill, over-the-top characters and performances that he comes across as practically demure by comparison.
Simon sez, "Go swiftly to video".
Rodman is the Simon in question, a tough-guy operative with a yellow motorcycle who gets roped into a purported kidnapping case by a bumbling private investigator Nick (Dane Cook), a classmate of Simon During's their Interpol days.
It turns out the hostage in question (Natalia Cigliuti) not only is unaware of having been kidnapped, but she has no desire to return to her wealthy American executive father, preferring to remain with her French boyfriend (Filip Nicolic).
But the boyfriend's father (Henri Courseaux) happens to be a bagman for a diabolical arms dealer (Jerome Pradon) eager to get his hands on a valuable piece of computer software that falls into Simon's hands. Thus, the shenanigans ensue.
Under the novice direction of writer-producer Kevin Elders (the "Iron Eagle" movies), the picture doesn't lack energy, and some of the fight sequences are well-choreographed.
On the other hand, the plot-deprived, shtick-heavy script, credited to former actors Andrew Miller and Andrew Lowery, keeps rearing its ugly head.
As for Rodman, despite there being enough metal hooked into his face to fill a tackle box, his performance remains surprisingly wooden given his colorful on- and off-court persona.
It's still preferable to the intended comic-relief turns of his improvising cast mates. As his hyper partner in crime-fighting, muggy comedian Cook makes for the most annoying sidekick since Jar Jar Binks. And John Pinette and Ricky Harris quickly overstay their welcome as undercover, high-tech monks who make like a third-rate Abbott and Costello.

While Rodman ponders his next career move, this endlessly irritating, flat-footed clunker will do his resume no favors. To be fair, the filmmakers have seen fit to surround him with so many shrill, over-the-top characters and performances that he comes across as practically demure by comparison.
