Exclusive: Writers Alisha Brophy and Scott Miles, who won this year’s Nicholl’s Fellowship for their screenplay United States of Fuckin’ Awesome, just signed on to adapt Lionsgate’s White Girl Problems. Exclusive: In a competitive situation, Tom Rothman’s TriStar has acquired the rights to Dirty Rush, the scathing comic novel that S&S division Gallery Books publishes this month. Brownstone Productions’ Elizabeth Banks & Max Handelman will produce what is being called Mean Girls in a sorority house. Banks & Handelman produced Pitch Perfect.
Dirty Rush was written by Taylor Bell, a pseudonym for Tanner Cohen and David Oliver Cohen, co-creators of the bestselling White Girl Problems. The book includes a foreward by real-life sorority girl Rebecca Martinson, the former Delta Gamma sister whose scathing email verbally assaulting her entire chapter went viral last year. That intensity and absurdity defines the spirit of the film that Rothman has in mind.
Banks & Handelman have completed Pitch Perfect 2, which Banks directed and which Universal has set for release May 15. Brownstone was recently staked to a two-year first-look production pact with Universal. Nicole Brown will oversee this for TriStar.

Exclusive: Lionsgate is closing two deals for book adaptations that will be produced by Pitch Perfect producers Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman through their Brownstone Productions banner. They’ve just closed a deal to acquire a pitch for hot scribe Erica Oyama to write a comedy based on Babe Walker’s bestseller White Girl Problems, a comic pseudo-memoir by a pampered gal out to show that even rich people deserve sympathy too. For example: She hates her horse and all the wealthy men she dates, and she has a shopping addiction that caused her once to spend $246,000 at Barneys in an afternoon. Authors Tanner Cohen, David Oliver Cohen and Lara Schoenhals wrote the book under the alias Babe Walker. Lionsgate is separately acquiring for Brownstone Heist Society, the Ally Carter bestseller about a woman who has been part of a larcenous family and tries to go straight. That ends when...

New York -- "Sex Positive," the true story of former S&M hustler turned AIDS activism pioneer, has been picked up by Here Films.
After premiering at the SXSW Film Festival, Daryl Wein's feature went on to win best documentary feature at La Outfest this year. Here nabbed domestic rights and will distribute the film theatrically through sister outfit Regent Releasing in March.
The film profiles Richard Berkowitz, one of the first people to promote safe sex practices shortly after the discovery of AIDS. Wein and David Oliver Cohen produced the Ro*Co Films project.
" 'Sex Positive' carries a vital message still today about an epidemic that's hitting American youth hard, as HIV rates have nearly doubled between 2001 and 2006," said Regent's Mark Reinhart, who announced the buy on World AIDS Day. He negotiated the deal with Ro*Co's Annie Roney.
