Clockwise from top: Heaven Through The Back Door, Gold Balls, Big Sonia and Dying In America True Productions and the Seattle International Film Festival have selected four finalists contending for their inaugural $50,000 (£32,500) Documentary Filmmakers Grant.
This year the finalists were chosen from the specific theme of ageing and the elderly.
The winner will be announced in December and subsequent granting cycles will have a different focus and theme.
Siff said the grant "marks the beginning of a three-year commitment to investment in the local filmmaking community, the filmmaking process, and the art of true storytelling through the lens".
True Productions' Dwayne Clark said: "Part of our mission with True Productions is to empower talented local filmmakers to bring their true stories to play out on the big screen. We're excited about launching this grant with an important theme this year near and dear to anyone who has a loved one...
